⁴² Watch therefore, because you know not at what season your lord cometh.

³⁶ But with respect to the day and the season, that none knoweth, not even the angels of the heavens; none but my father only.

⁴⁴ Be ye therefore ready prepared, because the son of man cometh at an hour you least expect.

³⁸ Whereupon he saith to them, My soul is overwhelmed with anguish 9 even to death. Stay here and watch with me. ³⁹ Then, advancing a little further, he fell prostrate on his face, and prayed, saying, O my father, if it be possible, let this cup be removed from me. Nevertheless not as I would, but as thou wiliest. ⁴⁰ Then he cometh to the disciples, and finding them asleep, he saith to Peter, So, could you not watch one hour with me? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that you may not come to a trial. The spirit indeed is willing; but the flesh is weak.

³³ Look, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. ³⁴ As when a man was going to travel, on leaving his family and assigning to his servants their charge, even to even' one his work, he commanded the porter to watch; ³⁵ watch ye therefore; for you do not know when the master of the family cometh; whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning, ³⁶ lest coming unexpectedly, he find you asleep. ³⁷ Now what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³⁵ Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning; ³⁶ and be like men who are waiting their master's return from a wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may instantly open for him. ³⁷ Happy those servants, whom the master, when he cometh, shall find watching. Verily I say to you, he will gird himself, and having placed them at table, will come and wait upon them. ³⁸ And whether he come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them in such a state, happy are those servants. ³⁹ Now this you know, that if the master of a family knew at what hour a thief would come, he would watch, and not suffer him to break into his house. ⁴⁰ Be ye therefore also prepared, because at the hour of which you are not aware, the Son of man cometh,

³⁶ Watch therefore, on every occasion, praying that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which will soon come to pass; and to stand before the son of man.

¹¹ Furthermore, as we know the season, that it is now high time for us to rouse from sleep, for our deliverance is nearer now than when we first believed:

¹³ Watch; stand firm in the faith; acquit yourselves like men; be strong;

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as others do; but let us watch and be sober.

⁷ Now the end of all things is at hand, therefore be sober, and watch unto prayer,

⁸ be sober, be watchful: because your adversary the devil is walking about, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour,

² Be watchful, and strengthen the remains which are likely to die. For I have not found thy works perfect in the sight of God. ³ Remember therefore how thou hast received, and heard, and keep fast hold, and reform. For if thou wilt not watch, I will come against thee, as a thief, so that thou shall not know at what hour I shall come against thee.

¹⁵ [Behold my coming is as a thief [cometh]: Happy he who watcheth and keepeth his garments that he may not walk naked and expose his shame.]
