¹² Having therefore such a hope, we use great plainness of speech,

²⁴ the Jews again came around him, and said to him, How long dost thou keep us in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly:

²⁵ These things I have spoken to you in parables. But a time is coming when I will no more speak to you in parables, but with plainness of speech tell you respecting the Father.

²⁹ His disciples say to him, Behold now thou speakest plainly and usest no parable.

¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and found that they were illiterate men, and in private stations of life, they wondered; and recollected their having been with Jesus.

²⁹ Now with regard to present occurrences, look down, O Lord, on their threatenings, and enable thy servants to speak thy word with all freedom ³⁰ when thou stretchest forth thy hand for healing; and signs and. wonders are done by the name of thy holy child, Jesus. ³¹ And while they were praying, the place in which they were assembled was shaken. And they were all filled with a Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.

²⁷ But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and told them, how he had on the road seen the Lord, who had spoken to him; and how he had spoken boldly in Damascus in the name of Jesus.

²⁹ and speaking boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus. He spoke also and disputed with the Hellenists, and they attempted to kill him.

³ They, however, staid there a considerable time, speaking boldly for the Lord who gave attestation to the word of his grace, and granted signs and miracles to be done by their hands.

¹⁹ but in a congregation I would rather speak five words with my understanding that I may instruct others, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

² but have renounced the secrets of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor dealing deceitfully with the word of God, but by the clear manifestation of the truth recommending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ If then these glad tidings of ours are veiled, they are veiled by those perishing things,

¹³ But having the same spirit of belief as is mentioned in this portion of scripture, "I believed, therefore I spake," we also believe and therefore we speak,

⁴ I use great freedom of speech to you. I have great boasting with regard to you. I am filled with comfort. I superabound with joy in all our affliction.

¹ Now I Paul myself exhort you by the meekness and gentleness of the Christ, [I who when present am indeed lowly among you, but being absent am bold towards you]

¹⁹ particularly for me, that to me a word may be given, that with the opening of my mouth, and with freedom am plainness of speech, I may make known the secret of the glad tidings, ²⁰ for which I am performing the office of an ambassador in a chain, that in this situation I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and hope that I shall in no wise be ashamed; but that in the most open manner, as always so now, Christ shall be magnified in my body, either by life or by death.

⁴ that I may publish it in the manner ought to do.

² Though we indeed had suffered before, and had been treated injuriously, as you know, at Philippi; we had the courage, by the help of our God, to declare to you the glad tidings of God with much earnestness.

¹³ for they who discharge the office of an almoner well, acquire for themselves an honourable rank, and much freedom of speech in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
