²⁵ for after they were gone from him, as he was left in great distress, his servants conspired against him, for the blood of the son of Jodae the priest, and put him to death on his bed. And when he was dead, they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tomb of the kings.

²⁰ When his servants arose and having formed a conspiracy smote Joas at the house of Mello which is in Sela, ²¹ [Now Jezirchar son of Jemuath and Jezebuth son of Somer his servants smote him] so that he died, he was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and Amessias his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁶ and they buried him in the city of David with the kings, because he had exercised goodness with respect to Israel, and with respect to God and his house.

⁶ Because they poured out the blood of thy saints and prophets, therefore thou hast given them blood to drink, for they deserve it.
