⁵⁵ And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

¹ Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

³ Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³ Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

⁶⁹ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, You also were with Jesus of Galilee. ⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what you say. ⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³ And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely you also are one of them; for your speech betrayed you. ⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word (o. rhema) of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny me three times. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁶⁶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there comes one of the maids of the high priest: ⁶⁷ And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And you also were with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁶⁸ But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what you say. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. ⁶⁹ And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. ⁷⁰ And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely you are one of them: for you are a Galilaean, and your speech agrees thereto. ⁷¹ But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom all of you speak. ⁷² And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word (o. rhema) that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, you shall deny me three times. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

¹⁶ But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spoke unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. ¹⁷ Then says the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Are not you also one of this man's disciples? He says, I am not. ¹⁸ And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

²⁵ And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Are not you also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. ²⁶ One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see you in the garden with him? ²⁷ Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

³³ Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

¹⁵ And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for all of you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Wherefore come out from among them, and be all of you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
