1 And when the fifth angel sounded, I saw a star fallen from heaven on the earth. And to it was given the key of the pit of the bottomless gulf, 2 and it opened the pit of the bottomless gulf; and a smoke ascended out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit.
3 And out of the smoke there came forth locusts on the earth; and to them a power was given, as the scorpions of the earth have power;
4 and a charge was given to them not to hurt the grass of the earth nor any thing green nor any tree, nothing but the men only who have not the seal of God on their foreheads;
5 and they were enjoined not to kill these, but to torture them five months. And their torture was like the torture of a scorpion when it stingeth a man.
6 And in those days the men will seek death and shall not find it; and they will earnestly desire to die and death will flee from them.
7 Now the shapes of these locusts were like horses prepared for battle; and they had on their heads as it were crowns of gold; and their faces were like the faces of men;
8 and they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions;
9 and they had breast plates like breast plates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with horses rushing to battle,
10 and they have tails like scorpions and there were stings in their tails; and their power was to hurt men five months;
11 and they have a king over them the angel of the bottomless gulf, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.
12 The first Woe is past and behold after these things there are two yet to come.
13 And the sixth angel sounded; and I heard a united voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God
14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Loose the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates:"
15 and the four angels who were ready prepared were loosed for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, that they might slay the third part of men.
16 And the number of the armies of the cavalry was two myriads of myriads: and I heard the number of them;
17 and thus I saw the horses in the vision and them who were mounted on them having breast plates of fire, hyacinth and brimstone; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issue fire and smoke and brimstone.
18 By these three the third part of the men was slain by the fire and by the smoke and by the brimstone which issue out of their mouths;
19 for their powers are in their mouth and in their tails, for their tails having heads are like serpents and with these they do mischief.
20 And when the rest of the men who were not slain by these chastisements neither reformed from the works of their hands so as not to worship the demons and the idols of gold and silver and brass and stone and wood which can neither see nor hear nor walk;
21 nor reformed from their murders nor from their magical incantations, nor from their fornication nor from their thefts,

11 When all by whom they were made are dried up; then let all the stupid among men be collected and stand together, and let them be confounded and ashamed together:
12 for the carpenter sharpened an axe, with a hatchet he modelled it; then he put it into a lathe and with his strong arm fashioned it. Though he be hungry and faint, he must not drink water.

14 He cut wood from the forest which the Lord planted; a pine tree, which the rain had nourished,
15 that it might be fuel for the use of man: and having taken some of it he warmed himself; and with other pieces they made a fire and baked cakes, and of the residue they made gods and worshipped them.
16 Did he not burn half of it in the fire, and, with the coals of that half, bake cakes; and having roasted meat with it did he not eat and was satisfied; and when warmed say, "Aha! I am warmed, I have enjoyed the fire?"
17 Yet of the residue he made a carve god, and worshippeth it, and prayeth to it, saying, "Deliver me, for thou art my God."

20 But when his heart became elated and his spirit emboldened to shew its arrogance, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom and his glory was taken from him;
21 and he was driven from among men; and his heart was disposed to associate with the beasts; and his dwelling was with the wild asses; and he was fed with grass like an ox; and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, till he was made to know that the Most High God ruleth over the kingdom of men and can give it to whom he will.
