¹ Furthermore Elihu answered and said, ² hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge. ³ For the ear examines words, as the mouth tastes food.mouth: In Hebrew, palate ⁴ Let us choose to us judgment: Let us know among ourselves what is good. ⁵ For Job has said, "I am righteous: And God has taken away my judgment. ⁶ Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression. ⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water? ⁸ Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God. ¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yes, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. ¹³ Who has given him a charge over the earth? Or who has disposed the whole world? ¹⁴ If he set his heart upon man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ all flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again to dust. ¹⁶ If now you have understanding, hear this: Listen to the voice of my words. ¹⁷ Shall even he that hates right govern? And will you condemn him that is most just? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: And the mighty shall be taken away without hand. ²¹ For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God. ²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead. ²⁵ Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others; ²⁷ because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways: ²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted. ²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hides his face, who then can behold him? Whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only: ³⁰ That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared. ³¹ Surely it is meet to be said to God, "I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: ³² That which I see not teach you me: If I have done iniquity, I will do no more. ³³ Should it be according to your mind? He will recompense it, whether you refuse, or whether you choose; and not I: Therefore speak what you know. ³⁴ Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man listen to me. ³⁵ Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom. ³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men. ³⁷ For he adds rebellion to his sin, he clapps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.

⁵ A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels:

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in understanding: Yet in malice be children, but in understanding be men.

³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? Cannot my taste discern perverse things?

¹¹ Does not the ear try words? And the mouth taste his meat?

³⁰ Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

² Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue has spoken in my mouth.

¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man.

¹⁴ But solid food belongs to those that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

³⁰ And it was so, that all that saw it said, "There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day: Consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

⁷ Behold, you are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.

³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men.

² And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; ³ and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: And he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: ⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: And he shall smite the earth: With the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. ⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

²⁴ Do not judge according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."

² And do not be conformed to this world: But be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

² Do you not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? ³ Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more things that pertain to this life? ⁴ If then you have judgments of things pertaining to this life, appoint those to judge who are least esteemed in the church. ⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? No, not even one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

¹¹ But when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain ones came from James, he ate with the Gentiles: But when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; so that even Barnabas was also carried away with their dissimulation. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles, and not do as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as do Jews?

²¹ Prove all things; hold tight that which is good.

¹⁷ For he breaks me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause.

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

⁴ For you have said, "My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes.

¹⁷ not for any injustice in my hands: Also my prayer is pure.

² as God lives, who has taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who has vexed my soul;

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: My judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

¹ So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

⁹ I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

¹³ His archers compass me all around, he splits my reins asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground.

⁴ my lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: Till I die I will not remove my integrity from me. ⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: My heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

¹⁹ and it come to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:

¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinks iniquity like water?

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁰ But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? And when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

⁵ For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

¹⁵ Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

¹ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.ungodly; or, wicked

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers.

¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. ¹³ Truly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence. ¹⁴ For all the day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning. ¹⁵ If I say, "I will speak thus"; behold, I should offend against the generation of your children.

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:

¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things;

¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³³ Do not be deceived: "Evil communications corrupt good manners."

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked. ²³ If the whip slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

³⁰ If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean; ³¹ yet shall you plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him? ¹⁶ See, their good is not in their hand: The counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them?

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

³ For you said, "What advantage will it be to you? And, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

⁴ Delight yourself also in the LORD: And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

¹⁴ You all have said, 'It is vain to serve God: And what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

²⁵ Far be it from You to do hurt in this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: And that the righteous should be as the wicked, far be it from You: Shall the Judge of all the earth not do right?"

⁴ He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

⁷ Why now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: For there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor reverence of persons, nor taking of gifts.

³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice?

³⁴ Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man listen to me.

²³ Who has enjoined him his way? Or who can say, "You have worked iniquity?

²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: He will not afflict.

¹⁵ to show that the LORD is upright: He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

³² But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: He that does it destroys his own soul.

³² He that refuses instruction despises his own soul: But he that hears reproof gets understanding.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously?

⁴ God forbid: Moreover, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, "That You might be justified in Your sayings, and might overcome when You are judged." ⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.)

¹⁴ What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God": For God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does He tempt any man:

²⁶ He shall pray to God, and he will be favorable to him: And he shall see his face with joy: For he will render to man his righteousness.

¹² Also to you, O Lord, belongs mercy: For you render to every man according to his work.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

¹² if you say, "Behold, we did not know it"; does He that ponders the heart not consider it? And He that keeps your soul, does He not know it? And shall He not render to every man according to his works?

