⁴ He whose hands are clean and whose heart is pure. Who hath not devoted his soul to vanity; nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour.

⁵ So when the Lord God saw that the wickedness of the men on the earth was multiplied, and that every one was in his heart studiously and continually bent upon evils,

¹⁹ and that upon looking up to heaven, and seeing the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and all the host of heaven, thou mayst not be led astray, and worship them, and perform religious service to those things which the Lord thy God hath arranged in due order, for all the nations which are under heaven.

³⁰ For though I have washed myself with snow, and purified myself with clean hands:

⁹ Now the righteous should prevail over the wicked: and he who is faithful should hold on his way: and he who hath clean hands should take courage.

⁴ In whose sight an evil doer is contemned; but who honoureth them who fear the Lord: who sweareth to his neighbour; and doth not violate his engagements:

²⁰ The Lord will reward me according to my righteousness, and recompense me according to the cleanness of my hands.

⁹ Who can boast that he hath a clean heart? Or who can say with confidence that he is pure from sin?

¹⁵ When you stretch forth your hands, I will turn mine eyes from you: and though you multiply prayer, I will not hearken to you: for your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash and become clean: remove iniquities from your souls; in my presence, cease from your evil deeds;

¹⁵ He who is walking in righteousness, speaking of a straight way; who hateth iniquity and injustice; who shaketh his hands from bribes; who stoppeth his ears that he may not hear a bloody sentence; who shutteth his eyes against the appearance of injustice: ¹⁶ he shall dwell in a lofty cavern of a strong rock: bread shall be given him and his water shall not fail.

¹⁴ Jerusalem! wash thy heart from wickedness that thou mayst be saved. How long do ill grounded reasonings for thy troubles remain in thee?

² They say, "As the Lord liveth." Do they not on this very account swear to falsehoods?

⁹ and commit murder, and adultery and steal and swear to a falsehood, and burn incense to Baal; and when you have gone after strange gods which you did not know; ¹⁰ you, because of your calamities, have then come and stood before me, in the house which is called by my name, and said, "We have been restrained from committing these abominations;"

⁶ who eateth not upon the mountains, nor lifteth up his eyes to the desires of the house of Israel, and defileth not his neighbour's wife, nor approacheth a woman in a state of separation;

¹⁵ hath not eaten upon the mountains, nor fixed his eyes on the desires of the house of Israel; nor defiled his neighbour's wife,

³ Whereupon he said to me, This is the curse which is going forth over the face of the whole earth. Since every thief on the one hand is to be punished with death, and every false swearer on the other hand is to be punished; ⁴ therefore I will bring it out saith the Lord Almighty; and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who sweareth by my name to a falsehood; and it shall lodge in his house, and destroy it with the timber and the stones thereof.

⁵ And I will bring to judgment before you and be a swift witness against sorcerers, and against adulteresses, and against them who swear by my name to a falsehood, and against them who deprive the hireling of his wages, and them who oppress the widow, and them who buffet the fatherless, and them who turn aside the cause of the stranger, and them who do not fear me, saith the Lord Almighty.

⁸ Happy the pure in heart; for they shall see God.

¹⁵ and saying, Men, why do ye these things? We are only frail mortals like yourselves, proclaiming to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and all the things which are therein;

⁹ and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by belief.

¹ Having therefore, beloved, these promises, let us purify ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁰ fornicators, sodomites, enslavers of men, liars, perjured persons, and whatever else is contrary to the wholesome doctrine

⁸ I therefore give it in charge that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and surmise:

⁸ Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

¹ Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth were passed away and the sea is no more. ² And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. ³ And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God with men! and he will dwell with them; and they will be his people; and God himself will be with them their God. ⁴ And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. And there shall no more be death; nor shall grief, nor screaming, nor pain be any more; for the former things are gone.

²⁷ And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing which defileth or maketh an abomination or [uttereth] a lie; none but they who are enrolled in the Lamb's book of life.

¹⁴ Happy they who perform his commandments that they may have access to the tree of life and enter by the gates into the city: ¹⁵ but without are the dogs and the sorcerers and the prostitutes and the murderers and the idolaters and every one who loveth and practiseth falsehood.
