And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁹ And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

¹¹ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ¹² "When you take the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then they shall give every man a ransom for his soul to the LORD, when you number them; that there be no plague among them, when you number them.their number: In Hebrew, them that are to be numbered ¹³ They shall give this, everyone that passes among those that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs): A half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD.half a shekel of Jewish money equated to 1/10'th of an ounce of silver, or 1 shilling and 1.688 pence UK money; per Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ¹⁴ Everyone that passes among those that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering to the LORD. ¹⁵ The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering to the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls. ¹⁶ And you shall take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial to the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls."

² take you the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; ³ from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: You and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

⁴⁶ On this side of the Jordan, in the valley in front of Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelled at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they had come forth out of Egypt: ⁴⁷ And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side of the Jordan toward the sun rise; ⁴⁸ from Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even to Mount Sion, which is Hermon, ⁴⁹ and all the plain on this side of the Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.

¹ And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is in front of Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan,

⁶ And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, in front of Bethpeor: But no man knows of his sepulcher to this day.

⁸ And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

¹ And the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹ And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

³² And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben: For she said, "Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; therefore now my husband will love me."Reuben; that is, See a son

⁸ And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

² Gather yourselves together, and hear, you sons of Jacob; and hearken to Israel your father. ³ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:

¹ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: ² And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: ³ And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, "You take too much on you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: Why then lift you up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? ⁴ And when Moses heard it, he fell on his face: ⁵ And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, "Even tomorrow the LORD will show who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to him: Even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near to him. ⁶ This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company; ⁷ and put fire in it, and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow: And it shall be that the man whom the LORD does choose, he shall be holy: You take too much on you, you sons of Levi. ⁸ And Moses said to Korah, "Hear, I implore you, you sons of Levi: ⁹ Seems it but a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? ¹⁰ And He has brought you near to Him, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you: And do you seek the priesthood also? ¹¹ For which cause both you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD: And what is Aaron, that you murmur against him? ¹² And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: Which said, "We will not come up: ¹³ Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except you make yourself altogether a prince over us? ¹⁴ Moreover you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up. ¹⁵ And Moses was very wroth, and said to the LORD, Respect not you their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them. ¹⁶ And Moses said to Korah, "Be you and all your company before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow: ¹⁷ And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring you before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer. ¹⁸ And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense on it, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron. ¹⁹ And Korah gathered all the congregation against them to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: And the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation. ²⁰ And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ²¹ separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. ²² And they fell upon their faces, and said, "O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be wroth with all the congregation? ²³ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴ speak to the congregation, saying, "Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. ²⁵ And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. ²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, "Depart, I implore you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest you be consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they got up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: And Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. ²⁸ And Moses said, "Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own mind. ²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed on them: And they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them: For they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up also. ³⁵ And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the contrariety of Korah.

³⁵ And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna, until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

² And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

³⁸ The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: For they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: And they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.

³ our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of those that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

³⁴ And this shall be a sign to you, that shall come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die, both of them.

¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. ¹⁸ And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

²² and a curse shall be taken up by all the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon concerning them, saying, "The LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire";

⁸ And I will set My face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people; and you shall know that I am the LORD.

⁶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. ⁷ Neither be idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." ⁸ Nor let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell. ⁹ Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents. ¹⁰ Nor murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that afterward would live ungodly;

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities all around them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

²⁴ And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: These are the families of the Korhites.

⁵ And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, "Even tomorrow the LORD will show who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to him: Even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near to him.

³³ They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed on them: And they perished from among the congregation.

¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

¹ And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brothers, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. ² And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in to her. ³ And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er. ⁴ And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she called his name Onan. ⁵ And she once again conceived, and bore a son; and called his name Shelah: And he was at Chezib, when she bore him. ⁶ And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar. ⁷ And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. ⁸ And Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother." ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother. ¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: For this reason he slew him also.

¹² And the sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zarah: But Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

³ The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: Which three were born to him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he slew him. ⁴ And Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. ⁵ The sons of Pharez; Hezron, and Hamul. ⁶ And the sons of Zerah; Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: Five of them in all. ⁷ And the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed. ⁸ And the sons of Ethan; Azariah.

⁵ And she once again conceived, and bore a son; and called his name Shelah: And he was at Chezib, when she bore him.

¹¹ Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, "Remain a widow at your father's house, until Shelah my son is grown": For he said, "Lest peradventure he die also, as his brothers did." And Tamar went and dwelled in her father's house.

¹⁴ And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the roadway to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she had not been given to him to wife.

