¹² I THE I AM am he who comforteth thee. Recollect what thou wast when terrified at a mortal man, and at a son of man who are withered like grass;

⁵ shall these trifling years of theirs be as if in the morning, a green herb passed away? ⁶ Should it in the morning bloom and pass away? In the evening it would have fallen, withered and become dry.

⁷ When the wicked sprang up like grass; all the workers of iniquity had a glimpse that they should be destroyed forever.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are like grass; like a flower of the field, so he may bloom. ¹⁶ Because a blast of wind passed over it, it is gone. It shall no more know its place.

⁶ Having the Lord for my helper, I will not fear what man can do to me.

⁴ His breath goeth out and he shall return to his earth; on that day all his projects shall perish.

³ And now Sion, I will comfort thee. I have indeed comforted all her desolations, and I will make her waste places like a garden; and those west of her like the garden of the Lord. In her shall be found joy and gladness, thanksgiving and the sound of praise.

⁷ Hearken to me, ye who know judgment; ye people, in whose heart is my law. Fear not the reproach of men, nor be overcome by their contempt. ⁸ For they are like a garment which shall be worn out by time, and like woollens which shall be devoured by a moth; but my saving mercy shall endure forever, and my salvation to generations of generations.

¹⁵ Thus saith the Most High, who on earth inhabiteth eternity, who is Holy among holies; whose name is THE MOST HIGH; who at rest in the holies giveth patience to the humble, and life to them who are of a contrite heart; ¹⁶ I will not contend with you forever, nor will I be continually angry with you, for from me spirit is to proceed and I have made every breathing soul. ¹⁷ Because of sin I grieved him a little while and smote him and turned away my face from him; and he was grieved and went his ways sorrowing; ¹⁸ I have seen his ways and healed him, and comforted him, and given him true consolation;

¹³ As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you, and in Jerusalem you shall find consolation.

¹⁶ In reply to this, Sedrach, Misach, Abdenago said to the king Nabuchodonosar, We are at no loss to answer thee in respect to this matter. ¹⁷ For our God in heaven, whom we worship, is able to deliver us out of the furnace of fire which is heated, and he will deliver us, king, out of thy hands. ¹⁸ But even though he do not, be it known to thee, king, that we cannot serve thy gods, nor will we worship the image which thou hast set up.

²⁸ And be not afraid of them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

⁴ therefore I say to you, my friends; Be not afraid of them who kill the body, and after that can do no more: ⁵ but I will point out to you whom you should fear; Fear him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell. I repeat it to you, Fear him.

¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans. I am coming to you.

²⁶ But the Monitor the Holy Spirit which the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. ²⁷ Peace I leave with you. This peace of mine I give you. It is not as the world giveth that I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled nor dismayed.

³¹ Now then the congregations throughout all Judea and Galilee, and Samaria, were enjoying peace. Being built up and walking in the fear of the Lord, and the consolation of the holy spirit, they were multiplied.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, ⁴ who comforteth us in all our affliction, to the end that we may be able to comfort them who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves have been comforted by God. ⁵ Because in proportion as the sufferings of the Christ abound towards us, so by means of Christ our consolation also aboundeth;

⁵ For when we arrived in Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted every way. Without were fightings; within, fears. ⁶ But God who comforteth them who are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

¹⁰ and him who is rich, in his humiliation, because he shall pass away like a flower of the grass. ¹¹ For the sun riseth with its scorching heat, and withereth the blade, and the flower thereof failleth, and its beautiful appearance is gone. Just so will the rich man be blasted in his pursuits.
