⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding.

¹⁶ Do not be afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁷ for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him. ¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul: And men will praise you when you do well to yourself. ¹⁹ He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light. ²⁰ Man which is in honor, and does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.

¹⁰⁴ Through Your precepts I get understanding: Therefore I hate every false way.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And choosing to get understanding rather than silver!

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro by those that seek death.

²³ Buy the truth, and do not sell it; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

⁴ I made great works for myself; I built myself houses; I planted myself vineyards: ⁵ I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits: ⁶ I made myself pools of water, to water with them the wood that brings forth trees: ⁷ I got myself servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of large and small domestic beasts above all that were in Jerusalem before me: ⁸ I also gathered for myself silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I got myself men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and of all sorts. ⁹ So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: Also my wisdom remained with me.

⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yes, he has neither child nor brother: Yet there is no end of all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither has he said, "For whom do I labor, and bereave my soul of good?" This also is vanity, yes, it is a sore travail.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: But the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

¹⁶ Then I said, "Wisdom is better than strength: Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war: But one sinner destroys much good."

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is likened to treasure hid in a field; which when a man has found it, he hides it, and out of joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. ⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a merchant man, seeking better quality pearls: ⁴⁶ Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁴² But one thing is necessary: And Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

⁸ Yes without doubt, and I count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: For whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as dung, that I may win Christ,
