¹ Elihu also proceeded, and said, ² suffer me a little, and I will show you that I have yet to speak on God's behalf. ³ I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. ⁴ For truly my words shall not be false: He that is perfect in knowledge is with you. ⁵ Behold, God is mighty, and despises not any: He is mighty in strength and wisdom. ⁶ He preserves not the life of the wicked: But gives right to the poor. ⁷ He withdraws not his eyes from the righteous: But with kings are they on the throne; yes, he does establish them forever, and they are exalted. ⁸ And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction; ⁹ then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. ¹⁰ He opens also their ear to discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity. ¹¹ If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. ¹² But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. ¹³ But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: They cry not when he binds them. ¹⁴ They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean. ¹⁵ He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in oppression. ¹⁶ Even so would he have removed you out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no narrow place; and that which should be set on your table should be full of fatness. ¹⁷ But you have fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: Judgment and justice take hold on you. ¹⁸ Because there is wrath, beware lest he take you away with his stroke: Then a great ransom cannot deliver you. ¹⁹ Will he esteem your riches? No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength. ²⁰ Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. ²¹ Take heed, regard not iniquity: For this have you chosen rather than affliction. ²² Behold, God exalts by his power: Who teaches like him? ²³ Who has enjoined him his way? Or who can say, "You have worked iniquity? ²⁴ Remember that you magnify his work, which men behold. ²⁵ Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off. ²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. ²⁷ For he makes small the drops of water: They pour down rain according to its vapor: ²⁸ Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly. ²⁹ Also can any understand the spreading of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle? ³⁰ Behold, he spreads his light on it, and covers the bottom of the sea. ³¹ For by them judges he the people; he gives meat in abundance. ³² With clouds he covers the light; and commands it not to shine by the cloud that comes between. ³³ The noise of it shows concerning it, the domestic beasts also concerning the vapor.

¹⁶ And he shall be your spokesman to the people: And he shall be, even he shall be to you instead of a mouth, and you shall be to him instead of God.

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? And talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you accept his person? Will you contend for God?

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

⁶ Behold, I am according to your wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

³¹ Mark well, O Job, listen to me: Hold your peace, and I will speak. ³² If you have anything to say, "answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify you. ³³ If not, listen to me: Hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the LORD, "If you return, then I will bring you back again, and you shall stand before Me: And if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as My mouth: Let them return to you; but you must not return to them.

⁷ And you shall speak My words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: For they are most rebellious.

²⁰ Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God implored you through us: We make request of you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

²² And I beseech you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation: For I have written a letter to you in few words.

⁴ He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice?

¹² But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knows not its price; neither is it found in the land of the living.

²⁰ From where then comes wisdom? And where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. ²² Destruction and death say, "We have heard its fame with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven;

² Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: Against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

⁸ But there is a spirit in man: And the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.

⁵ For Job has said, "I am righteous: And God has taken away my judgment.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yes, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: He will not afflict.

⁷ For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

¹⁷ The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously?

⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You.

¹⁴ Therefore, the LORD has watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: For the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He does: For we did not obey His voice.

¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, ² saying, "Where is He that has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and have come to worship Him."

⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: For she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.

²⁷ And he arose and went: And behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, ²⁸ was returning; and sitting in his chariot read Isaiah the prophet. ²⁹ Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot." ³⁰ And Philip ran over to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you read?" ³¹ And he said, "How can I, unless some man should guide me?" And he desired that Philip would come up and sit with him. ³² The portion of the scripture which he read was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb mute before his shearer, so He did not open His mouth: ³³ In His humiliation His judgment was taken away: And who shall declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth." ³⁴ And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, "I beseech you, of whom does the prophet speak this? Of himself, or of some other man?" ³⁵ Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, preached Jesus to him. ³⁶ Moreover as they went on their way, they came to a certain body of water: And the eunuch said, "See, here is water; what does hinder me to be baptized?" ³⁷ And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." ³⁸ And he commanded the chariot to stand still: And they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. ³⁹ Moreover when they had come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch did not see him any more: And he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip was found at Azotus: And passing through he preached in all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.

²⁵ Whom God has set out to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ²⁶ to declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: That He might be just, and the justifier of him that believes in Jesus.

¹⁴ What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

⁶ But the righteousness which is of faith speaks like this, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who shall ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) ⁷ "Or, 'Who shall descend into the deep?' " (that is, to bring up Christ from the dead again). ⁸ But what does it say? "The word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart": That is, the word of faith, which we preach;

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all people liberally, and without suffering reproach; and it shall be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, nor shadow of turning.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

³ And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Your ways, You King of saints.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? And talk deceitfully for him?

