¹ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was instantaneously illuminated with his glory. ² And he cried out mightily with a strong voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become the habitation of devils, and the prison-hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. ³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies." ⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you are not partakers of her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues. ⁵ For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. ⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her two-fold more according to her works: With the cup which she has filled, pour out to her double. ⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.' ⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her. ⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all fragrant wood, and all sorts of ivory vessels, and all sorts of most precious wood vessels, and of brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and incense, and fragrant ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after have departed from you, and all things which were dainty and gorgeous have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! ¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like this great city!' ¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich because of her costliness! For in one hour she is made desolate. ²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her." ²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. ²² And the voice of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters shall not be heard any more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he is, shall be found anymore in you; and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard any more at all in you; ²³ and the light of a candle shall not shine any more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall not be heard any more at all in you: For your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived. ²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth."

¹ Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen on you. ² For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: But the LORD shall arise upon you, and His glory shall be seen on you. ³ And the Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

² And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the pathway of the east: And His voice was like a noise of many waters: And the earth shined with His glory.

²⁴ For as the lightning, that flashes out of one part under heaven, shines to the other part under heaven; so also shall the Son of Man be in His day.

⁸ And then that Wicked one shall be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming:

¹ And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: And a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as if it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

¹ And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying to me, "Come here; I will show you the judgment of the great whore that sits upon many waters:

⁷ And the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: For the glory of God illuminates it, and the Lamb is the light of it.

¹³ And these are they which you shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: The eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, ¹⁴ and the vulture, and the kite after its kind; ¹⁵ every raven after its kind; ¹⁶ and the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after its kind, ¹⁷ and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, ¹⁸ and the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, ¹⁹ and the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

¹⁹ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. ²⁰ It shall never be inhabited, from generation to generation neither shall it be dwelled in: Neither shall the Arabian pitch his tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. ²¹ But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of sorrowful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. ²² And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: And her time has come near, and her days shall not be prolonged.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: And I will sweep it with the broom of destruction", says the LORD of hosts.

⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights: ⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground."

¹¹ But the pelican and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: And He shall stretch out on it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. ¹² They shall call the nobles of it to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses of it: And it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. ¹⁴ The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. ¹⁵ There the great owl shall make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: There the vultures shall also be gathered, every one with her mate.

³⁰ Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and say to them, 'The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar on His habitation; He shall give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

³⁹ Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell in it: And it shall no longer be inhabited forever; neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation. ⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities", said the LORD; "so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell in it.

⁸ Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: Howl for her; take balm for her pain, it may be she be healed.

³⁷ And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

⁶⁰ So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon. ⁶¹ And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, "When you come to Babylon, and shall see, and shall read all these words; ⁶² then you shall say, 'O LORD, you have spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate forever.' ⁶³ And it shall be, when you have made an end of reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the middle of Euphrates: ⁶⁴ And you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her: And they shall be weary.' " Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

¹⁶ The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: But the LORD will be the hope of His people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

¹⁴ And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the wild beasts of the nations: Both the sea raven and the heron shall lodge in the pillar upper capitals of it; their voices shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds; for He shall uncover the cedar work.sea raven: In KJV, cormorantheron: In KJV, bitternpillar upper capitals: In KJV, upper lintels

³ who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: ⁴ Because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: Neither could any man tame him. ⁵ And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

²⁷ And when He went forth to land, there met Him a certain man out of the city, who had devils a long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. ²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God most high? I beseech You, do not torment me."

¹⁵ and His feet were like fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.

² Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose its seals?"

³ and cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars: And when he had cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices.

⁸ And there followed another angel, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication."

¹⁵ And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him that sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Your sickle, and reap: For the time has come for You to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe."

¹³ And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

¹⁹ And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: And great Babylon came up in remembrance before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.

⁵ And upon her forehead a name was written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

¹⁸ And the woman which you saw is that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth."

¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

¹ When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you: ² And put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. ³ Do not be desirous of his dainties: For they are deceitful meat.

¹⁵ Thus they shall be to you with whom you have labored, even your merchants, from your youth: Everyone shall wander to his quarter; none shall save you.

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, who made all the earth drunk: The nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicates, he has cast me out.

