¹⁶ All scripture, given by divine inspiration, is indeed profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for reformation, for instruction in righteousness,

³⁶ From heaven he caused his voice to be heard to instruct thee; and on earth he shewed thee his great fire. And thou hast heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

² The Spirit of the Lord hath spoken by me, And his word was upon my tongue.

²⁰ but gavest thy good spirit to instruct them; and not withholding thy manna from their mouth, thou gavest them water when they were athirst.

⁷ The law of the Lord is perfect, it restoreth souls: The testimony of the Lord is faithful, it maketh infants wise. ⁸ The statutes of the Lord are right, they rejoice the heart. The commandment of the Lord is clear, it enlighteneth the eyes. ⁹ The fear of the Lord is pure, it endureth forever. The judgments of the Lord are true, they are justified for being so. ¹⁰ They are more to be desired than gold, or many precious stones; and sweeter than honey or the honey comb. ¹¹ These indeed thy servant keepeth; for keeping them there is a great reward.

⁹ BETH. By what can a youth make his way prosperous? By keeping thy words.

¹¹ I have hid thine oracles in my heart, that I may not sin against thee.

⁹⁷ MEM. O! how I have loved thy law, Lord! It is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ Thou hast given me a knowledge of thy law above mine enemies; because it is mine forever. ⁹⁹ I had more understanding than all my teachers: because thy testimonies are my study. ¹⁰⁰ I understood more than elders: because I diligently sought thy commandments. ¹⁰¹ From every evil way I restrained my feet; that I might keep thy words. ¹⁰² I have not turned aside from thy judgments: because thou didst instruct me. ¹⁰³ How sweet are thine oracles to my taste! They are sweeter than honey to my mouth. ¹⁰⁴ From thy precepts I got understanding: Therefore I hated every wicked way.

¹³⁰ The manifestation of thy words will enlighten, and make the simple wise.

²³ For the command of a law is a lamp and light; and reproof and instruction is the way of life,

¹⁰ The correction of the innocent is remarked by them who pass by; but they who hate reproofs die dishonourably.

⁷ "The house of Israel hath provoked to wrath the spirit of the Lord. Are not these his purposes? Are not his words good with him? Have these walked in a straight course?"

⁵² Then he said to them, Every Scribe then who is instructed for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a family who bringeth out of his treasury things new and old.

⁴² Jesus saith to them, Have you never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders rejected was the very one for the head of the corner. This [salvation] was from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes."

³¹ But in respect to the revival of the dead. Have you not read what was spoken to you: by God, saying, ³² "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaak, and the God of Jacob," God is not the God of the dead; but of the living.

⁴³ He saith to them, How then doth David by the spirit call him Lord; saying,

⁵⁴ How then would the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

⁵⁶ But all this is done that the writings of the prophets may be confirmed. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.

²⁴ In reply to which, Jesus said to them, Are you not led into error because of your not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God?

³⁶ For David himself, by the Holy Spirit, said, "The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

²⁰ For whosoever doeth evil hateth the light, and doth not come to the light, that his deeds may not be detected.

³⁵ If it stileth them gods to whom the word of God was addressed, [now the scripture cannot be set aside]

¹⁶ said, Men, brethren, It was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit predicted, by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to them who laid hold on Jesus;

²⁵ This man being well versed in the scriptures, had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and expounded accurately the passages concerning the Lord, being acquainted only with the baptism of John.

²⁰ how I have never shrunk from those things which are advantageous; from announcing to you and teaching you publicly and privately,

²⁷ For I have not shrunk from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.

²⁵ And being at variance among themselves they broke up, upon Paul's saying one word, that the holy spirit had spoken well to our fathers by the prophet Esaias,

²⁰ an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of babes, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the law.

² Much every way. First indeed that they were intrusted with the oracles of God.

²³ Now it was not written merely for his sake, that it was reckoned to him,

⁴ For whatever was written heretofore, was written for our instruction, that we by patience and the consolation of the scripture may have hope.

⁷ Now, this manifestation of the spirit is given to every one for that which is profitable.

⁸ The scripture indeed, foreseeing that God would justify the nations for belief, predicted to Abraham the glad tidings [in these words] "By thee all the nations shall be blessed."

¹¹ and he hath given some to be apostles, and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors, and teachers, ¹² for the fitting up of the saints; for the work of distribution; for the building up of the body of the Christ, ¹³ until we all come up to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the son of God; to perfect manhood to a measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ; ¹⁴ that we may no longer be infants, tossed like waves, and whirled about by every wind of doctrine, by the cheating sleight of men, by a skill in the art of deceiving: ¹⁵ but that maintaining truth with love, we may grow up in all respects for him, who is the head, the Christ; ¹⁶ from whom the whole body being fitly framed together and cemented, provision is made by means of the supply of every joint, according to the proportionate operative power of every part, for an increase of the body; for building itself up in love.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them: ¹² for as to the things done by them in secret, it is shameful even to mention them. ¹³ But all these reprehensible things are exposed to view by the light. For it is light which exposeth every thing to view;

²⁵ with meekness instructing opposers: perhaps God may grant them a change of mind so as to acknowledge the truth,

² proclaim the word; be intent thereon, in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

⁷ Wherefore as the Holy Spirit saith, "Today since you have heard his voice,

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrateth even to the separation of animal life and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is capable of discerning the desires and thoughts of the heart.

¹ Now, faith is a confident expectation of things hoped for; a convincement of the mind with respect to the reality of things not seen.

¹⁹ Therefore we have a more complete confirmation of the prophetic word, to which you do well in giving attention, as to a lamp shining in a dark place until the day dawn, and the bringer of light rise in your hearts; ²⁰ knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture explaineth itself, ²¹ for prophecy was not uttered in former days at the will of man; but the holy men of God spoke by an impulse of the holy spirit.
