¹⁸ [Now this man indeed had purchased! a field with the reward of his iniquity, and, falling on his face, had burst asunder, and all his bowels gushed out;

⁷ So the ambassadors of Moab, and the ambassadors of Madiam, went with the rewards of divination in their hands, and when they came to Balaam, and rehearsed to him the words of Balak,

¹⁷ for I will promote thee to great honour, and do for thee whatever thou sayest; therefore come, curse this people for me.

²¹ I saw, among the spoil, a piece of tissue, and two hundred didrachms of silver, and an ingot of gold, of about fifty didrachms, and I coveted them, and took them, and behold they are hid in my tent, and the silver is hid under them. ²² Then Joshua sent messengers, who ran to the tent, in the camp, and the things were hid in his tent, and the silver under them. ²³ So they took them out of the tent and brought them to Joshua, and the elders of Israel who laid them before the Lord. ²⁴ Then Joshua took Achar, son of Zara, and led him up to the valley of Achor, with his sons, and his daughters, and his cattle, and his asses, and all his flocks, and his tent, and all his goods, and all the people accompanied him. And when he had led them up to Emek-Achor, ²⁵ Joshua said to Achar, Why hast thou destroyed us? The Lord destroy thee, as at this day! Then all Israel stoned him with stones. ²⁶ And when they had raised over him a great heap of stones, the Lord ceased from the fierceness of his anger. For this cause he called that place Emek-Achor, which is its name at this day.

²⁰ Now when he had gone a little way from him, Giezi the servant of Elisha said, Behold my master hath spared Naiman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hand what he brought. As the Lord liveth, I will run after him, and receive something from him. ²¹ So Giezi went after Naiman with all speed. And when Naiman saw him running after 22 him, he turned about from his chariot to meet him. And he said, Peace! ²² My master hath sent me saying, Behold there are just come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets. Give, I pray thee for them a talent of silver and two suits of apparel. ²³ To which he replied, Take two talents of silver. So he took two talents of silver, in two bags, and two suits of raiment and laid them on two of his servants and they carried them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to a dark place, he took them from the hands of his servants, and laid them up in the house. And when he had dismissed the men, ²⁵ he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, Whence comest thou, Giezi? To which he replied, Thy servant hath not gone any where. ²⁶ And Elisha said to him, My heart indeed did not go with thee, when the man turned about from his chariot to meet thee. Now thou hast received silver; and thou hast now received the apparel and olive yards and vine yards, and flocks and herds and men servants, and maid servants; ²⁷ but the leprosy of Naiman shall cleave to thee, and thy seed forever. So he went out from his presence, leprous like snow.

¹² If wickedness be sweet in his mouth, he will hide it under his tongue. ¹³ He will not be sparing of it, nor forsake it, but will gather it together in his mouth; therefore let him not be able to help himself. ¹⁴ The poison of an asp is in his belly. ¹⁵ Riches collected unrighteously shall be vomited up. Out of his house let an angel drag him.

¹⁵ Let death come upon them; Let them go down alive to the mansion of the dead: because there was wickedness in their dwellings; in the midst of them.

²³ But thou, O God, wilt drag them down to the pit of destruction. Bloody and deceitful men shall not live half their days. But as for me I will trust in thee, Lord.

¹⁵ and to one gave five talents and to another two, and to another one; to every one according to his respective ability, and straightway set out on his journey.

¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, ¹⁵ and said, What will you give me, and I will deliver him up to you. And they weighed to him thirty shekels of silver:

³ Then Judas, who had delivered him up, finding that he was condemned, repented and carried back the thirty shekels of silver to the chief priests and the elders, ⁴ saying, I have sinned in having betrayed innocent blood To which they replied, What is that to us? Look thou to that. ⁵ Thereupon he threw down the money in the temple, and withdrew, and went and strangled himself. ⁶ And the chief priests, taking the money, said; It is not lawful to put it into the holy treasury, seeing it is the price of blood. ⁷ So, having consulted together, they bought with it the pottor's field for the burial of strangers. ⁸ Therefore that field is ever since called the field of blood. ⁹ Then was fulfilled that, which was spoken by the prophet Jeremias, saying, "So I took the thirty pieces of silver, as the Lord commanded me. These being the price of him who was valued, whom some of the Israelites valued; ¹⁰ these they gave for the potter's field."

¹⁵ having forsaken the right road they have gone quite astray, following the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity, ¹⁶ and was convicted of his transgression. [A dumb beast, speaking with a human voice, restrained the madness of the prophet.]
