¹⁵ But if it seemeth not good to you to serve the Lord, chuse for yourselves this day whom you will serve, either the gods of your fathers which were in beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord; for he is holy.

²³ Now therefore put away the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord God of Israel. ²⁴ And the people said to Joshua, We will serve the Lord, and hearken to his voice.

³ Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, If with your whole heart you turn to the Lord, put away the strange gods from among you, and the bowers, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve him alone, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

³⁹ Then all the people fell on their faces and said, Of a truth the Lord is God. He is very God.

⁴¹ Yet these nations feared the Lord and at the same time served their graven images. And even to this day their children and their children's children do as their fathers did.

²⁶ And now, Lord, thou art God. As thou hast spoken these good things, respecting thy servant;

¹³ and prayed to him, and he hearkened to him and heard his cry, and brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. So Manasses knew that the Lord himself is God.

⁴ Why should I continue the debate any further? I stand corrected for commencing a suit against the Lord. On hearing such things, what answer can I, who am nothing, make to Thee? I will lay my hand on my mouth. ⁵ Once I have spoken, but I will not proceed a second time. I heard of Thee before, with the hearing of the ear; but now mine eye hath seen Thee, therefore I abhor myself, and am ready to drop into dissolution, and account myself as dust and ashes.

³ Know that the Lord is very God: he made us and not we ourselves: we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

⁵ and them who worship the host of heaven on the house tops; both those Worshippers and them also who swear by the Lord and who swear also by their king;

²⁴ No man can serve two masters: for he will either hate one and love the other; or he will attend to one and neglect the other. You cannot serve God and a worldly temperent

¹⁶ Do you not know that to whatsoever you deliver yourselves up as servants at command, you are the slaves of that which you obey, whether it be of sin for death; or of obedience for righteousness. ¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that though you were slaves of sin, yet from the heart you have conformed to the mould of doctrine in which you were cast, ¹⁸ and being freed from sin, have become servants of righteousness. ¹⁹ [I speak in the language of human affairs because of the weakness of your flesh,] for as you yielded up your members to iniquity, as slavish instruments of uncleanness and all manner of iniquity, so now yield up your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification. ²⁰ For when you were servants of sin"when you were at a loose from righteousness, ²¹ what fruit therefore had you then from those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. ²² But being now set free from sin and become servants of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and in the end, everlasting life.

²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons. ²² Are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

¹⁴ Form no associations with unbelievers; for what fellowship is there between righteousness and unrighteousness? What communion hath light with darkness? ¹⁵ What concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God hath said, "Because I will dwell among them and walk about among them, and will be their God, and they shall be my people;

¹⁵ I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot. I wish thou wert cold or hot. ¹⁶ So then; because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit thee out of my mouth,
