²⁰ A faithful man will be much praised; but the wicked shall not escape punishment.

¹⁴ And Abimelech answered the king and said, Who among all thy servants was like David, in high trust, and the king's son in law, and thy prime minister, and highly honoured in thy house?

²⁰ Now when he had gone a little way from him, Giezi the servant of Elisha said, Behold my master hath spared Naiman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hand what he brought. As the Lord liveth, I will run after him, and receive something from him. ²¹ So Giezi went after Naiman with all speed. And when Naiman saw him running after 22 him, he turned about from his chariot to meet him. And he said, Peace! ²² My master hath sent me saying, Behold there are just come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Give, I pray thee for them a talent of silver and two suits of apparel. ²³ To which he replied, Take two talents of silver. So he took two talents of silver, in two bags, and two suits of raiment and laid them on two of his servants and they carried them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to a dark place, he took them from the hands of his servants, and laid them up in the house. And when he had dismissed the men, ²⁵ he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, Whence comest thou, Giezi? To which he replied, Thy servant hath not gone any where. ²⁶ And Elisha said to him, My heart indeed did not go with thee, when the man turned about from his chariot to meet thee. Now thou hast received silver; and thou hast now received the apparel and olive yards and vine yards, and flocks and herds and men servants, and maid servants; ²⁷ but the leprosy of Naiman shall cleave to thee, and thy seed forever. So he went out from his presence, leprous like snow.

² I gave a charge to my brother Ananias, and to Ananias chief of Bira in Jerusalem; for he was a man of truth, and feared God above many;

⁶ Mine eyes have been on the faithful of the land; that they might dwell with me. He who walked in a perfect way, hath been employed in my service.

⁴ To the upright light sprang up in darkness. He is merciful, compassionate and just; ⁵ a beneficent man who commiserateth and lendeth. He will manage his affairs with judgment; ⁶ because he is never to be shaken; the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance: ⁷ at bad news he will not be terrified: his heart is prepared to trust in the Lord. ⁸ His heart is established, he could not be terrified; even when he beheld his enemies. ⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy; his righteousness shall endure forever. His horn shall be gloriously exalted:

⁶ The blessing of the Lord is on the head of the righteous; but untimely grief shall stop the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹ Wealth acquired by injustice, diminisheth; but he who gathereth for himself with piety, shall be satisfied. A righteous man sheweth mercy and lendeth.

⁵ He who derideth a man in distress provoketh his maker; and he who rejoiceth at another's ruin shall not go unpunished: but he who sheweth compassion shall find mercy.

⁶ A man is a great thing: and a merciful man a precious thing: but it is hard to find a faithful man.

²¹ A portion got at first with too much haste will not at the last be blessed.

⁴ If thou art poor, enter not into competition with one who is rich: but be restrained by thine own prudence

²² An envious man hasteth to be rich, and knoweth not that the bountiful shall have mastery over him.

⁴² Thereupon the Lord said, Who is indeed the faithful and prudent steward, whom his master shall have set over his family to dispense regularly the stated allowance of food?

¹ Then he said to his disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward. And this steward was accused of having wasted his substance.

¹⁰ He who is faithful in very little, is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in very little, is unjust also in much. ¹¹ If you then were not faithful with this unjust worldly prudence who will entrust to you the true? ¹² And if you were not faithful with that which is another's, will any one give you that to be your own?

² Now that, which is principally required in a steward, is, that he be found faithful. ³ To me indeed it is a matter of very small concern, to be tried by you or by human process; nay, I will not be my own judge. ⁴ For though I am not conscious to myself of an' thing amiss, yet even in that case I am not justified; but he who trieth me is the Lord. ⁵ So pass no judgment prematurely, until the Lord come, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and expose to view the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise for every one will be from God.

⁹ But they who determine to be rich, fall headlong into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful desires, which plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil; to gratify which, some have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁰ Be not terrified at what thou art about to suffer. Behold the devil will soon cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and ye will have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

¹³ "I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where the throne of satan is; yet thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied the belief of me, even in the days in which Antipas was my faithful witness, who was slain among you where satan dwelleth.
