Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil? ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Have not you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face. ¹² And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only on himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. ¹³ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house: ¹⁴ And there came a messenger to Job, and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them: ¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house: ¹⁹ And behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ²⁰ Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshiped, ²¹ and said, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. ²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

²³ And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

¹ And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be perfect.

¹² And he said, "Do not lay your hand upon the lad, neither do anything to him: For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from Me."

³ I beseech you, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil?

³ And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil? And still he holds fast his integrity, although you moved me against him, to destroy him without cause.

¹¹ My foot has held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹ I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think on a maid? ² For what portion of God is there from above? And what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hurried to deceit; ⁶ let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know my integrity. ⁷ If my step has turned out of the way, and my heart walked after my eyes, and if any blot has stuck to my hands; ⁸ then let me sow, and let another eat; yes, let my offspring be rooted out. ⁹ If my heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbor's door; ¹⁰ then let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down on her. ¹¹ For this is a heinous crime; yes, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges. ¹² For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase. ¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb); ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, You are my confidence; ²⁵ if I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ if I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand: ²⁸ This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: For I should have denied the God that is above. ²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him: ³⁰ Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! We cannot be satisfied. ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street: But I opened my doors to the travelers. ³³ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom: ³⁴ Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? ³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book. ³⁶ Surely I would take it on my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. ³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him. ³⁸ If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise of it complain; ³⁹ if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life: ⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, I do hate.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: And by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwell in the land of Uz; the cup shall also pass through to you: You shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked.

¹⁴ Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver only their own souls by their righteousness", said the Lord GOD.

²⁰ Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live", said the Lord GOD, "they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall deliver only their own souls by their righteousness."

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

¹¹ Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the ending of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.

¹¹ Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters.

³⁸ He also blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and does not permit their domestic beasts to decrease.

²³ Shall not their domestic beasts and their substance and every beast of their's be our's? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.

⁷ And he took up his parable, and said, "Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, "Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

³² And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, ³³ and three score and twelve thousand beeves, ³⁴ and three score and one thousand donkeys,

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: For there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

² And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

⁴ And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep master, and rendered to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

¹⁰ Also he built towers in the desert, and dig many wells: For he had much domestic beasts, both in the low country, and in the plains: Farmers also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: For he loved husbandry.

²⁹ Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: For God had given him substance very much.

⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelled as a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: For he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-donkeys.

²² The blessing of the LORD, it makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

¹ A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

¹ Let brotherly love continue.

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.

⁵ And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD.

³ If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: He shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD. ⁴ And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. ⁵ And he shall kill the bull before the LORD: And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood all around upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ⁶ And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces.

¹⁰ And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: And this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; ¹¹ and the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. ⁵ And he said, "Peaceably: I have come to sacrifice to the LORD: Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice." And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

³¹ And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, "Israel shall be your name:

¹⁰ And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, "You did blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. ²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: By reason of breakings they purify themselves.

⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: For him will I accept: Lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

³ You shall hear my voice in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and will look up.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: Who can know it? ¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."

⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before Him, all the days of our life.

⁷ And shall not God avenge His own elect, who cry day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?

⁵⁵ And the Jews' Passover was near at hand: And many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

²² Therefore repent of this, your wickedness, and beseech God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

²⁶ Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them, entered into the temple to signify the completion of the days of purification, at which time an offering should be offered for every one of them.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word.

²⁵ He answered and said, "Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

¹ And He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

¹⁰ Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.

⁴³ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places seeking rest, and finds none.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour:

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹² Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time." ¹³ Then when the dragon saw that he was cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man Child. ¹⁴ But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. ¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

⁸ and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: The number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were on the face of the earth).

⁷ My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all my house. ⁸ With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

¹⁵ But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable to the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants bore rule over the people: But so did not I, because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

²⁰ Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked. ²³ If the whip slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls on God, and he answers him: The just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁸ Upright men shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite. ⁹ The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

¹⁴ If he set his heart upon man, if he gather to himself his spirit and his breath;

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: For him will I accept: Lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

²³ I also was upright before Him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. The transgression of the wicked said within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: He will not withhold any good thing from those that walk uprightly.

²⁰ I have found David My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him:

¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

¹ Behold My servant, whom I uphold; My elect, in whom My soul delights; I have put My spirit on Him: He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

⁴ And the man said to me, "Son of man, behold with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you; because you were brought to this place for the intent that I might show them to you: Declare all that you see to the house of Israel."