¹⁹ great in counsel, and mighty in work: For Your eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men: To give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

¹⁷ Yet the children of your people say, 'The way of the Lord is not equal': But as for them, their way is not equal. ¹⁸ When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, for that he shall even die. ¹⁹ But if the wicked turns from his wickedness, and does that which is lawful and right, for that he shall live. ²⁰ Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not equal.' O you house of Israel, I will judge everyone of you after his ways."

²⁷ For the Son of Man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works.

⁶ who "will render to every man according to his deeds":

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to what he has done, whether it is good or bad.

⁷ Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: For whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without reverence of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

¹² "And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with Me, to give every man according to as his work shall be.

⁷ For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

¹⁷ The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

¹² Are You not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, You have ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, You have established them for correction. ¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity: Why do You look upon those that deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?

¹¹ Yours, O LORD is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: For all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; your is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

⁴ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. ⁵ Who has laid its measures, if you know? Or who has stretched the line on it? ⁶ Whereupon are its foundations fastened? Or who laid the corner stone of it; ⁷ when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹ When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling cloth for it, ¹⁰ and broke up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, "Till now shall you come, but no further: And here shall your proud waves be stayed? ¹² Have you commanded the morning since your days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; ¹³ that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? ¹⁴ It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment. ¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withheld, and the high arm shall be broken. ¹⁶ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the search of the depth? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? ¹⁸ Have you perceived the breadth of the earth? Declare if you know it all. ¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwells? And as for darkness, where is its place, ²⁰ that you should take it to its bound, and that you should know the paths to its house? ²¹ Know you it, because you were then born? Or because the number of your days is great? ²² Have you entered into the treasures of the snow? Or have you seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, which scatters the east wind on the earth? ²⁵ Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder; ²⁶ to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸ Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary white frost of heaven, who has has gendered it? ³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. ³¹ Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? ³² Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or can you guide Arcturus with his sons? ³³ Know you the ordinances of heaven? Can you set its dominion in the earth? ³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send lightning, that they may go and say to you, Here we are? ³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the heart? ³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can stay the bottles of heaven, ³⁸ when the dust grows into hardness, and the clods stuck fast together? ³⁹ Will you hunt the prey for the lion? Or fill the appetite of the young lions, ⁴⁰ when they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait? ⁴¹ Who provides for the raven his food? When his young ones cry to God, they wander for lack of meat.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous? ⁹ Do you have an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like Him? ¹⁰ Deck yourself now with majesty and excellency; and array yourself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of your wrath: And behold everyone that is proud, and abase him.

²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or before the earth ever was. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth: ²⁶ While as yet He had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When He prepared the heavens, I was there: When He set a compass upon the face of the depth: ²⁸ When He established the clouds above: When He strengthened the fountains of the deep: ²⁹ When He gave to the sea His decree, that the waters should not pass His commandment: When He appointed the foundations of the earth: ³⁰ Then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him: And I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him;

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being His counselor Has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and showed to Him the way of understanding?

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?"

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?" ³⁵ "Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed to him again?" ³⁶ For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: To whom be glory forever. Amen.

¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him? And that you should set your heart on him?

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

²⁹ You hide Your face, they are troubled: You take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited.

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked.

⁹ Remember, I beseech you, that you have made me as the clay; and will you bring me into dust again?

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

³ You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men." ⁴ For a thousand years in Your sight are as only yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. ⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: In the morning they are like grass which grows up. ⁶ In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers. ⁷ For we are consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. ⁹ For all our days are passed away in Your wrath: We spend our years as a tale that is told. ¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their strength is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

⁷ Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

⁴ Fury is not in Me: Who would set the briers and thorns against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, neither will I always be wroth: For the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yes, who knows not such things as these?

² What you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior to you. ³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! And it should be your wisdom. ⁶ Hear now my reasoning, and listen to the pleadings of my lips.

²¹ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, "Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?

³ The God of Israel said, "the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.) ⁶ God forbid: For how then shall God judge the world? ⁷ For if the truth of God has abounded more through my lie to His glory; why am I still also judged as a sinner?

²⁸ You shall not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of your people.gods; or, judges

²⁶ Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.

³ Then Paul said to him, "God shall smite you, you whitened wall: For you sit to judge me according to the law, and do you command me to be beaten contrary to the law?"

⁵ Then Paul said, "I was not aware, brethren, that he was the high priest: For it is written, 'You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.' "

⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: Tribute to whom tribute is due; customs to whom customs; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹⁰ But especially those that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. They are presumptuous, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.

⁸ Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise government, and speak evil of dignitaries.

¹⁵ You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: You shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: But in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regards not persons, nor takes reward:

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the ungodly?

