⁴ And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

²⁴ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. ²⁵ And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

⁸ Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

¹ And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. ² And God spoke unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. ⁵ Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.

²³ Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