⁵ Those that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: Those that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

⁹ The ancients of Gebal and its wise men were your caulkers: All the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to occupy your merchandise. ¹⁰ Those from Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in your army, your men of war: They hung the shield and helmet in you; they set forth your splendor. ¹¹ The men of Arvad with your army were on your walls all around, and the Gammadims were in your towers: They hung their shields on your walls all around; they have made your beauty perfect. ¹² Tarshish was your merchant by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in your fairs. ¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were your merchants: They traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in your market. ¹⁴ They of the house of Togarmah traded in your fairs with horses and horsemen and mules. ¹⁵ The men of Dedan were your merchants; many isles were the merchandise of your hand: They brought you horns of ivory and ebony for a present. ¹⁶ Syria was your merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of your making: They occupied in your fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate. ¹⁷ Judah and the land of Israel were your merchants: They traded in your market wheat from Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm. ¹⁸ Damascus was your merchant in the multitude of the wares of your making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool. ¹⁹ Dan and Javan also going to and fro occupied in your fairs: Bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in your market. ²⁰ Dedan was your merchant in precious clothes for chariots. ²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with you in lambs, and rams, and goats: In these they were your merchants. ²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were your merchants: They occupied in your fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. ²³ Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were your merchants. ²⁴ These were your merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among your merchandise. ²⁵ The ships of Tarshish sang of you in your market: And you were replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.

²⁵ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who are gorgeously clothed, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways; because of by whom the way of truth shall be spoken evil of. ³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication."

⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning,

¹² And the men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone here beside yourselves? Son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whatever you have in the city, bring them out of this place: ¹³ For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them has waxed great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD has sent us to destroy it."

²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, "Depart, I implore you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest you be consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they got up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: And Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers.

²⁰ Go forth from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing you shall declare, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; all of you say, "The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob."

¹¹ Depart all of you, depart, go out from there, touch no unclean thing; go out of the midst of her; be clean, you who bear the vessels of the LORD.

⁸ Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks.

⁶ Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: Be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; He will render to her a recompense.

⁴⁵ My people, go out of the midst of her, and deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD.

⁵⁰ You who have escaped the sword, go away, do not stand still: Remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

³⁰ and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'

¹⁵ Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation', spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place", (whoever reads, let him understand): ¹⁶ Then let those who are in Judea flee into the mountains:

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you",

²² Do not suddenly lay hands on any man, neither be a partaker of other man's sins: Keep yourself pure.

¹¹ For he that bids him God-speed is a partaker of his evil deeds.

²⁰ And the LORD said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; ²¹ I will go down now, and see whether they have without exception done according to the cry of it, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know."

⁹ But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: And he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage that reaches up to heaven.

⁶ and said, "O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to you, my God: For our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up to heaven.

⁹ We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: Forsake her, and let us go everyone to his own country: For her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

² "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me."

²³ And if any mischief follows, then you shall give life for life, ²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

⁸ O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed; he shall be happy who recompenses you as you have bestowed upon us.

² "Speak comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry to her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: For she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins."

⁷ For your shame you shall have double honor; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: Therefore in their land they shall possess the double: Everlasting joy shall be to them.

¹⁸ And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled My land, they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable things."

¹⁸ Let them be confounded who persecute me, but don't let me be confounded: Let them be dismayed, but don't let me be dismayed: Bring on them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

¹⁵ Shout against her from every side: She has given her hand: Her foundations have fallen, her walls are thrown down: For it is the vengeance of the LORD: Take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her.

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ And I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight", said the LORD.

⁴⁹ As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon the slain of all the earth shall fall.

¹² Turn to the stronghold, all you prisoners of hope: Even today I do declare that I will render double to you;

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: The Lord reward him according to his works:

¹⁰ He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: He that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

⁵ And I heard the angel of the waters say, "You are righteous, O Lord, which is, and was, and shall be, because You have judged thus. ⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink; for they are worthy of such."

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colors, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication:

⁹ Kings' daughters were among Your honorable women: Upon Your right hand stood the queen in gold of Ophir.

¹² And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts did call for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth: ¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die. ¹⁴ And it was revealed in my ears by the LORD of hosts, "Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till you die", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: There is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: For no more shall you be called tender and delicate. ² Take the millstones, and grind meal: Uncover your locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

⁷ And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever': So that you did not take these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it. ⁸ Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children': ⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

¹⁸ Say to the king and to the queen, "Humble yourselves, sit down: For your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory."

¹ How the city that was full of people sits solitary! How she has become like a widow! She who was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how she has become tribute payer!

