These were the chief of the priests and of their brothers in the days of Jeshua. ⁸ Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was over the thanksgiving, he and his brothers. ⁹ Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brothers, were in front of them in the watches. ¹⁰ And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada, ¹¹ and Joiada begat Jonathan, and Jonathan begat Jaddua. ¹² And in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers: Of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah; ¹³ of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan; ¹⁴ of Melicu, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph; ¹⁵ of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai; ¹⁶ of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam; ¹⁷ of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai: ¹⁸ Of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan; ¹⁹ and of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi; ²⁰ of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber; ²¹ of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; of Jedaiah, Nethaneel. ²² The Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were recorded chief of the fathers: Also the priests, to the reign of Darius the Persian. ²³ The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles, even until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib. ²⁴ And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brothers in front of them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward in front of ward. ²⁵ Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were porters keeping the ward at the thresholds of the gates. ²⁶ These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe. ²⁷ And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. ²⁸ And the sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain country all around Jerusalem, and from the villages of Netophathi; ²⁹ also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: For the singers had built them villages all around Jerusalem. ³⁰ And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall. ³¹ Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of those that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate: ³² And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah, ³³ and Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam, ³⁴ judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, ³⁵ and certain of the priests' sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph: ³⁶ And his brothers, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them. ³⁷ And at the fountain gate, which was in front of them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall, above the house of David, even to the water gate eastward. ³⁸ And the other company of those that gave thanks went in front of them, and I after them, and the half of the people on the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even to the broad wall; ³⁹ and from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even to the sheep gate: And they stood still in the prison gate. ⁴⁰ So stood the two companies of those that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me: ⁴¹ And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; ⁴² and Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer. ⁴³ Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: For God had made them rejoice with great joy: The wives also and the children rejoiced: So that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off. ⁴⁴ And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: For Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited. ⁴⁵ And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son. ⁴⁶ For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. ⁴⁷ And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: And they sanctified holy things to the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them to the children of Aaron.

¹⁷ And the sons of Jeconiah; Assir, Salathiel his son, ¹⁸ malchiram also, and Pedaiah, and Shenazar, Jecamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah. ¹⁹ And the sons of Pedaiah were, Zerubbabel, and Shimei: And the sons of Zerubbabel; Meshullam, and Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister:

¹ Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and came again to Jerusalem and Judah, every one to his city; ² which came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mizpar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

⁸ Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those that were come out of the captivity to Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.

² then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said to them, "Let us build with you: For we seek your God, as you do; and we do sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up here.

² Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: And with them were the prophets of God helping them.

⁷ who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, "of the men of the people of Israel was this;

² seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, ³ pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, ⁴ hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, ⁵ harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, ⁶ daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch, ⁷ meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, ⁸ maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah: These were the priests.

¹⁰ And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada,

¹ In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

¹² Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people feared before the LORD.

¹⁴ And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

² "Now speak to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

²¹ "Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, 'I will shake the heavens and the earth; ²² and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. ²³ In that day', says the LORD of hosts, 'I will take you, O Zerubbabel, My servant, the son of Shealtiel,' says the LORD, 'and will make you as a signet: For I have chosen you', says the LORD of hosts."

¹ And He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. ² And the LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, O Satan; even the LORD that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you: Is this not a brand plucked out of the fire?" ³ Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. ⁴ And He answered and spoke to those that stood before him, saying, "Take away the filthy garments from him." And to him He said, "Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with a change of apparel." ⁵ And I said, "Let them set a fair turban upon his head." So they set a fair turban upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by. ⁶ And the angel of the LORD protested to Joshua, saying, ⁷ "Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'If you will walk in My ways, and if you will keep My ordinances, then you shall also judge My house, and shall also keep My courts, and I will give you places to walk among these that stand by. ⁸ Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you, and your fellows that sit before you: For they are men wondered at: For, behold, I will bring forth My Servant the BRANCH. ⁹ For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: Behold, I will engrave the carved work upon it', says the LORD of hosts, 'and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

⁶ Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit', says the LORD of hosts. ⁷ 'Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain: And he shall bring forth its headstone with shoutings, crying out, "Grace, grace to it." ⁸ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ⁹ "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it"; and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. ¹⁰ "For who has despised the day of small things? For they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

¹¹ then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

¹² And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechoniah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. ¹³ And Zerubbabel begot Abiud, and Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor.

