²⁹ Now immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give her splendour; and the stars will fall from heaven, and the heavenly powers will be shaken. And then will appear the sign of the son of man in heaven.

¹⁰ For the stars of heaven; even Orion and the whole host of heaven, shall not give light; even that of the rising sun shall be darkened; and the moon shall not give her light.

²³ [c] When the bricks shall have mouldered away, and the wall shall have fallen; because the Lord will commence his reign from Sion and from Jerusalem, and be glorified in the presence of the elders;

⁴ and all the powers of the heavens shall waste away; and the heaven shall be rolled up like a scroll and all the stars shall fall like leaves from a vine and as leaves fall from a fig tree.

²³ [p] I beheld the earth and lo! a void! Then the heaven; and its lights were gone. ²⁴ I beheld the mountains; and they were trembling, and all the hills were in perturbation. ²⁵ I looked; and lo! there was not a man; and all the birds of the air were flown. ²⁶ I beheld; and lo! Karmel was a desert; and all the cities were burned with fire. At the presence of the Lord; and because of his fierce anger, they are utterly destroyed. ²⁷ [J] Thus saith the Lord, The whole land shall be a desert; but I will not make a complete end. ²⁸ For these things let the land mourn; and the heaven above be covered with darkness; for I have spoken and I will not change my mind, I have made an assault and will not withdraw from it.

⁷ And in the act of extinguishing thee I will cover heaven and darken the stars thereof: I will veil the sun with a cloud and the moon shall not give her light: ⁸ all that give light in the heaven shall be dark over thee; and I will overspread the earth with darkness, saith the Lord, Lord,

¹¹ I looked then because of the sound of the great words which that horn had spoken, until the beast was slain and destroyed and its body given to be burned with fire. ¹² And the government of the rest of the beasts was changed and a length of time given them until a time and a time.

¹⁰ At their presence the earth will be confounded and the heaven shaken, and the sun and the moon will be darkened, and the stars will withdraw their refulgence,

³⁰ And I will exhibit wonders in heaven and on the earth, blood and fire and smoky vapour. ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and illustrious day of the Lord.

¹⁵ The sun and the moon shall be obscured in darkness; and the stars shall withdraw their refulgence;

²⁰ Is not this day of the Lord darkness and not light; even thick darkness, in which there is not a ray of light?

⁹ And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, Lord, That the sun shall set at noon day, and the light on that day shall be darkened on the earth.

¹⁴ because the great day of the Lord is near; is near and hasting with great speed. The sound of the day of the Lord is bitter, and dreadful things are ordained: ¹⁵ that day will be a mighty day of wrath; a day of tribulation and distress: a day of wasting and desolation; a day of gloom and darkness; a day of clouds and thick darkness;

⁸ Now all these are the beginning of sorrows.

²¹ For there will then be great affliction, such as hath not happened from the beginning of the world till now: no, nor ever shall be.

²⁴ But in those days, after that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will withhold her splendour, ²⁵ and the stars of heaven will continue falling, and the powers which are in the heavens will be shaken.

²⁵ There will indeed be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth, anguish of desponding nations, while the sea is roaring and the billows thereof; ²⁶ and men are fainting with fear and apprehension of the things which are coming on the world. For the powers of heaven will be shaken,

¹⁹ and I will exhibit wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath; blood and fire and smoky vapour. ²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and illustrious day of the Lord.

¹⁰ Now the day of the Lord will come, as a thief at night, when the heavens with a crashing roar shall pass away, and the elements shall be dissolved by fire, and the earth, and all the works thereon, shall be burned up.

¹² And I looked when he opened the sixth seal. And behold there was a great earthquake. And the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair; and the moon was like blood; ¹³ and the stars of heaven fell on the earth as a fig tree sheddeth its unripe figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind; ¹⁴ and the heaven recoiled like a scroll rolled up; and every mountain and island were moved from their places, ¹⁵ and the kings of the earth and the nobles and the rich and the chief commanders and the under officers and every bondman and every freeman hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, ¹⁶ saying to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall upon us, and hide us from the face of him who is sitting on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, ¹⁷ for the great day of His wrath is come and who is able to stand?"

¹² And the fourth angel sounded; and the third part of the sun, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars were smitten, so that the third part of them was darkened and the day did not shine the third part of it and in like manner the night.
