⁵ For he hath put his life in his hands, and smitten the Philistines, and the Lord hath wrought a great deliverance, and all Israel have seen and rejoiced. Why then wilt thou sin against innocent blood by putting David to death without cause?

¹³ Whereupon Moses said to the people, Take courage; stand still and see the salvation which cometh from the Lord; which he will work for you this day. For in the manner you have seen the Egyptians this day, you shall never see them again any more.

¹⁰ so that guiltless blood may not be shed in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee for a possession. ¹¹ But there must not be among you one guilty of blood. If therefore there be among you a man who hateth his neighbour, and who shall lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him so that he die, and flee to one of these cities; ¹² the senate of his city shall send and take him thence, and deliver him into the hands of the avenger of blood, and he shall be put to death. ¹³ Thine eye shall not spare him. So shalt thou purge away guiltless blood from Israel, and it shall be well with thee.

¹⁷ As my father fought for you, and adventured his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Madiam,

³ So when I saw that thou wast not a deliverer, I put my life in my hand, and went against the Ammonites, and the Lord delivered them into my hand. Why then are you come up this day to fight against me?

¹³ Whereupon Saul said, Not a man shall this day be put to death; for to day the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel.

⁴⁵ Upon this the people said to Saul, Shall he this day be put to death who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? As the Lord liveth there shall not a hair of his head fall to the ground. Because the people of God had that day performed exploits, therefore the people prayed for Jonathan that day, and he did not die.

⁴⁹ And David put his hand in the scrip, and took out a stone, and slinged it, and smote the Philistine on the forehead, and the stone pierced through the helmet, into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground. ⁵⁰ [Omitted] ⁵¹ And David ran, and stood upon him, and took his sword, and killed him, and cut off his head. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled; ⁵² and the men of Israel, and Juda, arose, and shouted, and pursued them to the entrance of Geth, and to the gate of Ascalon. And the wounded of the Philistines fell on the road to the gates, all the way to Geth, and even to Akkaron. ⁵³ And when the men of Israel returned from pursuing the Philistines, they trampled down their camps.

³² And when Jonathan in reply said to Saul, Why must he die? What hath he done?

²¹ Then the woman came to Saul, and when she saw that he was in great trepidation, she said to him, Behold I pray thee, thy servant hath hearkened to thy voice. I put my life in my hand, and heard the words which thou didst speak to me;

¹⁴ he stood in the midst of the piece of ground and maintained it and smote the Philistines, and the Lord gave a great victory.

³ for none who wait on thee should be put to shame. Let them be shamed who vainly transgress.

⁴ They who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. Mine enemies who persecute me wrongfully are become strong. I have made compensation on the spot for what I did not take by violence.

¹⁰⁹ My life is continually in thy hands; and I have not forgotten thy law.

¹⁵ But be assured that if you put me to death, you bring innocent blood on yourselves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants thereof. For in truth, the Lord hath sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing.

⁴ saying, I have sinned in having betrayed innocent blood To which they replied, What is that to us? Look thou to that.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could not in the least prevail, but that a tumult rather was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am clear from the blood of this innocent person. Look ye to it.

²⁵ But by this is fulfilled the word which is written in their law, They hated me without cause.

²⁴ But I make no account of any of these, nor is this life of mine so much my concern as to finish with joy my course; even the office which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the glad tidings of the favour of God.

³⁰ because he was on the brink of death, for the work of the Christ, having exposed his life that he might supply the want of your religious service for me.

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation, which was first published by the Lord, and confirmed for us by them who heard him,