⁵ There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: And his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

¹⁰ And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,

¹⁰ Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin.

¹⁸ the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah.

² Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

⁴⁸ the children of Lebana, the children of Hagaba, the children of Shalmai,

⁴ Then stood up on the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried out with a loud voice to the LORD their God.

⁹ And the Levites: Both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel; ¹⁰ and their brothers, Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanan, ¹¹ micha, Rehob, Hashabiah, ¹² zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah, ¹³ hodijah, Bani, Beninu.

¹⁷ And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: And Bakbukiah the second among his brothers, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

²² The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the business of the house of God.

²⁴ And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brothers in front of them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward in front of ward.

¹ A Song of degrees. Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, that stand by night in the house of the LORD. ² Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. ³ The LORD that made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

³ And the children of Amram; Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam. The sons also of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁴ Eleazar begat Phinehas, Phinehas begat Abishua, ⁵ and Abishua begat Bukki, and Bukki begat Uzzi, ⁶ and Uzzi begat Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begat Meraioth, ⁷ meraioth begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ⁸ and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz, ⁹ and Ahimaaz begat Azariah, and Azariah begat Johanan, ¹⁰ and Johanan begat Azariah, (he it is that executed the priest's office in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem): ¹¹ And Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ¹² and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum, ¹³ and Shallum begat Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begat Azariah, ¹⁴ and Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak, ¹⁵ and Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

¹ Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Meah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananeel.

²⁶ These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.

⁴ And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied to Tobiah:

⁷ And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.

²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite: Therefore I chased him from me.

³³ And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: For they were employed in that work day and night. ³⁴ These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelled at Jerusalem.

¹² and said to them, "You are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place that I have prepared for it.

⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: One principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar. ⁷ Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, ⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, ⁹ the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, ¹⁰ the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, ¹¹ the ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah, ¹² the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, ¹³ the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, ¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, ¹⁵ the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses, ¹⁶ the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel, ¹⁷ the one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul, ¹⁸ the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah. ¹⁹ These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him. ²⁰ And the rest of the sons of Levi were these: Of the sons of Amram; Shubael: Of the sons of Shubael; Jehdeiah. ²¹ Concerning Rehabiah: Of the sons of Rehabiah, the first was Isshiah. ²² Of the Izharites; Shelomoth: Of the sons of Shelomoth; Jahath. ²³ And the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. ²⁴ Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah: Of the sons of Michah; Shamir. ²⁵ The brother of Michah was Isshiah: Of the sons of Isshiah; Zechariah. ²⁶ The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi: The sons of Jaaziah; Beno. ²⁷ The sons of Merari by Jaaziah; Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri. ²⁸ Of Mahli came Eleazar, who had no sons. ²⁹ Concerning Kish: The son of Kish was Jerahmeel. ³⁰ The sons also of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after the house of their fathers. ³¹ These likewise cast lots in front of their brothers the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers in front of their younger brothers.

¹⁴ And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; ¹⁵ and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; ¹⁶ and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelled in the villages of the Netophathites. ¹⁷ And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brothers: Shallum was the chief; ¹⁸ who till now waited in the king's gate eastward: They were porters in the companies of the children of Levi. ¹⁹ And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: And their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry. ²⁰ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. ²¹ And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ²² All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office. ²³ So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards. ²⁴ In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. ²⁵ And their brothers, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them. ²⁶ For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. ²⁷ And they lodged all around the house of God, because the charge was on them, and its opening every morning pertained to them. ²⁸ And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale. ²⁹ Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. ³⁰ And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices. ³¹ And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans. ³² And other of their brothers, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the show-bread, to prepare it every Sabbath. ³³ And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: For they were employed in that work day and night. ³⁴ These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelled at Jerusalem. ³⁵ And in Gibeon dwelled the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah: ³⁶ And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab. ³⁷ And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. ³⁸ And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelled with their brothers at Jerusalem, in front of their brothers. ³⁹ And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. ⁴⁰ And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: And Meribbaal begat Micah. ⁴¹ And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz. ⁴² And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; ⁴³ and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. ⁴⁴ And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: These were the sons of Azel.