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me.

³⁴ How then comfort you me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?

⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelled in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you; ¹¹ or darkness, that you cannot see; and abundance of waters cover you. ¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And you say, "How does God know? Can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood: ¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them? ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad: And the innocent laugh them to scorn. ²⁰ Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes. ²¹ Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace: By this good shall come to you. ²² Receive, I implore you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles. ²⁴ Then you shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yes, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you: And the light shall shine on your ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then you shall say, "There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent: And it is delivered by the pureness of your hands.

³ My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: And my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

¹⁶ Do you know the balancing of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

³ My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

²⁰ Have I not written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge, ²¹ that I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth; that you might answer the words of truth to those that send to you?

³ it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the beginning, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus,

²² And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, "When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost regarding your matter."

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in understanding: Yet in malice be children, but in understanding be men.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the Word of God: But out of sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.

¹⁴ How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, see, he is strong: And if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the ungodly?

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: Also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his.

¹² He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smites through the proud. ¹³ By his spirit he has garnished heaven; his hand has formed the crooked serpent. ¹⁴ See, these are parts of his ways: But how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand?

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

²⁴ For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hid His face from him; but when he cried out to Him, He heard.

⁴ The King's strength also loves judgment: You do establish equity, You execute judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly: But the proud He knows afar off.

⁵ Great is our LORD, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.

¹² He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has outstretched heaven by His discretion.

¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work: For Your eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men: To give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For you see your calling, brethren, how not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: ²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and base things of the world, and things which are despised, God has chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are:

²² You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁵ But he saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

²² Those that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nothing.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God on them.

³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: My judgment was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: And the cause which I did not know I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

¹² When He makes inquisition for blood, He remembers them: He does not forget the cry of the humble.

¹⁴ You have seen it; for You behold mischief and spite, to recompense it with Your hand: The poor commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man: Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

²³ But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, He shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

¹² For He shall deliver the needy when he cries; the poor also, and him that has no helper. ¹³ He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: And their blood shall be precious in his sight.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. ² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Defend the poor and fatherless: Do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

²² Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: And he shall smite the earth: With the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment to be punished:

⁶ "Hear us, my lord: You are a mighty prince among us: Bury your dead in any of our sepulchers that you choose; none of us shall withhold from you his sepulcher, to the end that you may bury your dead."

⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled: Only in the throne will I be greater than you."

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and He has set the world upon them.

¹³ He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: ¹⁵ But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. ¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: Your throne shall be established forever.

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: Therefore from now on you shall have wars.

³ For Mordecai the Jew was next to king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted out of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: For he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-donkeys.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy;

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

⁷⁰ He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: ⁷¹ From following the ewes that were pregnant with young, He brought him to feed Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance. ⁷² So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: His heart is stable, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies. ⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor. ¹⁰ The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: The desire of the wicked shall perish.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ that He may set Him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

¹⁷ The LORD your God is mighty in the midst of you; He will save, He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over you with singing."

³ But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.

¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers: But the face of the LORD is against those that do evil."

²⁷ You put my feet also in the stocks, and look narrowly to all my paths; you set a print on the heels of my feet.

⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net.

¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

⁵ The sorrows of hell compassed around me: The snares of death hindered me.

¹⁰ Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

³ The sorrows of death compassed around me, and the pains of hell took hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

⁹ He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone, He has made my paths crooked.

²¹ Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance: ²² But I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan: But you shall go over, and possess that good land.

¹¹ Why the LORD brought on them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, ¹³ and prayed to him: And he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.

² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me.

²⁵ For he stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the Almighty.

¹⁰ Destroy them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against You.

¹² Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of Your law;

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray: But now I have kept Your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Your statutes.

¹² For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us: For our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

³⁹ Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? ⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

²⁸ Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²⁹ Yet the house of Israel said, 'The way of the LORD is not equal.' O house of Israel, are not My ways equal? Are not your ways unequal? ³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away all your transgressions from you, by which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: For why will you die, O house of Israel?

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have enough bread with some to spare, yet I perish with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, ¹⁹ and am no longer worthy to be called your son: Make me as one of your hired servants." '

²⁰ Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

³² But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

¹⁶ then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷ that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty meat. ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yes, his soul draws near to the grave, and his life to the destroyers. ²³ If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man his uprightness:

¹⁵ He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in oppression.

⁶ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; You have opened my ears: Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make my words known to you.

⁴ "To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. ⁵ O you simple, understand wisdom: And, you fools, be of an understanding heart.

