⁶⁰ but found it not. Though many false witnesses came forward, they did not find it. At last two false witnesses came,

¹⁵ One witness shall not be sufficient to testify against a man for any iniquity, or any crime, or any sin, which he may commit. By the mouth of two witnesses, or by the mouth of three witnesses, every thing shall be established.

¹² Deliver me not up to the will of them who are afflicting me. Because false witnesses have risen up against me and injustice hath belied itself;

¹¹ False witnesses having risen up against me, laid to my charge things which I knew not;

⁴ therefore the ministers and the governors sought to find some pretext against Daniel. And when they found no pretext, lapse or crime with which to charge him, for he was faithful; ⁵ the ministers said, We shall not find any pretext against Daniel except in the ceremonies relating to his God.

⁵⁷ Then there arose some who falsely testified against him, saying, ⁵⁸ We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days build another not made with hands. ⁵⁹ But neither in this did their testimony agree.

⁸ sound discourse which cannot be condemned, that he who is of an opposite party may be ashamed, having nothing bad to say of you.

¹⁶ having a good conscience, that when they speak against you as evil doers, they who calumniate your good conversation in Christ may be put to shame.