¹ And this is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.

⁶ Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal: And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said to him, "You know the thing that the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning me and you in Kadeshbarnea.

²⁴ And the woman said to Elijah, "Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.

¹ So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel. ² And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. ³ Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: And their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. ⁴ Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges: ⁵ Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith. ⁶ And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ⁷ Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei. ⁸ The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three. ⁹ The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. ¹⁰ And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. ¹¹ And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: But Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father's house. ¹² The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. ¹³ The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: And Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister to him, and to bless in His name forever. ¹⁴ Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi. ¹⁵ The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer. ¹⁶ Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief. ¹⁷ And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. ¹⁸ Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief. ¹⁹ Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. ²⁰ Of the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first and Jesiah the second. ²¹ The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish. ²² And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: And their brothers the sons of Kish took them. ²³ The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. ²⁴ These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward. ²⁵ For David said, "The LORD God of Israel has given rest to his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever: ²⁶ And also to the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for its service. ²⁷ For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above: ²⁸ Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God; ²⁹ both for the show-bread, and for the fine flour for food offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size; ³⁰ and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at sunset: ³¹ And to offer all burnt sacrifices to the LORD on the Sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before the LORD: ³² And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brothers, in the service of the house of the LORD.

¹ Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: And the number of the workmen according to their service was: ² Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king. ³ Of Jeduthun: The sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. ⁴ Of Heman: The sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: ⁵ All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. ⁶ All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. ⁷ So the number of them, with their brothers that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred eighty and eight. ⁸ And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar. ⁹ Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: The second to Gedaliah, who with his brothers and sons were twelve: ¹⁰ The third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹¹ The fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹² The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹³ The sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁴ The seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁵ The eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁶ The ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁷ The tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁸ The eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁹ The twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁰ The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²¹ The fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²² The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²³ The sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁴ The seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁵ The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁶ The nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve:

¹⁴ And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: The porters also by their courses at every gate: For so had David the man of God commanded.

⁴⁰ The Levites: The children of Jeshua and Kadmiel, of the children of Hodaviah, seventy and four.

¹⁰ And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel. ¹¹ And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks to the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endures forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

⁷ Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: And the people stood in their place.

⁸ Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was over the thanksgiving, he and his brothers. ⁹ Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brothers, were in front of them in the watches.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.

¹⁴ And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; ¹⁵ and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; ¹⁶ and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelled in the villages of the Netophathites. ¹⁷ And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brothers: Shallum was the chief;

³² And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brothers, in the service of the house of the LORD.

¹² Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.

¹⁵ To Obededom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim.

¹⁷ And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: And Bakbukiah the second among his brothers, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. ¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty and four. ¹⁹ Moreover the porters, Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers that kept the gates, were a hundred seventy and two.

⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights:

⁶ This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: And the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God on him.

¹¹ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel.

⁹ And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said to all the people, This day is holy to the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

¹¹ And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD your God has chosen to place his name there.

⁵ And the officers shall speak to the people, saying, "What man is there that has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

¹² And it was told king David, saying, "The LORD has blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertains to him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.

⁸ And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with tambourines, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

⁴ And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:

¹⁶ And David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers to be the singers with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.

²⁸ Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

⁵ Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: And Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;

⁴² and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.

⁵ Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

³¹ Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valor at Jazer of Gilead.

¹³ It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, "For he is good; for his mercy endures forever: That then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

⁶ And the priests waited on their offices: The Levites also with instruments of music of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endures forever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.

⁴ And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street, ⁵ and said to them, "Hear me, you Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place. ⁶ For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs. ⁷ Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel. ⁸ Why the wrath of the LORD was on Judah and Jerusalem, and he has delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as you see with your eyes. ⁹ For lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. ¹⁰ Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us. ¹¹ My sons, be not now negligent: For the LORD has chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that you should minister to him, and burn incense.

³⁰ Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise to the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped.

¹⁶ And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy.