¹⁹ He leads princes away spoiled, and overthrows the mighty.

²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty.

⁸ Will you accept his person? Will you contend for God?

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁹ Will he esteem your riches? No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, ³ "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us." ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: The LORD shall have them in derision.

⁶ Those that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

² The rich and poor meet together: The LORD is the maker of them all.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of His people, and with their princes: "For you have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, "Truly I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

¹¹ For there is no reverence of persons with God.

⁶ But from those who seemed to be something (whatever they were, it does not matter to me: God accepts no man's person): For those who seemed to be something while in conference added nothing to me:

⁹ And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatening: Knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there reverence of persons with Him.

²⁵ But he that does wrong shall receive due reward for the wrong which he has done: And there is no reverence of persons.

²⁸ Therefore, we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?

²⁹ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of domestic beasts. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died. ³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, "Blessed be the LORD, that has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept His servant from evil: For the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head." And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife.

¹⁰ David furthermore said, "As the LORD lives, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

²⁰ Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory He shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may list them.

¹³ Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant."

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones. ³¹ For through the voice of the LORD the Assyrian shall be beaten down, who smote with a rod. ³² And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with timbrels and harps: And He will fight with it in battles of shaking. ³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; He has made it deep and large: Its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.Tophet; or, Hell

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty and five thousand: And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁴ You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

⁴⁴ And in the days of these kings the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: And the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. ⁴⁵ In as much as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass in time to come: And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure."

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

⁶ Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, saying, 'Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit', says the LORD of hosts.

⁶ And at midnight a cry was made, 'Behold, the bridegroom comes; go out to meet him.'

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so also shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give glory to God: And he was eaten by worms, and gave up the ghost.

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

¹³ And she called the name of the LORD that spoke to her, You are 'God that sees me': For she said, "Have I also looked here at Him that sees me?"

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: Therefore from now on you shall have wars.

⁴ Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts:

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his goings.

³ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

¹⁷ For My eyes are on all their ways: They are not hid from My face, neither is their iniquity hid from My eyes.

¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

⁸ Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob", says the LORD.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell on it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: If one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

³ Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

⁵ The foolish shall not stand in Your sight: You hate all workers of iniquity.

¹¹ If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me." ¹² Yes, the darkness does not hide from You; but the night shines as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

²⁹ The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: But destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

² The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: Those that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, on them the light has shined.

¹⁵ Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, "Who sees us?" and "Who knows us?"

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places such that I shall not see him?" said the LORD. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" said the LORD.

² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they hide from My sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

²³ And then I will profess to them, 'I never knew you: Depart from me, you that work iniquity.'

²⁷ But He shall say, 'I tell you, I do not know you, nor what place you belong; depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.'

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: But all things are naked and uncovered to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to give account.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

¹³ And after all that is come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this;

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment. ³³ Neither is there any judge between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

⁶ and that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹¹ For he knows vain men: He sees wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yes, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

¹³⁷ TZADDI: You are righteous, O LORD, and Your judgments are upright.

³ A bruised reed He shall not break, and the smoking flax He shall not quench: He shall bring forth judgment to truth.

⁵ Thus says the LORD, "What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and have become vain?

⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him;

²⁰ No rather, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"

³⁰ For which reason the LORD God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever': But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me; for those that honor Me I will honor, and those that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. ³¹ Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house. ³² And you shall see an enemy in My habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: And there shall not be an old man in your house forever. ³³ And the man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from My altar, shall be to consume your eyes, and to grieve your heart: And all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age. ³⁴ And this shall be a sign to you, that shall come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die, both of them. ³⁵ And I will raise Myself up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in My heart and in My mind: And I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before My anointed forever. ³⁶ And it shall come to pass, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and crouch down to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, "Put me, I implore you, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread." ' "

²⁸ And Samuel said to him, "The LORD has tore the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, that is better than you.

⁷ Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, For as much as I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel, ⁸ and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it you: And yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept My commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes;

¹⁴ Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: But what? Even now.

² how long will you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

⁹ You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.' "

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people, He shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

⁵ They break Your people in pieces, O LORD, and afflict Your heritage.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ that He may set Him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

²⁰ "You are my battle ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and his rider; ²² with you I will also break in pieces man and woman; and with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maid; ²³ I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers.

²¹ And He changes the times and the seasons: He removes kings, and sets up kings: He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those that know understanding:

³⁴ You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, were broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

²⁰ In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: And the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

¹⁵ He fashions their hearts alike; He considers all their works.

⁸ They all hold swords, being expert in war: Every man has his sword on his thigh because of fear in the night.

