¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be all of you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹ Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, has God said, All of you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

¹³ And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent misled me, and I did eat.

³ Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

¹⁸ For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. ¹⁹ For your obedience has come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

²⁰ Brethren, be not children in understanding: nevertheless in malice be all of you children, but in understanding be men.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

²⁰ Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

³ But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent misled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

¹⁴ And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

¹⁵ See then that all of you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, ¹⁶ Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Wherefore be all of you not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁵ That all of you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom all of you shine as lights in the world;

⁹ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that all of you might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

¹⁰ All of you are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

²² Abstain from all appearance of evil.
