²³ Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

¹² But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knows not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The depth says, It is not in me: and the sea says, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be got for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

⁷² The law of your mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love your commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.

² So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;

⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

¹⁶ Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has no heart to it?

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

¹ Ho, every one that thirsts, come all of you to the waters, and he that has no money; come all of you, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man has found, he hides, and for joy thereof goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

⁴⁶ Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²³ Save that the Holy Spirit (o. pneuma) witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

²⁶ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

¹⁸ I counsel you to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word (o. logos) of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