¹⁵ And I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and there stayed we in tents three days: And I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi. ¹⁶ Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding. ¹⁷ And I sent them with commandment to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say to Iddo, and to his brothers the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God. ¹⁸ And by the good hand of our God on us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brothers, eighteen; ¹⁹ and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty; ²⁰ also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: All of them were expressed by name.

¹⁷ And all the congregation of those that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: For since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.

²⁰ And the residue of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance.

¹ A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol you, O LORD; for you have lifted me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.

¹ To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength: Make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob. ² Take a psalm, and bring the timbrel to this place, the pleasant harp with the psaltery. ³ Blow upward the trumpet in the new moon, at the time appointed, on our solemn feast day, ⁴ for this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

¹ A Psalm or Song for the Sabbath Day. It is a good thing to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High: ² To show forth Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night, ³ upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

⁴ Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. ⁵ Sing to the LORD with the harp, with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. ⁶ With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

¹ A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all you lands.praise; or, thanksgivingall you lands: In Hebrew, all the earth ² Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before His presence with singing.

³ Let them praise His name in the dance: Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

² Praise Him for His mighty acts: Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. ³ Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: Praise Him with the psaltery and harp. ⁴ Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs. ⁵ Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always: And again I say, Rejoice.

⁸ And when He had taken the book, the four beasts and twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, every one of them having harps, and golden vials full of incense, which are the prayers of saints.

⁵⁴ the sons of Salma; Bethlehem, and the Netophathites, Ataroth, the house of Joab, and half of the Manahethites, the Zorites.

¹⁶ and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelled in the villages of the Netophathites.

² That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

³⁰ Are they not on the other side of the Jordan, by the way where the sun goes down, in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the desert in front of Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?

⁹ And the LORD said to Joshua, "This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Why the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.

⁴³ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,

⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

²⁴ The children of Azmaveth, forty and two.

³¹ The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelled at Michmash, and Aija, and Bethel, and in their villages.

² Then Jacob said to his household, and to all that were with him, "Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

¹⁰ And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

¹⁵ And he said to the people, "Be ready against the third day: Do not come at your wives."

² this is the ordinance of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, and on which never came yoke: ³ And you shall give her to Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth outside the camp, and one shall slay her before his face: ⁴ And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times: ⁵ And one shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: ⁶ And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the middle of the burning of the heifer. ⁷ Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even. ⁸ And he that burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even. ⁹ And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up outside the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: It is a purification for sin. ¹⁰ And he that gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: And it shall be to the children of Israel, and to the stranger that sojourns among them, for a statute forever. ¹¹ He that touches the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days. ¹² He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: But if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean. ¹³ Whoever touches the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifies not himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: Because the water of separation was not sprinkled on him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet on him. ¹⁴ This is the law, when a man dies in a tent: All that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days. ¹⁵ And every open vessel, which has no covering bound on it, is unclean. ¹⁶ And whoever touches one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. ¹⁷ And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel: ¹⁸ And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent, and on all the vessels, and on the persons that were there, and on him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave: ¹⁹ And the clean person shall sprinkle on the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: And on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at sunset. ²⁰ But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: The water of separation has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.

⁵ and said to them, "Hear me, you Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.

³⁴ But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: Why their brothers the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had sanctified themselves: For the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.

²¹ And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves to them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the LORD God of Israel, ate,

²² And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your mercy.

³⁰ Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

¹ For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

³ And because of this he ought, as for the people so also for himself, to offer for sins.

¹ And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader.

¹ And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, to Jerusalem.

² Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

¹³ And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and its gates were consumed with fire.

¹³ The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and a thousand cubits on the wall to the dung gate. ¹⁴ But the dung gate repaired Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Bethhaccerem; he built it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars.

³⁸ And the other company of those that gave thanks went in front of them, and I after them, and the half of the people on the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even to the broad wall;

⁴⁰ So stood the two companies of those that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me:

² seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, ³ pashur, Amariah, Malchijah, ⁴ hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, ⁵ harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, ⁶ daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch, ⁷ meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,

² make you two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shall you make them: That you may use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps. ³ And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to you at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ⁴ And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. ⁵ When you blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward. ⁶ When you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: They shall blow an alarm for their journeys. ⁷ But when the congregation is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm. ⁸ And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance forever throughout your generations. ⁹ And if you go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresses you, then you shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and you shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. ¹⁰ Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.