⁴ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here": As for him that wants understanding, she says to him, ⁵ "Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil; ¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. ¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together", said the LORD: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: ²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

⁸ Yes, you heard not; yes, you knew not; yes, from that time your ear was not opened: For I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD your God who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.

⁵ The Lord GOD has opened My ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

³ For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns. ⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: Lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings."

³ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, "Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. ⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, 'The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.' ⁵ For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor; ⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: ⁷ Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, forever and ever.

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits suitable for repentance:

¹⁹ Therefore repent, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord shall come;

¹⁴ Then a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, heard us: Whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended to the things which were spoken by Paul.

³⁰ Indeed, the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent:

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

³⁰ When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come on you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient to his voice;

¹³ If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward him; ¹⁴ if iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles. ¹⁵ For then you shall lift up your face without spot; yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: ¹⁶ Because you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: ¹⁷ And your age shall be clearer than the noonday: You shall shine forth, you shall be as the morning. ¹⁸ And you shall be secure, because there is hope; yes, you shall dig about you, and you shall take your rest in safety. ¹⁹ Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid; yes, many shall make suit to you.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

²¹ Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace: By this good shall come to you.

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles.

² All things come alike to all: There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice: As is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath. ³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event to all: Yes, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land:

²³ But this thing I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people: And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well to you.

¹³ Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you.

¹⁷ But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered to you.

⁸ By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out into a place which he should afterwards receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.'

¹⁵ The LORD your God will raise up to you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, similar to me; to him you shall listen; ¹⁶ according to all that you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, "Let me not hear the voice of the LORD my God again, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. ¹⁷ And the LORD said to me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. ¹⁸ I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brothers, like to you, and will put My words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. ²⁰ But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. ²¹ And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken? ²² When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously: You shall not be afraid of him.

¹⁵ but with him that stands here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day: ¹⁶ (For you know how we have dwelled in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which you passed by; ¹⁷ and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them): ¹⁸ Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood; ¹⁹ and it come to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst: ²⁰ The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie on him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

²¹ Does not their excellency which is in them go away? They die, even without wisdom.

²² He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "I go My way, and you shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins: The place I go you cannot come." ²² Then the Jews said, "Will He kill Himself? Because He says, 'The place I go you cannot come'?" ²³ And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. ²⁴ Therefore, I said to you that you shall die in your sins: For if you do not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins."

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

¹⁴ And behold, you are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

¹³ and said to them, "You shall not bring in the captives here: For whereas we have offended against the LORD already, you intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: For our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.

²² And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: This is that king Ahaz.

⁴ Yes, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: They cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty. ¹⁰ But none said, "Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night;

⁸ And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction;

¹² And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you treasure up for yourself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁵ And they called to Lot, and said to him, "Where are the men which came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them."

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; ²⁵ and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

⁷ And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. ⁸ And Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother." ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother. ¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: For this reason he slew him also.

¹ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. ² And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

¹⁷ There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. ²⁵ And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, and never eats with pleasure.

¹⁶ Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood:

⁸ Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

¹⁰ He opens also their ear to discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.

⁸ He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.

¹⁰ And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: Also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. ¹¹ Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house: And they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought on him: Every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: For he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-donkeys. ¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: And their father gave them inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

¹⁹ He also brought me forth into a large place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me.

⁵ You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

⁸ and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: You have set my feet in a large room.

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Your house; and You shall make them drink of the river of Your pleasures.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. ² He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings forth. ³ And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God: Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips:

⁵ I called upon the LORD in distress: The LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

⁶ And in this mountain the LORD of hosts shall make a feast of fat things to all people, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹⁴ "Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably to her.

⁵ But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should assuage your grief.

¹¹ or darkness, that you cannot see; and abundance of waters cover you.

⁸ Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men.

³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men.

³² Who knowing the judgment of God, that those who commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in those that do them.

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, that you are not partakers of her sins, and that you do not receive of her plagues.

²⁴ Then he is gracious to him, and said, "Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

⁵ Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and all you perish from pursuing the way, when His wrath is kindled only a little. Blessed are all those that put their trust in Him.

¹⁰ Remove Your stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of Your hand.

⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever):

⁵ The LORD at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.

⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

¹⁶ "Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke: Yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears run down.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who withhold the truth in unrighteousness;

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: For because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience.

⁶ who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect such great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those that heard Him;

¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

²⁰ In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: And the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of an army: A mighty man is not delivered by much strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety: Neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: But righteousness delivers from death.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath: But righteousness delivers from death.

²¹ Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

²⁰ In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: For He shall even make a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the land.

