¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, ² therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste. ³ I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer. ⁴ Do you not know this of old, since man was placed on earth, ⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his excellency mount up to heaven, and his head reach to the clouds; ⁷ yet he shall perish forever like his own dung: They which have seen him shall say, "Where is he? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: Yes, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him. ¹⁰ His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods. ¹¹ His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust. ¹² Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue; ¹³ though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth: ¹⁴ Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him. ¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. ¹⁶ He shall suck the poison of asps: The viper's tongue shall slay him. ¹⁷ He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter. ¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: According to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice in it. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. ²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: Terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come on him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: For they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according to as the LORD commanded them: The LORD also accepted Job.

² if we assay to commune with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

¹⁹ Who is he that will plead with me? For now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.

³ I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

¹³ Lest you should say, "We have found out wisdom: God thrusts him down, not man. ¹⁴ Now he has not directed his words against me: Neither will I answer him with your speeches. ¹⁵ They were amazed, they answered no more: They left off speaking. ¹⁶ When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more); ¹⁷ I said, "I will answer also my part, I also will show my opinion. ¹⁸ For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constrains me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles. ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

²² For I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before Your eyes": Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried out to You.

² I was mute with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. ³ My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: Then I spoke with my tongue,

¹¹ I said in my haste, "All men are liars."

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: But he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

²⁰ See a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

⁹ Do not be hasty to be angry in your spirit: For anger rests in the bosom of fools.

⁹ Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name." But His word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

²⁵ And she came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked it, saying, "I desire that without delay you give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter."

² For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

³ These ten times have you reproached me: You are not ashamed that you make yourselves strange to me.

²⁹ Be you afraid of the sword: For wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that you may know there is a judgment.

² therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.

¹¹ I will teach you by the hand of God: That which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

³ My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: And my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

³ My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

² I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: ³ Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He has done. ⁵ For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: And have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth."

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. ² And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every wild beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moves upon the earth, and upon all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. ³ Every moving thing that lives shall be meat for you; even as the green herb I have given you all things.

⁸ For inquire, I implore you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow):

⁷ I said, "Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹⁶ The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: But the earth He has given to the children of men.

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.' ¹⁰ You blew with Your wind, the sea covered them: They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. ²² However, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. ²³ Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice: For they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy Samson into our hand." ²⁴ And when the people saw him, they praised their god: For they said, "Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us." ²⁵ And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, "Call for Samson, that he may make us sport." ¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. ¹² Haman said moreover, Yes, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow am I invited to her also with the king.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation.

¹² Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it wither before any other herb. ¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

¹⁹ Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong its perfection on the earth. ³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away. ³¹ Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: For vanity shall be his recompense. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: And his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: He opens his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away, and he departs: And as a storm hurles him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast on him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

²¹ Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord', shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father which is in heaven.

²⁰ But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the word, and immediately receives it with joy; ²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while: Then when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he is offended.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, "It is the voice of a god, and not of a man." ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give glory to God: And he was eaten by worms, and gave up the ghost.

⁴ But let every man prove his own work, and then he shall have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

¹⁶ But now you rejoice in your boastings: All such rejoicing is evil.

⁴ And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth."

¹³ For you have said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in uttermost sides of the north: ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."

¹¹ The tree grew, and was strong, and the height of it reached to heaven, and the sight of it to the end of all the earth:

²² It is you, O king, that are grown and have become strong: For your greatness has grown, and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down:

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, 'Who shall bring me down to the ground?' ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there", says the LORD.

²³ And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, shall be brought down to hell: For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

¹⁰ Therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man takes away dung, till it be all gone.

³⁷ And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, "This is Jezebel.

²⁰ They are destroyed from morning to evening: They perish forever without any regarding it.

¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁸ If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, "I have not seen you.

¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: Yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he?

¹⁰ Who perished at Endor: They became as dung for the earth.

² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: They shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹⁰ And He rode upon a cherub, and flew: Yes, He flew upon the wings of the wind.

²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: In the morning they are like grass which grows up.

⁷ And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her fortification, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. ⁸ It shall even be as when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he wakes, and his soul is empty: Or as when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he wakes, and behold, he is faint, and his soul has appetite: So shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against Mount Zion.

⁸ The eye of him that has seen me shall see me no more: Your eyes are on me, and I am not.

