⁷ Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was,

²¹ the LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

¹² The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them."

¹⁸ When God finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.

¹⁵ Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hand, tablets which were written on both sides. They were written on one side and the other. ¹⁶ The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.

¹⁹ As Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, he became angry. He threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the base of the mountain.

¹ The LORD said to Moses, "Chisel two stone tablets like the first: and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

²⁸ And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water. And He wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. ²⁹ Now when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two stones in his hand, he was not conscious that his face was shining because of his talk with God. ³⁰ Aaron and all the Israelites looked at Moses and saw his face glowing. They were afraid to come near him. ³¹ And Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the community returned to him, and Moses spoke to them. ³² And afterward all the Israelites came near, and he commanded them all that the LORD had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. ³³ When Moses finished speaking with them he put a veil over his face, ³⁴ When Moses went into the LORD's presence to speak with him, he took off the veil until he came out. When he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, ³⁵ they would see that Moses' face was glowing. Moses would put the veil back on until he went in again to speak with the LORD.

⁸ And what other great nation has for it just rules and regulations just like this whole law that I am setting before you today?

¹³ And he declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he charged you to observe, and he wrote them on the two tablets of stone.

²² "These commands the LORD declared in a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from out of the fire and dark clouds, and nothing more was added. He inscribed them on two tablets of stones and gave them to me.

⁹ when I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant, which the Lord made with you, and I was in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I ate no bread and drank no water. ¹⁰ "Then the LORD gave me the two stone tablets inscribed by God's finger (Holy Spirit). On them were written all the words the LORD spoke to you from the fire on the mountain on the day of the assembly. ¹¹ "At the end of forty days and nights the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

¹ At that time the LORD said to me, “Cut two stone tablets like the first, and come up to me onto the mountain, and make an ark of wood. ² I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.” ³ So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two stone tablets like the first, and went up onto the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ Then the LORD inscribed on the tablets what he wrote before, that is, the Ten Commandments that the LORD declared to you on the mountain from the middle of the fire during the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.

¹³ "You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments,

⁷ The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul, The testimonies of the LORD are stedfast, Making wise the simple, ⁸ The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commands of the LORD are pure, giving light to the eyes.

⁹⁷ O How I love your law! It is my meditation all day long.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love your commandments more than gold, yes, more than pure gold. ¹²⁸ Therefore I consider all of your precepts to be right. I hate every false way.

¹⁷⁴ I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.

²⁹ And as He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became radiantly white. ³⁰ Moses and Elijah talked to him. ³¹ who appeared in glory and were speaking about his departure which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem.

¹⁵ All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.

¹⁰ So I discovered that the very commandment that was meant to bring life actually brought death.

¹² So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good. ¹³ Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful. ¹⁴ We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

²² For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law.

⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for every one who believes.

¹⁰ But when perfection comes, what is imperfect will pass away.

³ It is clear that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

⁶ who has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

⁹ For if the ministry of condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry of righteousness! ¹⁰ For that which was glorified had no glory, in comparison of this excelling glory. ¹¹ For if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which endures!

¹³ We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at the end of the radiance that was fading away. ¹⁴ But their minds were closed. For to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed.