³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.

²⁹ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of domestic beasts.

³⁵ And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

²⁰ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul; ²¹ which long for death, but it comes not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;

⁹ Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

¹⁵ So that my soul chooses strangling, and death rather than my life.

¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness. ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: To the worm, You are my mother, and my sister.

²⁵ Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death.

³ If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth: And if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be.

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁵ that he may take part in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place."

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water? ⁸ Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

³ For you said, "What advantage will it be to you? And, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him who comes according to the multitude of his idols;

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not anxious to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If that is the case, our God Whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

¹⁰ Now when Daniel knew the writing document was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be cast into hell.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while: Then when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he is offended.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

⁴⁰ And they agreed with him: And when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ Therefore they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

¹⁷ Indeed it is better, if it is the will of God, that you suffer for well doing, than for doing evil.

¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, as a thief, as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. ¹⁶ Yet if any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this respect.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: He brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and He has set the world upon them.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the wild beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

⁷ But God is the judge: He puts down one, and sets up another.

¹⁰ He that chastens the heathen, shall He not correct? He that teaches man knowledge, shall not He know?

⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers.

¹³ And all your children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of your children.

⁵ 'I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me. ⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and I have also given him the wild beasts of the field to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish', said the LORD, 'with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

³⁸ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel to the gate of the corner.

²⁵ That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor:

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted those of low degree.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught of God.' Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes to Me.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but from God: The powers that be are ordained by God.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹³ Who has given him a charge over the earth? Or who has disposed the whole world? ¹⁴ If he set his heart upon man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ all flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust. ¹⁶ If now you have understanding, hear this: Listen to the voice of my words. ¹⁷ Shall even he that hates right govern? And will you condemn him that is most just? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: And the mighty shall be taken away without hand. ²¹ For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God. ²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead. ²⁵ Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others; ²⁷ because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways: ²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted. ²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hides his face, who then can behold him? Whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only: ³⁰ That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared. ³¹ Surely it is meet to be said to God, "I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: ³² That which I see not teach you me: If I have done iniquity, I will do no more. ³³ Should it be according to your mind? He will recompense it, whether you refuse, or whether you choose; and not I: Therefore speak what you know.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being His counselor Has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and showed to Him the way of understanding?

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.)

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?"

¹⁶ "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

¹¹ In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the counsel of His own will:

¹⁹ And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD your God has divided to all nations under the whole heaven.

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: Also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counsellors away spoiled, and makes the judges fools. ¹⁸ He looses the bond of kings, and girds their loins with a girdle. ¹⁹ He leads princes away spoiled, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty. ²² He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and destroys them: He enlarges the nations, and straitens them again. ²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to stagger like a drunken man.

⁵ Dead things are formed from under the waters, and its inhabitants. ⁶ Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering. ⁷ He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth on nothing. ⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them. ⁹ He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it. ¹⁰ He has compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end. ¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. ² Day to day utters speech, and night to night shows knowledge. ³ There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. ⁴ Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,line; or, rule, or, direction

⁵ Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up.

³ O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.

¹⁶ But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning: For You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.

¹⁸ Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things.

⁸ Among the gods there is none like You, O LORD; neither are there any works like Your works. ⁹ All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O LORD; and shall glorify Your name. ¹⁰ For You are great, and do wondrous things: You are God alone.

⁴ For You, LORD, have made me glad through Your work: I will triumph in the works of Your hands. ⁵ O LORD, how great are Your works! And Your thoughts are very deep.

²⁴ O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all: The earth is full of Your riches.

⁸ Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

² The works of the LORD are great, sought out by all those who have pleasure in them. ³ His work is honorable and glorious: And His righteousness endures forever. ⁴ He has made His wonderful works to be remembered: The LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

⁸ They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

⁵ Yes, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: For great is the glory of the LORD.

¹⁰ All Your works shall praise You, O LORD; and Your saints shall bless You. ¹¹ They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power; ¹² to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

³ How great are His signs! And how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation."

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: And those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

⁴⁶ Then Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord,

²⁷ But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built?

⁵ Are your days as the days of man? Are your years as man's days,

⁷ Can you by searching find out God? Can you find out the Almighty to perfection? ⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? Deeper than hell; what can you know? ⁹ The measure of it is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

¹⁴ See, these are parts of his ways: But how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand?

⁵ God thunders marvelously with his voice; great things does he, which we cannot comprehend.

² Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

²⁴ I said, "O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days: Your years are throughout all generations. ²⁵ Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth: And the heavens are the work of Your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but You shall endure: Yes, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture You shall change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But You are the same, and Your years shall have no end.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.

