³⁰ he maketh a hypocritick man king; because of the perverseness of a people.

²⁸ Therefore the king took counsel and went and made two calves of gold, and said to the people, Rest satisfied in respect to your going up to Jerusalem. Behold these are thy gods, Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he placed one of them in Baithel and the other he sent to Dan. ³⁰ And this became an occasion of sinning. For the people went before the one even to Dan, and they forsook the house of the Lord,

⁹ Now when they hearkened not, and Manasses led them astray to do evil in the sight of the Lord, more than those nations, which the Lord had destroyed from before the Israelites;

²¹ For he is the observer of men"s actions, and nothing that they do can escape his notice:

⁸ The wicked are walking about: thou, in thy sublimity, hast carefully observed the sons of men.

² When the righteous are applauded the people will rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, men will mourn. ³ When a man loveth wisdom his father is gladdened: but he who feedeth harlots spendeth his substance. ⁴ A righteous king raiseth a country; but a transgressor overthroweth it. ⁵ He who shall provide a net to catch his friend; spreadeth it for his own feet. ⁶ For a mighty transgressor there is a great snare; but the just shall have joy and gladness. ⁷ A righteous man is skilled in administering justice to the poor: but the wicked doth not take due cognisance: nor hath he a feeling heart for the poor. ⁸ Men regardless of law, set a city in a flame: but wise men avert wrath. ⁹ A wise man shall judge nations: but a fool when angry is derided and terrifieth not. ¹⁰ Men stained with blood hate one who is holy: but the upright will make strict inquest for his life. ¹¹ A fool sheweth all his wrath; but a wise man dispenseth it gradually. ¹² When a king hearkeneth to falsehood, all under him are transgressors.

¹¹ Ephraim tyrannised over his adversary, he trampled down judgment; because he set the example of going after vanities,

¹¹ I gave thee a king in mine indignation,

¹⁶ As thou hast kept the statutes of Zambri, and all the works of the house of Achab; and you have walked in their ways, that I might deliver thee up to desolation, and the inhabitants of this city to hissing; therefore you shall bear the reproaches of peoples.

⁴ who setteth himself against, and exalteth himself above, all that is called God, or an object of worship; so as to seat himself as God in the temple of God, pointing himself out that he is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that while I was yet with you I told you these things? ⁶ And you know what it is which now restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own time. ⁷ For the mystery of this iniquity is now in operation, but there is one who yet restraineth. When he is out of the way, ⁸ then will be revealed that lawless one, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of his mouth. With the brightness of his coming he will indeed put a stop to the operations ⁹ of him, whose coming is according to the energy of satan, with' all the power, and signs, and wonders of falsehood, ¹⁰ and with all the deceit of this unrighteousness among them who perish. Because they did not embrace the love of the truth that they might be saved; ¹¹ for this cause therefore God will send them the energy of delusion, that they may believe this falsehood;

³ And I saw one of its heads as if wounded to death; and this deadly wound of it was healed; and the whole earth followed this beast with admiration. ⁴ And they worshipped the dragon who had given the beast authority; and they worshipped the beast, saying, "Who is like this beast? Who is able to fight with it?"

¹¹ And I saw another wild beast coming up out of the earth; and it had two horns like a lamb; and it spake like a dragon; ¹² and it executeth all the authority of the first beast in its presence and causeth the earth and its inhabitants to worship the first beast whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ And it performeth great signs so as to cause fire to come down out of heaven on the earth, in the sight of men; ¹⁴ and it leadeth astray the dwellers on the earth by the signs which it had power to do in the presence of the beast; commanding the inhabitants of die earth to make an image of the beast which had the wound of a sword and lived.
