¹⁷ Why did you not eat the sin offering in a holy place? for because it is most holy, he hath given this to you to eat, that you may take away the sin of the congregation, and make atonement for them before the Lord;

³⁸ It shall be upon the front of the mitre and upon Aaron's forehead; and Aaron shall bear away the sins of the holy things which the children of Israel may dedicate; of every gift of their holy things. And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead continually to make them acceptable before the Lord.

⁴³ and Aaron and his sons shall wear them when they come into the tabernacle of the testimony or when they come near to minister at the altar of the sanctuary, that they may not bring sin upon themselves and die. This shall be a perpetual statute for him and his seed after him.

²⁴ Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁵ Speak to Aaron and his sons, and say, This is the law of the Sin offering. Wherever they kill the whole burnt offering, there they shall kill the sin offerings before the Lord. They are most holy. ²⁶ The priest who carrieth it up shall eat it in a holy place. It shall be eaten in the court of the tabernacle of the testimony. ²⁷ Every one who toucheth the flesh of it shall be hallowed. And if any of the blood of it shall be sprinkled on any one's garment, he who is sprinkled therewith shall be washed in a holy place. ²⁸ And if it be boiled in an earthen vessel, the vessel shall be broken; but if it be boiled in a brasen vessel, they must scour it and rinse it with water. ²⁹ Every male among the priests shall eat thereof. It is most holy to the Lord. ³⁰ But none of the sin offerings, some of the blood of which hath been carried into the tabernacle of the testimony, to make an atonement in the sanctuary, shall be eaten. They must be burned with fire.

⁶ Every male among the priests shall eat there of. They shall eat it in a holy place. It is most holy. ⁷ As is the sin offering, so is the trespass offering. There is one law for both: The priest who shall make atonement with it shall have it.

²² And the goat shall bear away upon him their iniquities to an untrodden land. And having sent away the goat into the wilderness,

¹⁶ nor bring upon themselves the guilt of a trespass, when they eat their holy things, for I am the Lord who hallow them.

¹ whereupon the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying, Thou, and thy sons, and the house of thy father, shall bear the sins of the holy things; and thou, and thy sons, shall bear the sins of your priesthood;

⁶ We all like sheep had strayed; every man wandered in his way: and the Lord delivered him up for our sins: ⁷ and he, on account of his affliction, openeth not his mouth. He was led as a sheep to be slaughtered. And as a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. ⁸ In this humiliation his legal trial was taken away. Who will declare his manner of life. [J] Because his life is taken from the earth; for the transgressions of my people he is led to death; ⁹ therefore for his funeral I will give up the wicked, and the rich for his death. Because he committed no iniquity, nor practised guile with his mouth, ¹⁰ and the Lord determined to purify him from this stroke: when his soul shall be given up for a sin offering; of you he shall see a seed which shall prolong their days. ¹¹ More over it is the determination of the Lord to remove him from the trouble of his soul; to shew him light and fashion him for knowledge; to justify the Righteous One who is serving many well, when he shall bear away their sins;

⁴ And thou shalt lie on thy left side and lay on it the iniquities of the house of Israel. According to the number of the hundred and fifty days which thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquities. ⁵ Now I have given thee their iniquities to the number of a hundred and ninety days. So when thou hast taken the iniquities of the house of Israel and finished them, ⁶ thou shalt lie on thy right side and bear the iniquities of the house of Juda forty days. I have given thee a day for a year.

¹⁹ Now should you say, Why hath not the son borne the iniquity of his father? Because the son hath practised justice and mercy; hath kept all my statutes and done them, he shall live. ²⁰ But the soul which sinneth shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of his father; nor shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and upon the iniquitous shall be his iniquity.

²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming towards him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!

²¹ for he hath made him who knew no sin, a sin offering for us, that by him we may be made the righteousness of God;

²⁸ so also the Christ, being once offered up to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without a sin offering, for the salvation of them who wait for him.

²⁴ who himself offered up our sins in his own body on the cross, that we, being freed from those sins, might live for righteousness; "by whose stripes you have been healed."
