²³ who justify the wicked for rewards; and deprive the just of his right.

⁶ Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of a poor man in the trial of his cause. ⁷ Thou shalt keep aloof from every thing unjust. An innocent and a righteous man thou shalt not slay; nor shalt thou justify a wicked man for the sake of bribes. ⁸ Bribes thou shalt not receive, for they blind the eyes of them who see, and pervert judgment. ⁹ You shall not afflict a stranger, for you know the heart of a stranger; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ They shall not wrest judgment, nor respect persons, nor shall they receive a gift. For gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

¹³ and there came in two wicked men and sat over against him and testified against him saying, Thou hast renounced God and the king. Upon which they led him out of the city, and stoned him with stones so that he died.

⁷ Now therefore let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Keep watch and do your duty; for with the Lord our God there is no injustice, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

²¹ Shall they hunt for the soul of the righteous? And shall they condemn innocent blood?

¹⁵ He who acquitteth the wicked and condemneth the just, is unclean and abominable in the sight of God.

²³ When one unrighteously receiveth gifts in his bosom; his ways will not be straight. But a wicked man perverteth the ways of justice.

²⁴ He who saith of the wicked, " He is not guilty, " shall be cursed by the tribes and hateful to the nations:

⁴ Princes are passionate, therefore let them not drink wine, ⁵ lest by drinking they forget wisdom, and become incapable of administering justice to the oppressed.

²³ The chiefs are rebellious; associates of thieves: they love gifts; they seek rewards: to orphans they do not administer justice; and to the cause of widows they do not attend.

³ they are preparing their hands for evil. The chief asketh and the judge hath spoken words of peace! He is entirely at his devotion;

³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth; from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could not in the least prevail, but that a tumult rather was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am clear from the blood of this innocent person. Look ye to it. ²⁵ Upon which all the people, answering, said, His blood be upon us and upon our children.

⁶ You have condemned you have murdered the just one. Is he not setting himself in array against you?
