²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they among Abraham's descendants? So am I.

⁸ "The whole land of Canaan, where you are now a guest (alien) (foreigner) (stranger), I will give a long lasting possession to you and your descendants after you. ³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. ³ "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today.

¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, ¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. ¹⁷ As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were. ¹⁸ Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”

⁴ the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory and the covenants; theirs the giving of the Law, the temple worship, and the promises.

¹ I ask then, did God reject His people? Certainly not! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.