⁴ And seven priests shall carry before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: And the seventh day you all shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

³⁹ And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea, ⁴⁰ the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchiah, ⁴¹ the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, ⁴² the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, ⁴³ the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.

² Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.

¹⁰ Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief); ¹¹ Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: All the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen.

¹² Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brothers, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets):

¹² And behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight you not against the LORD God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.

¹ Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

¹ These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of those that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king.

⁵ that chant to the sound of the viol, and invent instruments of music for themselves, like David;

⁷ Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion: The same is the city of David. ⁸ And David said on that day, Whoever gets up to the gutter, and smites the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Why they said, "The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. ⁹ So David dwelled in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built all around from Millo and inward.

¹⁴ Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king's pool: But there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.

¹⁵ But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and the wall of the pool of Siloah by the king's garden, and to the stairs that go down from the city of David. ¹⁶ After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Bethzur, to the place in front of the sepulchers of David, and to the pool that was made, and to the house of the mighty.

²⁶ Moreover the Nethinims dwelled in Ophel, to the place in front of the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lies out.

¹ And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

³ And he read in it before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

¹⁶ So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one on the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.

⁸ Next to him repaired Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, of the goldsmiths. Next to him also repaired Hananiah the son of one of the apothecaries, and they fortified Jerusalem to the broad wall.

¹¹ Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hashub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired the other piece, and the tower of the furnaces.

³¹ Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of those that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate:

¹³ And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Bethshemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

³ But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid its beams, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars.

⁶ Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.

²⁵ Palal the son of Uzai, in front of the turning of the wall, and the tower which lies out from the king's high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh.

³¹ After him repaired Malchiah the goldsmith's son to the place of the Nethinims, and of the merchants, in front of the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner. ³² And between the going up of the corner to the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants.

³⁸ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel to the gate of the corner.

² For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: And Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day", says the LORD, "that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

² Now there is a pool in Jerusalem by the sheep market, which is called Bethesda in the Hebrew tongue, having five porches.

³¹ Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of those that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate: ³² And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah,

⁴ When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me: For I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept the holy day.

⁶ Sing praises to God, sing praises: Sing praises to our King, sing praises. ⁷ For God is the King of all the earth: Sing praises with understanding. ⁸ God reigns over the heathen: God sits on the throne of His holiness. ⁹ The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: For the shields of the earth belong to God: He is greatly exalted.

¹⁴ and their brothers, mighty men of valor, a hundred twenty and eight: And their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of one of the great men.

¹ To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength: Make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.

¹ O come, let us sing to the LORD: Let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.

⁴ Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. ⁵ Sing to the LORD with the harp, with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. ⁶ With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. ⁷ Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who dwell in it. ⁸ Let the floods clap their hands: Let the hills be joyful together ⁹ before the LORD; for He comes to judge the earth: With righteousness He shall judge the world, and the people with equity.

⁵ Sing to the LORD; for He has done excellent things: This is known in all the earth. ⁶ Cry out and shout, you inhabitant of Zion: For great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of you.

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. ²¹ And Miriam answered them, "Sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; He has thrown the horse and his rider into the sea."

¹⁰ Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.

¹¹ then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall you bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to the LORD: ¹² And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates; for as much as he has no part nor inheritance with you.

⁵ And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.

²¹ And they sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, on the next day after that day, even a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel: ²² And ate and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

⁵ And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep: So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God. ⁶ And the priests waited on their offices: The Levites also with instruments of music of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endures forever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood. ⁷ Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: For there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the food offerings, and the fat.

¹⁰ And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had showed to David, and to Solomon, and to Israel His people.

¹³ And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

²⁷ Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

³⁵ And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order. ³⁶ And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: For the thing was done suddenly.

¹³ So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: For the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hides his face, who then can behold him? Whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

⁶ And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me: Therefore I will offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

⁷ The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: Therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song I will praise Him.

¹¹ You have turned for me my mourning into dancing: You have put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; ¹² to the end that my glory may sing praise to You, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

⁴ For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work: I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

¹¹ Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth: ¹² Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children: ¹³ Let them praise the name of the LORD: For His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.

