²⁶ For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor saints in Jerusalem.

²¹ He who despiseth the poor, sinneth: but he who compassionateth the poor is blessed.

³¹ He who oppresseth the poor, provoketh his maker; but he who honoureth him, compassionateth the distressed.

⁵ He who derideth a man in distress provoketh his maker; and he who rejoiceth at another's ruin shall not go unpunished: but he who sheweth compassion shall find mercy.

⁷ Again I will feed the flock of the slaughter for Chananites; and I will take me two staves, one I had called Beauty, and the other I called Portion; and I will feed the flock,

¹¹ And on that day it shall be broken; and the Chananites, the sheep that are kept for me, shall know for what cause there is a word of the Lord.

⁴⁰ And the king in reply will say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done this to one of these my brethren, even the least, you have done it to me.

¹¹ For you have the poor always with you; but me you have not always.

²⁰ Then lifting up his eyes on his disciples, he said, Happy ye who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours!

¹³ But when thou makest an entertainment, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind,

⁹ And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; it was a certain man, a Macedonian, standing and intreating him, and saying, Cross over to Macedonia and help us.

¹² Now when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose against Paul and brought him to the tribunal,

¹⁵ And I intreat you, brethren, [you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the service of the saints;]

¹ We now, brethren, make known to you, the bounty of God which hath been granted by the congregations of Macedonia, ² that in a great trial of affliction, the abundance of their joy, though their poverty was very great, abounded for the richness of their liberality ³ that to the utmost of their ability, I bear them witness, nay, beyond their ability, they were of themselves forward, ⁴ beseeching us with much intreaty to receive this bounty, and take a share with others in the office of distributing it to the saints, ⁵ not indeed as if we had expected this; but they gave themselves first to the Lord, then to us by the will of God, ⁶ so as to induce us to exhort Titus, as he had begun, to continue on and complete this bounty among you; ⁷ that, as you abound in every thing; in belief, and doctrine, and knowledge, and in all earnestness even in your love for us, you might abound also in this bounty. ⁸ I do not say this by way of command, but am, during the exertion of others, proving the genuineness of your love. ⁹ For you know the bounty of our Lord Jesus Christ, that rich as he was, he for your sakes became poor, that through his poverty you might become rich.

² For I know the forwardness of your minds, and boast of it on your behalf to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago. And this zeal of yours hath been a spur to the multitude.

¹² Because the distribution of this religious offering not only supplieth the wants of the saints, but also superaboundeth with many thanksgivings to God;

⁶ Let him who is taught the word make him who teacheth a partaker in all good things. ⁷ Be not deceived. God is not to be imposed on; for whatever a man soweth, that he shall reap. ⁸ Because he who soweth for his flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption; but he who soweth for the spirit shall from the spirit reap life everlasting; ⁹ therefore let us not be weary in well doing, for in due time we shall reap without being tired. ¹⁰ As we therefore have an opportunity let us do good to all, but more especially to them who are of the household of faith.

⁵ hearing of the faith which thou hast in the Lord Jesus, of thy love for all the saints,

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he hath promised to them who love him? ⁶ But you have treated the poor with disdain. Do not the rich domineer over you? Do they not drag you to tribunals?
