⁷ Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do and we will be obedient.

³ So Moses came and told the people all the words of God and the rules of rectitude, and all the people with one voice answered and said, All the words which the Lord hath spoken we will perform and we will be obedient. ⁴ Then Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. And rising early next morning Moses built an altar at the foot of the mount with twelve stones for the twelve tribes of Israel;

¹¹ when all Israel assemble, to appear before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord shall chuse; you shall read this law before all Israel, in their hearing. ¹² Let the people be assembled, the men, and the women, and the children, and the proselyte who is in your cities, that they may hear, and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God; and let them hearken to do all the words of this law. ¹³ And let their children who have not known, hearken, and learn to fear the Lord thy God, all the days they live in the land to which you are going, to cross the Jordan, there to take possession of it.

²³ but only gave them this charge saying, "Hearken to my voice and I will be your God and you shall be my people; and walk in all my ways which I command you that it may be well with you." ²⁴ But they hearkened not to me nor inclined their ear; but walked in the devices of their own wicked heart, and went backward and not forward

¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Men, brethren, if you have any word of consolation to the people, deliver it.

¹⁶ And when this letter hath been read among you cause it to be read also in the congregation of the Laodiceans; and read ye that from Laodicea.

²⁷ I adjure you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brethren.

¹⁸ Whence even the first covenant was not ratified without blood; ¹⁹ for when every precept according to law was rehearsed by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of the calves and goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and the Book, and he sprinkled it on all the people ²⁰ saying, This is the blood of the covenant which God hath enjoined on you. ²¹ And in like manner he sprinkled the tabernacle and all the utensils for the holy service with blood. ²² And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood. Indeed without a shedding of blood there was no remission. ²³ There was therefore a necessity that the things which were symbols of those in heaven, should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves, with sacrifices better than these.
