⁷ For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: He says to you, "Eat and drink"; but his heart is not with you.

¹⁵ And she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you', when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me in what your great strength lies."

²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant.

³ And behold, certain ones of the scribes said within themselves, "This Man blasphemes." ⁴ But Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches Him: For she is a sinner."

³⁷ And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee implored Him to dine with him: And He went in, and sat down to eat. ³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner. ³⁹ And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ You fools, did not He that made that which is outside make that which is inside also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have; and behold, all things are clean to you. ⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: These you ought to have done, and not left the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are as graves which are not visible, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them." ⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered, and said to Him, "Master, in this saying You reproach us also." ⁴⁶ And He said, "Woe to you also, you lawyers! For you load men with burdens grievous to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: For they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute': ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: Truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you, lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge: You did not enter in yourselves, and you hindered those that were entering in." ⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel against Him vehemently, and to provoke Him to speak of many things: ⁵⁴ Lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.