²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, "She has been more righteous than I; because I did not give her to my son Shelah." And he knew her no more again. ²⁷ And it came to pass at the time of her travail, that behold, twins were in her womb. ²⁸ And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: And the midwife took and bound a scarlet thread upon his hand, saying, "This one came out first." ²⁹ And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that behold, his brother came out: And she said, "How have you broken forth? This breach be upon you": Therefore his name was called Pharez.Pharez; that is, A breach ³⁰ And afterward his brother came out, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: And his name was called Zarah.

¹⁸ Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, ¹⁹ and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, ²⁰ and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon, ²¹ and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, ²² and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.

²¹ The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those that worked fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,

⁴ And at Jerusalem dwelled certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez;

⁶ All the sons of Perez that dwelled at Jerusalem were four hundred three score and eight valiant men.

²⁴ And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people.

³ And Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram.

³³ who was the son of Amminadab, who was the son of Aram, who was the son of Esrom, who was the son of Phares, who was the son of Juda,

⁸ Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise: Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father's children shall bow down before you.

²⁶ Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ²⁷ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Judah, were three score and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

³ And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: And Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the children of Judah. ⁴ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were three score and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

² For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's):

¹⁴ The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord sprang up out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

¹⁷ And God hearkened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob the fifth son. ¹⁸ And Leah said, "God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband": And she called his name Issachar.Issachar, that is, A hire

¹³ And the sons of Issachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.

⁵ And those that do pitch next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar: And Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain of the children of Issachar.

¹ Now the sons of Issachar were, Tola, and Puah, Jashub, and Shimrom, four.

¹⁹ And Leah conceived again, and bore Jacob the sixth son. ²⁰ And Leah said, "God has endued me with a good dowry; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons": And she called his name Zebulun.Zebulun; that is, Dwelling

¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.

³⁰ Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ³¹ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

⁷ Then the tribe of Zebulun: And Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain of the children of Zebulun. ⁸ And his host, and those that were numbered of it, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: "For God," he said, "has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house."Manasseh; that is, Forgetting ⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim: "For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction."Ephraim; that is, Fruitful

²⁰ And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him.

⁵ And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came into Egypt to you, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

¹³ And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near to him. ¹⁴ And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn. ¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said, "God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God which fed me all my life long to this day, ¹⁶ the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth." ¹⁷ And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: And he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. ¹⁸ And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father: For this is the firstborn; put your right hand upon his head." ¹⁹ And his father refused, and said, "I know it, my son, I know it: He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: But truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations." ²⁰ And he blessed them that day, saying, "In you shall Israel bless, saying, 'God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh' ": And he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

¹⁴ And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.

³⁹ And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelled in it.

¹ And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spoke before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel:

¹⁵ And I gave Gilead to Machir.

¹ There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: Because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

¹⁴ Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after you, Benjamin, among your people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun those that handle the pen of the writer.

¹⁴ The sons of Manasseh; Ashriel, whom she bore: (but his concubine the Aramitess bore Machir the father of Gilead: ¹⁵ And Machir took to wife the sister of Huppim and Shuppim, whose sister's name was Maachah); and the name of the second was Zelophehad: And Zelophehad had daughters. ¹⁶ And Maachah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem. ¹⁷ And the sons of Ulam; Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh. ¹⁸ And his sister Hammoleketh bore Ishod, and Abiezer, and Mahalah. ¹⁹ And the sons of Shemidah were, Ahian, and Shechem, and Likhi, and Aniam.

² There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: These were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.

¹¹ And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite: And his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

²⁴ Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.Jehovahshalom; that is, The LORD send peace

³⁴ But the Spirit of the LORD came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.

² And he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

¹ Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: And these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

¹⁰ Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad: ¹¹ For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to their father's brothers' sons: ¹² And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

³⁴ Of the children of Manasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ³⁵ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

²⁰ And by him shall be the tribe of Manasseh: And the captain of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. ²¹ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

²⁰ And the sons of Ephraim; Shuthelah, and Bered his son, and Tahath his son, and Eladah his son, and Tahath his son, ²¹ and Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elead, whom the men of Gath that were born in that land slew, because they came down to take away their domestic beasts.

³² Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ³³ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred.

¹⁸ On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies: And the captain of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud. ¹⁹ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand and five hundred.

² And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am."

²¹ And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.