⁷ yet he shall perish forever like his own dung: They which have seen him shall say, "Where is he?

³ all the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yes, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place where it was shall know it no more.

² For if you refuse to let them go, and will hold them still,

³⁶ And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent to them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

¹ "If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.sheep; or, goat

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death.

¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness: Because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness any more, until I have caused My fury to rest on you.

²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war: And they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be on their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, "I go My way, and you shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins: The place I go you cannot come."

²⁴ Therefore, I said to you that you shall die in your sins: For if you do not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins."

²⁵ that he may take part in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place."

⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate, and also gave to her husband with her; and he ate.

¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinks iniquity like water?

⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: Under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: As he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing as with a garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

¹⁷ "Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant." ¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

¹⁷ Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹⁸ And say you to the people, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and you shall eat flesh: For you have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, "Who shall give us flesh to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt: Therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and you shall eat. ¹⁹ You shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; ²⁰ but even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome to you: Because that you have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, "Why came we forth out of Egypt?

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be cast into hell.

⁴³ And if your hand causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life maimed, than to go into hell having two hands, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to be cast into hell having two feet, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out: It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to be cast into hell fire having two eyes: ⁴⁸ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁹ For everyone shall be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt.

¹³ For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: But if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

²⁴ They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts on them, with the poison of dragons, of the dust.

² And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king's house: And from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look on. ³ And David sent and inquired after the woman. ¹ A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath: Neither chasten me in Your hot displeasure. ² For Your arrows stick fast in me, and Your hand presses me sore. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. ⁷ For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: And there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

⁸ Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which You have broken may rejoice. ⁹ Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

²⁰ Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: And drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has babbling? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? ³⁰ Those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives his color in the cup, when it moves itself aright. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder. ³³ Your eyes shall behold strange women, and your heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ Yes, you shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ "They have stricken me", you shall say, "and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I did not feel it: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again."

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

² If you all will not hear, and if you all will not lay it to heart, to give glory to My name", says the LORD of hosts, "I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: Yes, I have cursed them already, because you all do not lay it to heart.

¹³ "Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have used deceit"; "the poison of asps is under their lips":

⁸ The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your sweet words.

³ Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, when he saw that He was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, ⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to that."

⁶ The burden of the wild beasts of the south: Into the land of trouble and anguish, from where comes the young and old lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³ Moreover, when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. ⁴ Now when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not permit him to live." ⁵ But he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. ⁶ Nevertheless, they looked in expectation that he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: But after they had looked for a long while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

²³ surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those that provoked me see it:

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; ¹⁴ butter of cows, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and you did drink the pure blood of the grape.

²⁹ and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: For they said, "The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

² Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, "Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.

⁶ when I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of Your house; and You shall make them drink of the river of Your pleasures. ⁹ For with You is the fountain of life: In Your light we shall see light.

¹⁶ He would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat: And with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied them."

¹⁵ He shall eat butter and honey, that He may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

²² and it shall come to pass, he shall eat butter from the abundance of milk that they shall give: For everyone shall eat the butter and honey that is left in the land.

¹⁷ When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

⁶ For he shall be like the shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land that is not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and which spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaves shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, nor shall cease from yielding fruit.

²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

¹⁰ His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

²⁵ if I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of tambourine ceases, the noise of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: Every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

¹⁵ What has My beloved to do in My house, seeing she has worked lewdness with many, and the holy flesh has passed from you? When you do evil, then you rejoice. ¹⁶ The LORD called your name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: With the noise of a great tumult He has kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; who uses his neighbor's service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work;

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicates, he has cast me out.

⁴⁴ And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up: And the nations shall not flow together to him any more: Yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: They hiss and gnash the teeth: They say, "We have swallowed her up: Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it."

¹² The time has come, the day draws near: Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: For wrath is upon all their multitude.

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: It has no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: If per chance it does yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. ⁸ Israel is swallowed up: Now they shall be among the Gentiles as a vessel in which is no pleasure.

¹ O Israel, rejoice not for joy, as other people do: For you have gone a whoring from your God, you have loved a reward upon every grain floor.

⁴ Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

²⁴ You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall a nation which you know not eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always:

³ Behold, here I am: Witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? And I will restore it to you. ⁴ And they said, "You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything owed from any man's hand."

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, Have you killed, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your blood, even yours.

¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For you say, "Where is the house of the prince? And where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed of it. ³ They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge. ⁴ They turn the needy out of the way: The poor of the earth hide themselves together. ⁵ Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: The wilderness yields food for them and for their children. ⁶ They reap every one his grain in the field: And they gather the vintage of the wicked. ⁷ They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold. ⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter. ⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor. ¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry; ¹¹ which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst. ¹² Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded cries out: Yet God lays not folly to them.

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb); ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

³⁸ If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise of it complain; ³⁹ if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: They cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

¹⁸ To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more.

⁵ "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise", says the LORD; "I will set him in safety from he that puffs at him."puffs at him; or, would ensnare him

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

²² Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: And behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. ⁸ Woe to those that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the land!

³⁴ To crush under His feet all the prisoners of the earth.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: Yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, "Bring forth, and let us drink." ² The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that He will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks. ³ And you shall go out at the breaches in the walls, every cow following that which is before her; and you shall cast them into the palace", says the LORD.

² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: So they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.oppress; or, defraud

⁹ You all have cast out the women of My people from their pleasant houses; from their children all of you have taken away My glory forever.women; or, wives

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹³ For he that has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.

⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners of them to their hurt. ¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil travail: And he begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ "There is no peace", said my God, "for the wicked."

²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong its perfection on the earth.

¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

¹¹ As the partridge sits on eggs, and does not hatch them; so he who gets riches not rightly, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool."

²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

² And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

⁷ The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

⁵ Behold, You have made my days as a hand-breadth; and my age is as nothing before you: Truly every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor in which I toiled under the sun: Because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity. ²⁰ Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labor which I took under the sun.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets.

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.'

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: And the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

⁶ Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: This shall be the portion of their cup.

³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me.

¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have no room where to stow my fruits?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will stow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

³⁵ He teaches my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell on twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life.

¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the middle of the pit shall be taken in the snare: For the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

⁴³ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon you, O inhabitant of Moab", said the LORD. ⁴⁴ "He who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that gets up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: For I will bring upon it, even on Moab, the year of their visitation", said the LORD.

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: And He said, "Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: And cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: He that flees from them shall not flee away, and he that escapes from them shall not be delivered.cut; or, wound ² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they hide from My sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those that hate me.

¹⁴ Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with you. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the middle of the oak.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.

¹³ His archers compass me all around, he splits my reins asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night.

¹² If he does not turn, He will whet his sword; He has bent His bow, and made it ready.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth on up: I am distracted while I suffer Your terrors.

³ And it came to pass on the next day, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name Pashur, but Magormissabib. ⁴ For thus says the LORD, 'Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends: And they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall behold it: And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I also trust are made manifest in your consciences.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger: The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: Neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be continually be before the LORD, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth

⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

²² And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

²⁰ You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. ²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. ²² For I will rise up against them", says the LORD of hosts, and cut off the name from Babylon, and remnant, and son, and nephew", says the LORD.

³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; He has made it deep and large: Its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.Tophet; or, Hell

¹² Whose fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the granary; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

¹³ raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

²⁸ Gather to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.

¹⁸ O earth, cover not you my blood, and let my cry have no place.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or outstretched our hands to a strange god; ²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

²¹ For, behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: The earth also shall disclose her blood, and will no longer cover her slain.

²³ because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken lying words in My name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness', said the LORD.

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; nor hid, that shall not be known. ³ Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

¹⁶ in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: Your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: Your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to rescue them.

¹⁷ Behold, the days come, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, shall be carried into Babylon: Nothing shall be left", says the LORD.

⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.

¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: According to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice in it. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him.

³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹⁴ If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: And his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: He opens his eyes, and he is not.

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath: But righteousness delivers from death.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: For He shall even make a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the land.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.

¹⁷ For in one hour so many riches have come to naught.' And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

²⁰ The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie on him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: ²² So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, "when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD has laid on it; ²³ and that the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: ²⁴ Even all nations shall say, "Why has the LORD done thus to this land? What means the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, "Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: ²⁶ For they went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given to them: ²⁷ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book: ²⁸ And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

² For what portion of God is there from above? And what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

⁵ The LORD proves the righteous through testing: But His soul hates the wicked and him that loves violence. ⁶ Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: This shall be the portion of their cup.

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High does not evil and good proceed?

⁵¹ and shall cut him apart, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
