⁵ He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that there was not after him one like him among the kings of Juda, nor among those who were before him.

¹⁰ Let not thy God on whom thou reliest lead thee astray, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of the Assyrians.

¹⁵ said, Lord the God of Israel, who art enthroned on the cherubim, Thou alone art God in all the kingdoms of the earth. Thou hast made the heaven and the earth. ¹⁶ Incline, Lord, thine ear and hear! Open, Lord, thine eyes and see and hear the words of Sennacherim, which he hath sent to reproach the living God. ¹⁷ Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste these nations and committed to the flames their gods. ¹⁸ Because they are not gods, but the works of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they destroyed them. ¹⁹ But now, Lord our God, save us out of his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth will know that thou the Lord alone art God.

²⁵ Like him there was no king before him who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, according to all the law of Moses; nor did there arise after him any one like him.

¹¹ and Asa cried to the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to save with many or with few. Strengthen us, O Lord our God; for on thee is our reliance; and in thy name we are come against this great multitude. Lord our God, let not man prevail against thee.

⁷ At that time Anani the prophet, came to Asa king of Juda and said to him, Seeing thou hast put thy trust in the king of Syria, and hast not relied on the Lord thy God, therefore the army of the king of Syria hath escaped out of thy hand. ⁸ Were not the Ethiopeans and the Lybians to be dreaded for their huge army? For their prowess, for their horsemen, for their immense multitude? Yet because thou didst rely on the Lord, he delivered them into thy hand. ⁹ For the eyes of the Lord look throughout the whole earth, to strengthen them whose heart is perfect towards him. In this matter thou hast acted foolishly. Henceforward thou shalt have war.

²⁰ And they arose early in the morning, and went out to the wilderness of Thekoe. And as they were marching out, Josaphat stood and cried with a loud voice, and said, Hear me, Juda, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem. Trust in the Lord our God, and you shall be confirmed in your confidence. Confide in his prophet, and you shall prosper.

³⁵ After the things above mentioned, Josaphat king of Juda entered into a partnership with Ochozias, king of Israel, and he offended in so doing,

⁷ Take courage and behave like men, and be not terrified nor dismayed, because of the king of Assur, and because of all the multitude with him; for there are more with us than with him. ⁸ With him are arms of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to save, and to fight our battle. So the people were encouraged by the words of Ezekias king of Juda.

¹⁵ Though the Almighty, as he hath begun, may subdue me: yet I will speak and plead before him.

⁵ As for me, I have trusted in thy mercy; let my heart rejoice in thy salvation:

¹ A Psalm of David before he was anointed. The Lord is my light and my saviour. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defender of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evil doers approached me, to devour my flesh; they, who afflicted me, even mine enemies fainted and fell.

⁵ Happy he whose helper is the God of Jacob: his hope is in the Lord his God, ⁶ who made the heaven and the earth, the sea and all the things in them;

⁷ But blessed is the man who hath trusted in the Lord; and whose hope is the Lord. ⁸ He will be like a thriving tree near waters which shall shoot out its roots in a moist soil. It will not be afraid when heat cometh, though its stock be loaded with branches. In a year of drought it will not be afraid, nor will it fail to bear fruit.

⁴³ He trusted in God; let him now deliver him, if he delighteth in him: for, he said, I am the Son of God.
