³² But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

⁵ You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty: ¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up: he wounds, and his hands make whole.

¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: ²⁰ So that his life detests bread, and his soul dainty food. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yea, his soul draws near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers. ²³ If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show unto man his uprightness: ²⁴ Then he is gracious unto him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom. ²⁵ His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth: ²⁶ He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness. ²⁷ He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; ²⁸ He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light. ²⁹ Lo, all these things works God oftentimes with man, ³⁰ To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

³¹ Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: ³² That which I see not teach you me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

¹² Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law; ¹³ That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be dug for the wicked.

¹⁸ The LORD has chastened me sore: but he has not given me over unto death.

¹¹ My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: ¹² For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.

⁵ Why should all of you be stricken any more? all of you will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

²⁸ But you shall say unto them, This is a nation that obeys not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receives correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

² She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things whatsoever the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

³⁰ For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

⁵ And all of you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him: ⁶ For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. ⁷ If all of you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? ⁸ But if all of you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are all of you bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, (o. pneuma) and live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

¹⁹ And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
