²¹ Martha therefore said to Jesus, Master, if thou hadst been here my brother would not have died;

¹⁸ Upon which she said to Elias, What hast thou to do with me, man of God? Art thou come to me to bring my sins into remembrance and cause my son to die?

¹⁹ Nay, they spoke against God and said, "Can God provide a table in a desert?

⁴¹ They actually turned back and tempted God, and provoked to wrath the holy One of Israel.

¹⁸ While he was thus speaking to them, behold a chief came and, making obeisance to him, said, My daughter is at the point of death, but come and lay thy hand on her and she will live.

⁶ So Jesus went with them. But when he was now at no great distance from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying, Sir, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof: ⁷ and for that reason I did not think myself worthy to come to thee. Say but a word, and my servant will be healed. ⁸ For even I, who am a man subject to authority, having soldiers under me, say to one, Go; and he goeth: and to another, Come; and he cometh: and to my slave, Do this; and he doeth it. ⁹ When Jesus heard this, he admired him; and turning to the multitude that followed him, he said, I say to you, I have not found such an instance of faith even in Israel. ¹⁰ And when they, who had been sent, returned to the house, they found the servant well who had been sick.

¹³ And when the Lord beheld her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not. ¹⁴ Then he advanced and touched the bier, [now the bearers had stopped] and he said, Young man, I say to thee, Arise. ¹⁵ Thereupon he who had been dead, sat up and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

⁴⁹ And while he was yet speaking, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, and saith to him, Thy daughter is dead. Trouble not the teacher. ⁵⁰ Upon hearing this, Jesus, addressed him, saying, Be not afraid. Only believe; and she will recover. ⁵¹ And when he entered the house, he permitted none to go .in, but Peter and James and John, and the father and the mother of the child. ⁵² Now all were weeping and lamenting her. But he said, Weep not. She is not dead; but asleep. ⁵³ Upon which they derided him, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ And when he had put them all out, and taken her by the hand, he called, saying, Maiden, arise. ⁵⁵ Whereupon her breath returned, and she arose immediately. And he ordered some food to be given her.

⁴⁷ This person, upon hearing that Jesus was come from Judea to Galilee, went to him and intreated him to go down and cure his son; for he was at the point of death. ⁴⁸ Jesus therefore said to him, Unless you see signs and wonders, can you not believe? ⁴⁹ The officer saith to him, Sir, Come down before my child die.

³² When Mary then was come to the place where Jesus was, upon seeing him she fell at his feet, saying to him, Lord, if thou hadst been here my brother would not have died.

³⁷ And some of them said, Could not this man who opened the eyes of the blind have prevented his death?