⁸ But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

⁵ and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: For the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. ⁶ But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

⁹ Which does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:

³³ The noise of it shows concerning it, the domestic beasts also concerning the vapor.

²⁵ Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; ²⁶ to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸ Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?

³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?

⁹ You visit the earth, and water it: You greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water: You prepare them grain, when You have so provided for it. ¹⁰ You water its ridges abundantly: You settle its furrows: You make it soft with showers: You bless its springing. ¹¹ You crown the year with Your goodness; and Your paths drop fatness. ¹² They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: And the little hills rejoice on every side. ¹³ The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys are also covered over with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.

⁸ Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.

⁸ Fire, and hail; snow and vapor; stormy wind fulfilling His word:

⁶ And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? Or can heaven give showers? Are you not He, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait on you: For you have made all these things.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. ¹² And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

⁹ When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling cloth for it,

³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

¹³ The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: The God of glory thunders: The LORD is upon many waters. ⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. ⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yes, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ He also makes them to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. ⁷ The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of the LORD makes the hinds to calve, and discovers the forests: And in His temple every one speaks of His glory. ¹⁰ The LORD sits upon the flood; yes, the LORD sits King forever.

¹⁶ The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You; they were afraid: The depths also were troubled. ¹⁷ The clouds poured out water: The skies sent out a sound: Your arrows also went abroad. ¹⁸ The voice of Your thunder was in the heaven: The lightning lightened the world: The earth trembled and shook. ¹⁹ Your way is in the sea, and Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps are not known.

³ Who lays the beams of His chambers in the waters: Who makes the clouds His chariot: Who walks upon the wings of the wind:

⁷ At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

¹⁰ The mountains saw You, and they trembled: The overflowing of the water passed by: The deep uttered its voice, and lifted up its hands on high.

⁹ And God said, "Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear": And it was so.

²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground: And the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left.

²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there did not remain so much as one of them.

⁴ Pharaoh's chariots and his army He has cast into the sea: His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. ⁵ The depths have covered them: They sank into the bottom as a stone.

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹ When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling cloth for it, ¹⁰ and broke up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, "Till now shall you come, but no further: And here shall your proud waves be stayed?

¹¹ He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion all around Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. ¹² At the brightness that was before Him, His thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail stones and coals of fire. ¹⁴ Yes, He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot out lightning, and discomfited them. ¹⁵ Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. ¹⁶ He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

⁵ Who establishes the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed forever. ⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a garment: The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away. ⁸ They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which You have founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁴ For as the lightning, that flashes out of one part under heaven, shines to the other part under heaven; so also shall the Son of Man be in His day.

¹⁷ And behold, I, even I, am bringing a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

² And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or no.

¹⁵ who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;

¹¹ And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven on them to Azekah, and they died: They were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

¹⁰ The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven He shall thunder upon them: The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and He shall give strength to His king, and exalts the horn of His anointed."

¹⁰ And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: But the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and crushed them; and they were beaten before Israel.

¹⁸ So Samuel called to the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: And all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

¹³ He causes it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

²² Have you entered into the treasures of the snow? Or have you seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

²⁶ to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

¹³ He waters the hills from His chambers: The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works. ¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the domestic beasts, and herbs for the service of man: That he may bring forth food out of the earth; ¹⁵ and wine that makes glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart.

²⁷ These all wait upon You; that You may give them their food in due season. ²⁸ That which you give them they gather: You open Your hand, they are filled with good.

²⁵ Who gives food to all flesh: For His mercy endures forever.

¹⁷ Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

²¹ And the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt." ²² And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days: ²³ They did not see one another, neither did anyone rise from his place for three days: But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

⁹ He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.

¹² And it is turned all around by his counsels: That they may do whatever he commands them on the face of the world in the earth.

¹⁵ Do you know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

¹¹ He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion all around Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

⁷ He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.

⁸ Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains. ⁹ He gives to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

²⁰ Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay upon us, all hope that we would be saved was by then taken away.

¹⁴ The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

⁴¹ And Elijah said to Ahab, "Get you up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. ⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down on the earth, and put his face between his knees, ⁴³ and said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, "There is nothing. And he said, "Go again seven times.

²⁹ Also can any understand the spreading of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

² Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goes out of his mouth.

⁴ Because the ground is beat down, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads. ⁵ Yes, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass. ⁶ And the wild donkeys stood in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes failed, because there was no grass.

¹⁸ How the beasts groan! The herds of domestic beasts are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

²² Do not be afraid, you wild beasts of the field: For the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree bears her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
