¹¹ Behold we call those sufferers happy. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord's termination" that the Lord is full of compassion and tender mercy.

⁶ And the Lord passed by before him and proclaimed, The Lord, the God compassionate and merciful, long suffering and abundant in goodness and truth,

¹⁸ "The Lord is long suffering, abundant in mercy and true, taking away iniquities, transgressions and sins; and, when he will not by purification clear the guilty, retributing the sins of fathers on children to the third and fourth generation,"

¹³ Thereupon David said to Gad, Very hard indeed to me are all the three. Let me however fall into the hands of the Lord, for his tender mercies are exceeding great. But let me not fall into the hands of men.

⁹ For by your turning to the Lord, your brethren and your children will find compassion in the sight of all those who have captivated them; and he will bring them back to this land. For the Lord our God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from us, if we return to him.

¹⁷ Though they refused to go in, and were unmindful of thy wonders which thou hadst done among them; though they hardened their neck, and set up a head to return to their bondage in Egypt, yet thou who art a God merciful and gracious, long suffering and of great kindness, didst not forsake them utterly.

³¹ yet in the multitude of thy tender mercies thou didst not give them up to utter destruction, nor quite forsake them. Seeing thou art mighty and merciful, and tenderly compassionate;

¹⁵ Though the Almighty, as he hath begun, may subdue me: yet I will speak and plead before him. ¹⁶ And this will contribute to my deliverance: for no deceit shall come before him.

¹⁰ For he already knoweth my way and hath tried me like gold.

¹⁰ And the Lord increased Job. upon his making supplication for his friends, the Lord forgave them their sins, and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. ¹¹ When all his brethren and his sisters heard what had befallen him, they came to him, together with all those who were formerly acquainted with him, and having eaten and drank at his house, they comforted him, and expressed their amazement at all that the Lord had brought upon him. And every one presented him a lamb, and a quarter of a drachm of gold bullion. ¹² And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than the former; so that his stock was fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, a thousand breeding asses. ¹³ And he had seven sons born to him, and three daughters, the eldest of whom he called Hemera, and the second Kasia, ¹⁴ and the third Amalthaiakeres. ¹⁵ And in all the land there were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ And Job lived after this affliction a hundred and seventy years. So that all the years which he lived were two hundred and forty. And Job saw his children and his children's children, to the fourth generation, ¹⁷ and died an old man and full of days. And it is written that he will rise again with them whom the Lord raiseth up. His first name was Jobab, and having married an Arabian woman, he had by her a son whose name was Ennon. Now he himself was a son of father Zare, one of the sons of Esau, and his mother"s name was Bosorra: so that he was the fifth in descent from Abraham. Now these were the kings who reigned in Edom, over which country he also bore rule. The first was Balak, the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dannaba. And after Balak, Jobab, who is called Job; and after him, Asom who was general from the region of Thaimanitis; and after him, Adad, son of Barad, who smote Madiam in the plain of Moab; and the name of his city was Gethaim. And the friends who came to Job were Eliphaz, of the sons of Esau, the king of the Thaimanites; Baldad, the sovereign of the Saucheans, and Sophar, the king of the Minaians.

⁶ Lord, remember thy compassion and thy tender mercies; for they are from everlasting. ⁷ Remember not the sins and follies of my youth; according to thy mercy remember me, Lord, for thy goodness sake.

³⁷ Preserve innocence and eye rectitude; for there is a remnant for the man of peace.

¹ For the conclusion. A Psalm by David, when Nathan the prophet came to him after he had gone to Bersabe. Have mercy upon me, God, according to thy great compassion: and according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out this my crime,

³⁸ But he being merciful forgave their sins, and would not utterly destroy them. Yea, many a time did he turn away his wrath, and would not suffer all his wrath to blaze forth;

⁵ for thou, Lord, art kind and gentle, and plenteous in mercy to all who invoke thee.

⁸ The Lord is gracious and merciful: long suffering and abundant in kindness.

⁸ Better is a patient man than one of a haughty spirit.

⁶ Seek ye the Lord; and when you find him call upon him. And when he draweth near to you; ⁷ let the wicked man forsake his ways, and the unrighteous man his counsels, and turn to the Lord and he shall find mercy; for he will abundantly pardon your sins.

⁷ [c] I recollected the loving kindness of the Lord; the mercies of the Lord in all those things which he retributeth for us. The Lord is a good judge to the house of Israel. He dealeth with us according to his tender mercy and according to the abundance of his saving goodness,

⁹ It was not an ambassador nor a messenger; but he himself saved them. Through his love and his indulgence to them, he himself redeemed them and took them up, and exalted them all the days of old.

²² On this account I will wait for the mercies of the Lord, because he hath not quite forsaken me; because his compassion is not exhausted. In the ensuing months, Lord, exercise compassion, since we are not quite consumed; since thy mercies are not exhausted.

⁹ with the Lord our God are tender mercies and forgivenesses. Because we apostatised

¹⁸ incline, my God, thine ear and hear. Open thine eyes and behold our desolation and that of thy city which is called by thy name. For we do not for our own righteousness present our piteous case before thee; but we cast ourselves upon thy tender mercies, Lord, which are many. ¹⁹ O Lord hear! O Lord, be appeased! Attend, Lord! Defer not, my God, for thine own sake! for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

¹³ Rend your hearts and not your garments, and turn to the Lord your God; for he is gracious and merciful, long suffering and full of compassion, and relenteth at evils.

² and he prayed to the Lord and said, Lord were not these my words, when I was yet in my own country? For which cause I attempted to flee to Tharsis. For I knew that thou art compassionate and merciful, long suffering and abundant in kindness and relentest at evils.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto thee, taking away iniquities, and passing by the transgressions of the remnant of his heritage? He hath not kept his anger in remembrance; because he delighteth in mercy;

¹⁰ Happy they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake; for the kingdom of the heavens is theirs. ¹¹ Happy are ye when men will revile and persecute you, and accuse you falsely of every evil thing on my account.

²² And you will be hated by all men on the account of my name. But he who persevereth to the end shall be saved.

⁵⁰ Indeed his mercy on them who fear him, extendeth to generations of generations.

³⁶ be ye therefore merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

⁴ Or dost thou contemn the riches of his gentleness and forbearance and long suffering, not considering that the gentleness of God is leading thee to a reformation?

⁶ for the praise of the glory of that favour of his with which he made us objects of favour in the Beloved;

⁴ then God, who is rich in mercy, on the account of the great love with which he loved us,

⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, whose house we are, if we stedfastly maintain this confidence, and the boast of this hope, firm to the end.

¹⁴ [for we are made associates of the Christ if we retain the beginning of this confidence firm to the end]

³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back for perdition; but of them who believe for the attainment of life.

¹² Happy the man, who endureth a trial! because having stood the test, he will Jas 1:receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them who love him.

⁶ in whom you exult with joy though you are now for a little while, if it be necessary, distressed with divers trials; ⁷ in order that your faith, which hath stood the test and is much more precious than gold which is of a perishable nature though tried by fire, may be found praise worthy, and honourable, and glorious, at the manifestation of Jesus Christ,

¹³ Wherefore having girded up the loins of your understanding, being perfectly sober, keep your hope fixed on the favour to be conferred on you at the manifestation of Jesus Christ;

⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from, temptation, and to reserve the wicked to the day of judgment, to be punished;