¹ The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;

¹⁸ "For I know their works and their thoughts: It shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see My glory.

² And they do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: Now their own doings have beset them on every side; they are before My face.

⁷ The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, "Surely I will never forget any of their works.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

³⁰ In this manner the LORD saved Israel out of the hand of the Egyptians that day; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore.

⁹ But you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And you shall stone him with stones, that he die; because he has sought to thrust you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. ¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: So shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

¹¹ Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For you did it secretly: But I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance: He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ So that a man shall say, "Truly there is a reward for the righteous: Truly He is a God that judges in the earth."

²⁴ "And they shall go forth, and look on the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me: For their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh."

²⁰ Rebuke those that sin before everyone, that others also may fear.

²⁴ Some men's sins are clearly evident, going before them to judgment; and the evidence against some men follows afterwards.

⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.'

²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her."

¹¹ "It repents Me that I have set up Saul to be king: For he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments." And it grieved Samuel; and he cried out to the LORD all night.

⁵ Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up.

⁴³ Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

⁵ As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity: But peace shall be upon Israel.

²⁹ For they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: But Israel does not know, my people do not consider.

¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tambourine, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: But they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of His hands.

⁶ and those that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for Him."

¹⁵ And now, I implore you, consider from this day onward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD: ¹⁶ Ever since those days, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but only ten: When one came to the fat-press to draw out fifty vessels from the press, there were but only twenty.20 measures was equivalent to 9 gallons, 3 quarts; or approximately 36.9 liters ¹⁷ I smote you with blasting, and with mildew, and with hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you all have not turned to Me', says the LORD. ¹⁸ 'Now consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it. ¹⁹ Is the seed still in the barn? Yes, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not brought forth: From this day forward I will bless you.' "

³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: And he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. ³² Remember Lot's wife.

³⁸ But Paul did not think it would be good to take him with them, who departed from them at Pamphylia, and did not go with them to the work.

¹⁰ For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back to perdition; but of those that believe to the saving of the soul.

²³ And it came to pass in the process of time, that the king of Egypt died: And the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

⁷ And the LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

⁹ Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me: And I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. ²⁵ If you lend money to any of My people that are poor by you, you shall not be to him as an usurer, neither shall you lay upon him usury. ²⁶ If you take any of your neighbor's clothing to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by that time the sun goes down: ²⁷ For that is his only covering, it is his clothing for his skin: In what shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he cries to Me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you;

¹² Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded cries out: Yet God lays not folly to them.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: They cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

⁵ "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise", says the LORD; "I will set him in safety from he that puffs at him."puffs at him; or, would ensnare him

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

¹ And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest all around from all his enemies;

⁹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it. ¹⁰ And at the end of three years they took it: Even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken. ¹¹ And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes: ¹² Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. ¹⁷ Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: He gave them all into his hand.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: ⁹ On the left hand side, where he does work, but I cannot behold him: He hides himself on the right hand side, that I cannot see him:

¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desires, even that he does.

¹ Moreover Job continued his parable, and said, ² oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; ³ when his candle shined on my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

¹ How long will You forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

⁹ Do not hide Your face far from me; do not put Your servant away in anger: You have been my help; do not leave me, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

⁷ LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong: You hid Your face, and I was troubled.

⁷ Hear me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails: Do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those that go down into the pit.

³ And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard bondage in which you were made to serve, ⁴ that you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city ceased!" ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. ⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders. ⁷ The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: They break forth into singing. ⁸ Yes, the fir trees rejoice at you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, "Since you are laid down, no woodcutter has come up against us."

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: Because he trusts in You.

¹⁷ And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.

⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish', said the LORD, 'with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you: Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ³² He that did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not together with Him also freely give us all things? ³³ Who shall blame God's elect? It is God that justifies. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, now rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

²⁸ Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said to them, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: Behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. ³⁰ And this thing became a sin: For the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.

⁹ But they did not hearken: And Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than did the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the children of Israel.

²¹ For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his goings.

⁸ The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

² When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: But when the wicked bears rule, the people mourn. ³ Whoever loves wisdom rejoices his father: But he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance. ⁴ The king by judgment establishes the land: But he that receives gifts overthrows it. ⁵ A man that flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: But the righteous does sing and rejoice. ⁷ The righteous considers the cause of the poor: But the wicked does not care to know it. ⁸ Scornful men bring a city into a snare: But wise men turn away wrath. ⁹ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest. ¹⁰ The bloodthirsty hate the upright: But the just seek his soul. ¹¹ A fool utters all his mind: But a wise man keeps it in till afterwards. ¹² If a ruler hearkens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war: But one sinner destroys much good."

