⁵ Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

¹⁷ And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

²⁷ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built?

³ And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.

¹² And said unto them, All of you are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both all of you and your brethren, that all of you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.

⁷ And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God:

⁶ But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?

¹ Thus says the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that all of you build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

⁴⁶ Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. ⁴⁷ But Solomon built him an house. ⁴⁸ Nevertheless the most High dwells not in temples made with hands; as says the prophet, ⁴⁹ Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will all of you build me? says the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