⁶ The sons of Benjamin; Bela, and Becher, and Jediael, three. ⁷ And the sons of Bela; Ezbon, and Uzzi, and Uzziel, and Jerimoth, and Iri, five; heads of the house of their fathers, mighty men of valor; and were reckoned by their genealogies twenty and two thousand and thirty and four. ⁸ And the sons of Becher; Zemira, and Joash, and Eliezer, and Elioenai, and Omri, and Jerimoth, and Abiah, and Anathoth, and Alameth. All these are the sons of Becher. ⁹ And the number of them, after their genealogy by their generations, heads of the house of their fathers, mighty men of valor, was twenty thousand and two hundred. ¹⁰ The sons also of Jediael; Bilhan: And the sons of Bilhan; Jeush, and Benjamin, and Ehud, and Chenaanah, and Zethan, and Tharshish, and Ahishahar. ¹¹ All these the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valor, were seventeen thousand and two hundred soldiers, fit to go out for war and battle. ¹² Shuppim also, and Huppim, the children of Ir, and Hushim, the sons of Aher.

¹ Now Benjamin begat Bela his firstborn, Ashbel the second, and Aharah the third,

³ And the sons of Bela were, Addar, and Gera, and Abihud,

³⁶ Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ³⁷ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

²² Then the tribe of Benjamin: And the captain of the sons of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni. ²³ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

²³ And the sons of Dan; Hushim.

³⁸ Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ³⁹ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Dan, were three score and two thousand and seven hundred.

²⁵ The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side by their armies: And the captain of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. ²⁶ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were three score and two thousand and seven hundred.

¹⁷ And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister: And the sons of Beriah; Heber, and Malchiel.

³⁰ The sons of Asher; Imnah, and Isuah, and Ishuai, and Beriah, and Serah their sister.

⁴⁰ Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ⁴¹ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

²⁷ And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher: And the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran. ²⁸ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.

¹³ The sons of Naphtali; Jahziel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shallum, the sons of Bilhah.

⁴² Of the children of Naphtali, throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; ⁴³ those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

²⁹ Then the tribe of Naphtali: And the captain of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan. ³⁰ And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

³⁷ And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.

²⁶ A bekah for every man, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for everyone that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men.1 Hebrew bekah of silver weighed ~0.25 troy oz, or ~7.8 grams; per Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI.

⁴⁶ even all those that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

³² These are those which were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers: All those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

²¹ And Moses said, "The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and you have said, "I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

²³ Their children also multiplied you as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land, concerning which you had promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.

⁹ Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has worked this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

²⁰ He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty. ²² He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and destroys them: He enlarges the nations, and straitens them again.

²⁰ You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

² And I will make a great nation of you, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing:

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, "I will give this land to your seed": And he built an altar to the LORD there, Who appeared to him.

²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

¹ And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

⁴⁴ And gave them the lands of the heathen: And they inherited the labor of the people;

²² And it shall come to pass, that you shall divide it by lot as an inheritance to yourselves, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: And they shall be to you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

²⁷ And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, Whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.'

⁵ Blessed are the meek: For they shall inherit the earth.

¹⁰ and have made us kings and priests to our God: And we shall reign on the earth."

²⁷ And there shall in no case enter into it anything that defiles, neither anything that works abomination, or makes a lie: But those which are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

³ ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

⁵ Why, said they, if we have found grace in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession, and bring us not over the Jordan.

⁵⁴ And you shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: And to the more you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer you shall give the less inheritance: Every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falls; according to the tribes of your fathers you shall inherit.

¹⁴ And the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, for as much as the LORD has blessed me till now?

⁵⁶ According to the lot shall its possession be divided between many and few.

¹³ And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, "This is the land which you shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give to the nine tribes, and to the half tribe:

² By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

⁶ You shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description here to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: And there Joshua divided the land to the children of Israel according to their divisions. ¹¹ And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: And the border of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

¹ And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: And their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.

¹⁰ And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families: And the border of their inheritance was to Sarid:

¹⁷ And the fourth lot came out to Issachar, for the children of Issachar according to their families.

²⁴ And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families.

³² The sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

⁴⁰ And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

³³ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing of it is of the LORD.

¹⁸ The lot causes contentions to cease, and parts between the mighty.

²⁶ And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

¹² giving thanks to the Father, which has made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

⁴ And I heard the number of those which were sealed: And there were sealed one hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. ⁵ Of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand were sealed. ⁶ Of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand were sealed. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand were sealed. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand were sealed. Of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand were sealed.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the chosen have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

⁴ Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

¹¹ And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

¹⁶ And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred and thirty-seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families. ¹⁸ And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: And the years of the life of Kohath were a hundred and thirty-three years. ¹⁹ And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: These are the families of Levi according to their generations.

¹ These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai. ² And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ³ These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. ⁴ And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: And Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aaron their father.