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.

¹¹ I gave you a king in My anger, and took him away in My wrath.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and you walk in their counsels; that I should make you a desolation, and its inhabitants a hissing: Therefore all of you shall bear the reproach of My people."

⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself as though he is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now you know what withholds, that he might be revealed in his time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work: Only He who now holds back will impede, until He be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then that Wicked one shall be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming: ⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

³ And I saw one of his heads, how it was wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: And all the world wondered after the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: And they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

¹¹ Then I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the power of the first beast before him, and causes the earth and those that dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ And he does great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, ¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived.

⁴¹ and that I also have walked contrary to them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

¹³ And after all that is come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this; ¹⁴ should we again break your commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? Would not you be angry with us till you had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?

³³ However, you are just in all that is brought on us; for you have done right, but we have done wickedly: ³⁴ Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies, with which you did testify against them. ³⁵ For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and fat land which you gave before them, neither turned they from their wicked works. ³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it: ³⁷ And it yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: Also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our domestic beasts, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress. ³⁸ And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal to it.

²⁷ He looks on men, and if any say, "I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

³ Then Job answered the LORD, and said, ⁴ behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: Yes, twice; but I will proceed no further.

⁶ For which reason I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.'

⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing, that they might not obey Your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. ¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: For under the whole heaven it has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us: Yet we did not make our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand Your truth. ¹⁴ Therefore, the LORD has watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: For the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He does: For we did not obey His voice.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause, and executes judgment for me: He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness.

² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the wild beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

¹² Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.

⁴ Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. ⁵ Lead me in Your truth, and teach me: For You are the God of my salvation; upon You I wait all the day long.

⁸ "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go: I will guide you with My eye.guide you with My eye: In Hebrew; counsel you, My eye shall be upon you

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: ²⁴ And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

⁸ Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I do trust in You: Cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul to You. ⁹ Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies: I flee to You to hide me. ¹⁰ Teach me to do Your will; for You are my God: Your Spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

¹³ He that covers his sins shall not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. ⁹ And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: Every tree therefore which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire." ¹⁰ Therefore the people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?" ¹¹ He answered and said to them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise." ¹² Then publicans also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Master, what shall we do?" ¹³ And he said to them, "Require no more than that which is appointed to you." ¹⁴ Likewise the soldiers demanded of him, saying, "And what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do violence to no man, nor accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages."

²² That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

²⁵ Therefore, putting away lying, "every man speak truth with his neighbor": For we are members of one another. ²⁶ "Be angry, and do not sin": Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath: ²⁷ Neither give place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more: But rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needs.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What do you?

³¹ Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: For vanity shall be his recompense.

⁴ He tears himself in his anger: Shall the earth be forsaken for you? And shall the rock be removed out of his place?

⁵ If you can answer me, set your words in order before me, stand up.

³² If you have anything to say, "answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify you.

¹¹ For the work of a man shall he render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

¹¹ Who has prevented me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.

³⁰ If his children forsake My law, and do not walk in My judgments; ³¹ if they break My statutes, and do not keep My commandments; ³² then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

⁶ Whatever the LORD pleased, that He did in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

³¹ Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: Much more the wicked and the sinner.

⁹ Woe to him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him who fashions it, 'What are you making?' Or your work, 'He has no handles?'

¹² saying, 'These last have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have carried the burden and heat of the day.' ¹³ But he answered one of them, and said, 'Friend, I do you no wrong: Did you not agree with me for a silver coin? ¹⁴ Take what is yours, and go your way: I will give to this last, even as to you. ¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is your eye evil because I am good?'

³⁵ "Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed to him again?"

⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you; ⁷ and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,

² For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: For he had respect for the recompense of the reward.

² hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge.

⁴ Let us choose to us judgment: Let us know among ourselves what is good.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁶ If now you have understanding, hear this: Listen to the voice of my words.

² What you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior to you.

² should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

¹⁶ Therefore does Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge.

² who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

³ Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and those that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power?

¹⁶ For God makes my heart soft, and the Almighty troubles me:

¹ Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do those that know him not see his days?

⁸ Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

³ You have proved my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have examined me, and shall find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

² Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; essay my inner reins and my heart.

¹¹ Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the ending of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king."

² how long will you speak these things? And how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind? ³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice?

² should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? And when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

² even today is my complaint bitter: My stroke is heavier than my groaning.

²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

² think you this to be right, that you said, "My righteousness is more than God's? ³ For you said, "What advantage will it be to you? And, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: ²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.