² "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyrus, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, 'I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas'; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: ³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you: ⁴ With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten your riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures: ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:" ⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have set your heart as the heart of God; ⁷ behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible ones of the nations: And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they shall defile your brightness. ⁸ They shall bring you down to the pit, and you shall die the deaths of those who are slain in the midst of the seas. ⁹ Will you yet say before him who slays you, 'I am God?' But you shall be a man, and no God, in the hand of him who slays you. ¹⁰ You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: For I have spoken it", said the Lord GOD.' "

¹⁵ This is the rejoicing city that dwelled carelessly, that said in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me": How she has become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! Everyone that passes by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself as though he is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now you know what withholds, that he might be revealed in his time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work: Only He who now holds back will impede, until He be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then that Wicked one shall be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming:

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, see, he is strong: And if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

¹¹ God has spoken once; twice I have heard this; that power belongs to God.

¹ In that day the LORD shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent with His severe and great and strong sword, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments. ¹⁰ For you have trusted in your wickedness: You have said, 'None sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge have perverted you; and you have said in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me.' ¹¹ Therefore evil shall come on you; you shall not know from where it rises: And mischief shall fall upon you; you shall not be able to put it off: And desolation shall come on you suddenly, which you shall not know.

³¹ "Behold, I am against you, O you most proud", said the Lord GOD of hosts: "for your day has come, the time that I will visit you.

³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

⁵⁸ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labor in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary."

²² Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

¹⁷ saying, "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which is, and was, and is to come; because You have taken to Yourself Your great power, and have reigned.

¹⁶ And the ten horns which you saw upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich because of her costliness! For in one hour she is made desolate.

³ And again they said, "Alleluia. And her smoke rose up forever and ever."

²⁸ And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

²³ and that the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance: He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

¹⁹ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; He has made it deep and large: Its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.Tophet; or, Hell

⁹ And the streams of it shall be turned into pitch, and the dust of it into brimstone, and the land of it shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke of it shall go up forever: From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever.

⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities", said the LORD; "so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell in it.

⁴⁶ At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: They shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at you. ¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, "How you are destroyed, who were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be upon all who haunt it!

⁹ 'I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known. ¹⁰ Yes, I will make many people amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I shall brandish My sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.'

¹⁴ he cried aloud, and said thus, 'Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: Let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from his branches:

² Howl, fir tree; for the cedar has fallen; because the mighty are ruined: Howl, O all you oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage has come down. ³ There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is in ruins: A voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is in ruins.

¹¹ And the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever: And they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

¹² "And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. ¹³ These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength to the beast.

³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.'

¹⁸ and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like this great city!'

²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her."

³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them: For they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up also.

⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground."

⁷ Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it: It is even the time of Jacob's trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

⁸ Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: Howl for her; take balm for her pain, it may be she be healed. ⁹ We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: Forsake her, and let us go everyone to his own country: For her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

¹⁵ alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty it shall come.

¹⁶ Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, said thus; "Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, 'Alas! Alas!' And they shall call the farmer to mourning, and such as are skillful of lamentation to wailing.

¹² "And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

⁸ Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: For strong is the Lord God Who judges her.

¹⁴ For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and its gain than fine gold.

¹ The burden of Tyre. Howl, you ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: It is revealed to them from the land of Chittim. ² Be still, you inhabitants of the isle; you whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. ³ And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations. ⁴ You should be ashamed, O Zidon: For the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, "I do not travail, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins. ⁵ As at the report concerning Egypt, so they shall be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. ⁶ You shall pass over to Tarshish; howl, you inhabitants of the isle. ⁷ Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is from ancient days? Her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. ⁸ Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earth? ⁹ The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring all the honorable of the earth into contempt. ¹⁰ Pass through your land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: There is no more strength. ¹¹ He outstretched His hand over the sea, He shook the kingdoms: The LORD has given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy its strongholds. ¹² And He said, "You shall rejoice no more, O you oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: Arise, pass over to Chittim; there also you shall have no rest." ¹³ Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, until the Assyrian founded it for those that dwell in the wilderness: They set up its towers, they raised up its palaces; and he brought it to ruin. ¹⁴ Howl, you ships of Tarshish: For your strength is laid waste. ¹⁵ And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: After the end of seventy years Tyre shall sing as a harlot.

¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, "How you are destroyed, who were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be upon all who haunt it! ¹⁸ Now shall the isles tremble in the day of your fall; yes, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at your departure." ' ¹⁹ For thus says the Lord GOD; 'When I shall make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon you, and great waters shall cover you; ²⁰ when I shall bring you down with those who descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set you in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with those who go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; ²¹ I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more: Though you are sought for, yet you shall never be found again', said the Lord GOD."

²⁷ Your riches, and your fairs, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, your caulkers, and the occupiers of your merchandise, and all your men of war, that are in you, and in all your company which is in the midst of you, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of your ruin. ²⁸ The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots. ²⁹ And all who handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land; ³⁰ and shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes: ³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing. ³² And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, saying, 'What city is like Tyrus, like those destroyed in the midst of the sea? ³³ When your wares went forth out of the seas, you filled many people; you did enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of your riches and of your merchandise. ³⁴ In the time when you shall be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company in the midst of you shall fall. ³⁵ All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at you, and their kings shall be terribly afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance. ³⁶ The merchants among the people shall hiss at you; you shall be a terror, and never shall be any more.' " ' "

¹¹ Howl, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all those that bear silver are cut off.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: For He shall even make a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the land.

⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

¹⁶ and He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things from this place; do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise."

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

¹⁶ And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond-servants, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: ¹⁷ And that no man might buy or sell, except he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

¹¹ And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones. ¹² And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: There came no such almug trees, nor were seen to this day.

⁸ Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: For I know that your servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and behold, my servants shall be with your servants,

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

⁵ They have made all your ship boards of fir trees from Senir: They have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for you. ⁶ Of the oaks of Bashan have they made your oars; the company of the Ashurites have made your benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim. ⁷ Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that with which you spread forth to be your sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered you. ⁸ The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were your mariners: O Tyrus, your wise men who were in you were your pilots.

¹⁶ And he that steals a man, and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

⁷ If a man be found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Israel, and makes merchandise of him, or sells him; then that thief shall die; and you shall put evil away from among you.

⁶⁸ And the LORD shall bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spoke to you, You shall see it no more again: And there you shall be sold to your enemies for servants and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

¹⁰ And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

¹⁵ beside that he had of the merchants, and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.

²⁵ And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.

⁹ And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: Neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave king Solomon.

⁴ There were also that said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that on our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children: And, see, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought to bondage already: Neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

⁸ And I said to them, "We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, which were sold to the heathen; and will you even sell your brothers? Or shall they be sold to us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

³ Because of the smell of your good ointments your name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love you.

¹³ Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; henna flowers, with spikenard, ¹⁴ spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

⁵ I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, on the handles of the lock.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "Where is the bill of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you have sold yourselves, and for your transgressions your mother is put away.

¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were your merchants: They traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in your market.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

⁶ that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?"

³ Then Mary took a pound of very costly ointment of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair: And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. ⁴ Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, ⁵ "Why was this fragrant ointment not sold for three hundred silver coins, and given to the poor?" ⁶ This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the money bag, and carried what was put in it. ⁷ Then Jesus said, "Let her alone: She has kept this for the day of My burial. ⁸ For the poor you always have with you; but Me you do not always have."

¹⁰ for whoremongers, for those that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

⁴ And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: And the children of Israel also wept again, and said, "Who shall give us flesh to eat?

³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: Because there they buried the people that lusted.

¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

¹⁴ But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

⁶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

² You lust, and have not: You kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: You fight and war, yet you do not have, because you do not ask.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust of it: But he that does the will of God abides forever.

²³ And they cried out to the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said to Micah, "What ails you, that you come with such a company? ²⁴ And he said, "You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and you are gone away: And what have I more? And what is this that you say to me, What ails you?

³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.

⁷ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: He loves to oppress. ⁸ And Ephraim said, 'Yet I have become rich, I have found my substance: In all my labors they shall find no iniquity in me that was sin.'

¹⁶ Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, said thus; "Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, 'Alas! Alas!' ⁵ whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: And those that sell them say, 'Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich': And their own shepherds do not pity them.

¹⁷ Then He taught, saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called the house of prayer of all nations'? But you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

¹⁹ Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace to the rulers,

²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen; ²⁵ whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this craft we have our wealth. ²⁶ Moreover, you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods, which are made with hands: ²⁷ So that not only is our craft in danger of being disregarded as nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship."

¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore:

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: So that those which would pass from this place to you cannot; neither can those which would come from that place pass to us.' ²⁷ Then he said, 'I beseech you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house: ²⁸ For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' ²⁹ Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' ³⁰ And he said, 'No, father Abraham: But if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.' ³¹ But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead.' "

⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

⁶ And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.

¹² And a man of Benjamin ran out of the army, and he came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes torn, and with earth upon his head.

¹⁹ And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of diverse colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

¹ Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackcloths, and earth on them.

¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

³⁰ and shall cause their voice to be heard against you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:

⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges on the enemy.

³¹ So let all your enemies perish, O LORD: But let those that love him be as the sun when he goes forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

⁴⁷ It is God that avenges me, and subdues the people under me.

¹¹ Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of Your judgments.

¹ O LORD God to whom vengeance belongs, O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show Yourself.

¹¹ Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness of it. ¹² Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: Then all the trees of the woods shall rejoice ¹³ before the LORD: For He comes, for He comes to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth.

⁴² The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: And all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

²⁸ Let them curse, but You bless: When they arise, let them be ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice.

¹⁰ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: The earth also shall disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

²³ Sing, O you heavens; for the LORD has done it: Shout, you lower parts of the earth: Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it: For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel.

¹³ Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: For the LORD has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted.

⁴⁷ Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment on the graven images of Babylon: And her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her. ⁴⁸ Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for Babylon: For the spoilers shall come to her from the north", said the LORD.

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute': ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

⁷ And shall not God avenge His own elect, who cry day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? ⁸ I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth?"

²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone;

⁵ which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

¹¹ And He gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers;

² That you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment from us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:

¹⁷ But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁰ And they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell on the earth?"

¹² Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time."

¹ And after these things I heard a great voice of many people in heaven, saying, "Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, to the Lord our God: ² For His judgments are true and righteous: For He has judged the great whore, which corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand." ³ And again they said, "Alleluia. And her smoke rose up forever and ever."

⁵ The depths have covered them: They sank into the bottom as a stone.

¹¹ And you did divide the sea before them, so that they went through the middle of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors you threw into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.

⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: Yes, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

²¹ I will make you a terror, and you shall be no more: Though you are sought for, yet you shall never be found again', said the Lord GOD."

¹⁹ Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: But he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

⁸ but did not prevail; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

²⁰ Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

²² And the voice of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters shall not be heard any more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he is, shall be found anymore in you; and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard any more at all in you;

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

⁴ and the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

⁸ The mirth of tambourine ceases, the noise of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it.

³⁴ Then I will cause the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem: For the land shall be desolate."

⁹ For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will cause the voice of mirth to cease out of this place before your eyes, and in your days, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: For the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever": And of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first', said the LORD.

¹³ And I will cause the noise of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall no longer be heard.

²² And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

¹⁷ How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! And how oft comes their destruction on them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

⁸ Who has taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earth?

³³ When your wares went forth out of the seas, you filled many people; you did enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of your riches and of your merchandise. ³⁴ In the time when you shall be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company in the midst of you shall fall.

⁴ Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that sells nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

¹¹ And they had regard for him, because for a long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹³ And he does great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, ¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived. ¹⁵ And he had power to give life to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. ¹⁶ And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond-servants, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all fragrant wood, and all sorts of ivory vessels, and all sorts of most precious wood vessels, and of brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and incense, and fragrant ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after have departed from you, and all things which were dainty and gorgeous have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! ¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like this great city!' ¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and wailing, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich because of her costliness! For in one hour she is made desolate.

⁸ But the fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: Which is the second death."

⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: And they shall reign forever and ever.

¹⁵ For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whoever loves and fabricates a lie.

³⁴ Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but on all these.

⁹ In you are men who carry tales to shed blood: And in you they eat upon the mountains: In the midst of you they commit lewdness.

¹² In you they have taken gifts to shed blood; you have taken usury and increase, and you have greedily gained from your neighbors by extortion, and have forgotten Me", said the Lord GOD.

²⁷ Her princes in the middle of her are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.

²¹ I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are similar to whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: For they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute': ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: Truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

¹⁵ Who killed both the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God, and are contrary to all men:

⁷ And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink; for they are worthy of such."

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: And when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

² For His judgments are true and righteous: For He has judged the great whore, which corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand."