² command the children of Israel, that they give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and you shall give also to the Levites suburbs for the cities all around them. ³ And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their domestic beasts, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

¹ The sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

¹⁶ The sons of Levi; Gershom, Kohath, and Merari. ¹⁷ And these are the names of the sons of Gershom; Libni, and Shimei. ¹⁸ And the sons of Kohath were, Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. ¹⁹ The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers. ²⁰ Of Gershom; Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, ²¹ joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeaterai his son. ²² The sons of Kohath; Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son, ²³ elkanah his son, and Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son, ²⁴ tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son. ²⁵ And the sons of Elkanah; Amasai, and Ahimoth. ²⁶ As for Elkanah: The sons of Elkanah; Zophai his son, and Nahath his son, ²⁷ eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son. ²⁸ And the sons of Samuel; the firstborn Vashni, and Abiah. ²⁹ The sons of Merari; Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzza his son, ³⁰ shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son.

²⁰ And Amram took himself Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses: And the years of the life of Amram were a hundred and thirty-seven years.

¹⁷ And these were the sons of Levi by their names; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. ¹⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families; Libni, and Shimei. ¹⁹ And the sons of Kohath by their families; Amram, and Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel. ²⁰ And the sons of Merari by their families; Mahli, and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to the house of their fathers. ²¹ Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: These are the families of the Gershonites.

¹ Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

¹ And a man of the house of Levi went, and took a daughter of Levi to wife. ² And the woman conceived, and bore a son: And when she saw him, that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

¹² You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister: She is your father's near kinswoman.

² And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

⁸ And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

¹ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. ² And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

⁴ And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: And Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aaron their father.

¹ Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ² But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: Therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office.

⁴⁷ But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁹ only you shall not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

³⁹ All that were numbered of the Levites, which Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, throughout their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thousand.

²⁷ At the appointment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens, and in all their service: And you shall appoint to them in charge all their burdens.

⁴⁸ Even those that were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and eighty,

²⁰ And the LORD spoke to Aaron, You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any part among them: I am your part and your inheritance among the children of Israel. ²¹ And behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. ²² Neither must the children of Israel from now on come near the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die. ²³ But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. ²⁴ But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering to the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: Therefore I have said to them, "Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

² command the children of Israel, that they give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and you shall give also to the Levites suburbs for the cities all around them. ³ And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their domestic beasts, and for their goods, and for all their beasts. ⁴ And the suburbs of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits all around. ⁵ And you shall measure from outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the middle: This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. ⁶ And among the cities which you shall give to the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which you shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: And to them you shall add forty and two cities. ⁷ So all the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: Them shall you give with their suburbs. ⁸ And the cities which you shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: From those that have many you shall give many; but from those that have few you shall give few: Every one shall give of his cities to the Levites according to his inheritance which he inherits.

⁹ Why Levi has no part nor inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, according to as the LORD your God promised him.

²⁷ and the Levite that is within your gates; you shall not forsake him; for he has no part nor inheritance with you. ²⁸ At the end of three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates: ²⁹ And the Levite, (because he has no part nor inheritance with you), and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

¹ The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: They shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance. ² Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brothers: The LORD is their inheritance, as He has said to them.

¹⁴ Only to the tribes of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said to them.

³³ But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: The LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said to them.

³ For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and a half tribe on the other side of the Jordan: But to the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

³ And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

¹ And the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, ² take you the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

²⁹ Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

¹⁴ And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD swore to them. ¹⁵ For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.

³ Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: For all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD your God has destroyed them from among you. ⁴ But you that did join to the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

⁵ But with many of them God was not well pleased: For they were overthrown in the wilderness.

¹⁷ But with whom was He grieved forty years? Was it not with those that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?

²³ surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those that provoked me see it: ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into where he went; and his seed shall possess it.

²⁸ Say to them, As truly as I live", says the LORD, as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: ²⁹ Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me. ³⁰ Doubtless you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell in it, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

³⁵ I the LORD have said, "I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

⁴⁹ get you up into this mountain Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is in front of Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession: ⁵⁰ And die in the mount where you go up, and be gathered to your people; as Aaron your brother died in Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people:

⁶ Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal: And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said to him, "You know the thing that the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning me and you in Kadeshbarnea. ⁷ Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. ⁸ Nevertheless my brothers that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: But I wholly followed the LORD my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, "Surely the land on which your feet have trodden shall be your inheritance, and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, "these forty and five years, even since the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: And now, see, I am this day eighty and five years old.

³ You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men." ⁴ For a thousand years in Your sight are as only yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. ⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: In the morning they are like grass which grows up. ⁶ In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers. ⁷ For we are consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled.

²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: On those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness: Otherwise you also shall be cut off.

⁵ But with many of them God was not well pleased: For they were overthrown in the wilderness. ⁶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

¹⁷ But with whom was He grieved forty years? Was it not with those that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did He swear that they should not enter into His rest, but to those that did not believe?

⁵ Therefore I will put you in remembrance, though you once knew this, how the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those that did not believe.
