²⁴ Wherefore hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy?

²⁰ And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faith.

¹⁶ Then said Samuel, Wherefore then do you ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from you, and is become your enemy?

² I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; show me wherefore you contend with me.

⁹ He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: he gnashes upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpens his eyes upon me.

¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me unto him as one of his enemies.

² Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; ³ When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

²¹ You are become cruel to me: with your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy,

¹ Why stand you far off, O LORD? why hide you yourself in times of trouble?

¹ How long will you forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long will you hide your face from me?

²⁴ Wherefore hide you your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

⁶ I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? ⁸ Is his mercy clean gone for ever? does his promise fail for evermore? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.

¹⁴ LORD, why cast you off my soul? why hide you your face from me?

¹⁷ And I will wait upon the LORD, that hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

⁵ The LORD was as an enemy: he has swallowed up Israel, he has swallowed up all her palaces: he has destroyed his strong holds, and has increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹⁵ Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