³ to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.

¹⁰ "Rejoice all of you with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all you who love her: Rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn for her: ¹¹ That you may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that you may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory." ¹² For thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: Then you shall suck, you shall be borne on her sides, and be dandled on her knees. ¹³ As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." ¹⁴ And when you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like a herb: And the hand of the LORD shall be known toward His servants, and His indignation toward His enemies.

¹³ Then the virgin shall rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: For I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: For the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever": And of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first', said the LORD.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried out, saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David"; they were intensely displeased,

²² Therefore you now have sorrow: But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no man will take your joy from you.

¹⁹ speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

¹³ Is anyone among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is anyone of good cheer? Let him sing psalms.

¹⁰ And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: And the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

²⁴ this is it that belongs to the Levites: From twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: ²⁵ And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting on its service, and shall serve no more:

²⁶ For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

²⁸ Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

²¹ As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli. ²² The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD. ²³ Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites: ²⁴ And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures. ²⁵ And his brothers by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son. ²⁶ Which Shelomith and his brothers were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: ¹² Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brothers, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets):

¹¹ And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: The show-bread also set they in order on the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps, to burn every evening: For we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but you have forsaken him. ¹² And behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight you not against the LORD God of your fathers; for you shall not prosper.

¹¹ Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them, ¹² and brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: Over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was the next. ¹³ And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

³⁷ And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground to the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. ³⁸ And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: And the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house. ³⁹ For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the grain, of the new wine, and the oil, to the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: And we will not forsake the house of our God.

⁴ And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied to Tobiah: ⁵ And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where formerly they laid the food offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

¹² Then brought all Judah the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries. ¹³ And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: And next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: For they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute to their brothers.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

³¹ But those who wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

⁷ or ministry, let us attend to our ministering: Or he that teaches, in teaching;

⁶ But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and those that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: But all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.

¹ Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: And the number of the workmen according to their service was: ² Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king. ³ Of Jeduthun: The sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. ⁴ Of Heman: The sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: ⁵ All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. ⁶ All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. ⁷ So the number of them, with their brothers that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred eighty and eight. ⁸ And they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar. ⁹ Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: The second to Gedaliah, who with his brothers and sons were twelve: ¹⁰ The third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹¹ The fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹² The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹³ The sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁴ The seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁵ The eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁶ The ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁷ The tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁸ The eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ¹⁹ The twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁰ The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²¹ The fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²² The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²³ The sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁴ The seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁵ The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁶ The nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁷ The twentieth to Eliathah, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁸ The one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ²⁹ The two and twentieth to Giddalti, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ³⁰ The three and twentieth to Mahazioth, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve: ³¹ The four and twentieth to Romamtiezer, he, his sons, and his brothers, were twelve.

²¹ And behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. ²² Neither must the children of Israel from now on come near the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die. ²³ But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. ²⁴ But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering to the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: Therefore I have said to them, "Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance. ²⁵ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁶ thus speak to the Levites, and say to them, When you take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe. ²⁷ And this your heave offering shall be reckoned to you, as though it were the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the winepress. ²⁸ Thus you also shall offer a heave offering to the LORD of all your tithes, which you receive of the children of Israel; and you shall give of it the LORD's heave offering to Aaron the priest. ²⁹ Out of all your gifts you shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all its best, even the hallowed part of it out of it.

⁵ And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of grain, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly. ⁶ And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelled in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated to the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.

³⁵ And to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, to the house of the LORD: ³⁶ Also the firstborn of our sons, and of our domestic beasts, as it is written in the law, and the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, to the priests that minister in the house of our God:

²³ For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.

¹² And in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers: Of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah;

¹⁰ And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: For the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field. ¹¹ Then contended I with the rulers, and said, "Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place. ¹² Then brought all Judah the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries.

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you all have robbed Me. But you all say, 'In what have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. ⁹ You all are cursed with a curse: For you all have robbed Me, even this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, all of you, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now with this", says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open to you the windows of heaven, and pour out a blessing upon you, such that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

⁶ Let him that is taught in the word communicate to him that teaches in all good things.