³⁹ Moreover one of the criminals which was hanged railed at Him, saying, "If You are Christ, save Yourself and us." ⁴⁰ But the other answering rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"

²¹ and said, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

¹⁰ "Who is there among you that would even shut the doors for free? Neither do you all kindle fire on My altar for free. I have no pleasure in you", says the LORD of hosts, "Neither will I accept an offering from your hand.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁸ For bodily exercise profits little: But godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceedingly great reward."

¹² Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold: And the LORD blessed him.

³⁰ For it was little which you had before I came, and it is now increased to a multitude; and the LORD has blessed you since my coming: And now when shall I provide for my own house also?

⁴³ And the man increased exceedingly, and had much domestic beasts, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and donkeys.

⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

²⁵ Even by the God of your father, Who shall help you; and by the Almighty, Who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:

¹³ And he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you: He will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which He swore to your fathers to give you.

² And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken to the voice of the LORD your God. ³ Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. ⁴ Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your domestic beasts, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ⁵ Blessed shall be your basket and your store. ⁶ Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

¹¹ Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; smite through the loins of those that rise against him, and of those that hate him, that they rise not again.

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: And he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, "Destroy them.

¹⁶ They were a wall to us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

⁶ when I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

²⁵ if I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

¹² For You, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will compass around him, as with a shield.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps all around those that fear Him, and delivers them.

²¹ You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.

¹² Why then have You broken down her hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck her?

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: And establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, the work of our hands, You establish it.

¹ A Song of degrees. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways. ² For you shall eat the labor of your hands: Happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you. ³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: Your children like olive plants all around your table. ⁴ Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

² And He fenced it, and gathered out the stones of it, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the middle of it, and also made a winepress in it: And He expected that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

⁵ And now come; I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall of it, and it shall be trodden down:

⁵ For I', says the LORD, 'will be to her a wall of fire all around, and will be the glory in the midst of her.' "

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts; "After the glory, He has sent me to the nations which plundered you: For he that touches you touches the apple of His eye.

⁵ who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹¹ And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, "He that touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death."

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

¹² And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only on himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

⁵ But now it is come on you, and you faint; it touches you, and you are troubled.

²¹ Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

¹⁵ saying, "Do not touch My anointed, and do My prophets no harm."

²⁵ Therefore the anger of the LORD is kindled against His people, and He has stretched forth His hand against them, and has smitten them: And the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

²¹ And they shall pass through it, severely distressed and hungry: And it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

¹³ "Your words have been stout against Me", says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken so boldly against You?' ¹⁴ You all have said, 'It is vain to serve God: And what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which has power over these plagues: And they did not repent to give Him glory.

¹¹ and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

²¹ And there fell upon men a large hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: And men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague of this was exceedingly great.1 attic talent weighed 56 pounds 11 ounces English troy weight, or ~25.7 kilograms.

⁶ But Abram said to Sarai, "Behold, your maid is in your hand; do to her as it pleases you." And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her face.

²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. ⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face. ⁶ And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your hand; but save his life. ⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: You shall restrain the remainder of wrath.

⁸ In measure, when Israel shoots forth, You will debate with it: He maintains His rough wind in the day of the east wind.

⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, "Behold, he is in your hand: For the king is not he who can do anything against you."

³² Moreover there was a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: And they implored Him that He would permit them to enter into them. And He permitted them. ³³ Then the devils went out of the man, and entered into the swine: And the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.

³¹ And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: ³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith does not fail: And when you are converted, strengthen your brethren."

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. ³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me, unless it was given you from above: Therefore he that delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

¹³ There is no temptation that has taken you except such as is common to man: But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able; but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, the messenger of Satan to wound me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

⁴ And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹ Do not boast yourself of tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

¹² For man also does not know his time: As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it suddenly falls on them.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

³⁴ Also take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you when unaware.

¹⁷ And the messenger answered and said, "Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken."

¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying, "The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

³¹ One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

⁷ And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: And the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

²⁸ and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

³ And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar informed David that Saul had slain the LORD's priests.

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹⁹ And behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹⁹ The troops of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba waited for them.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: The kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹⁴ Thus says the LORD, "The labor of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you, and they shall be yours: They shall come after you; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down to you, they shall make supplication to you, saying, 'Surely God is in you; and there is none else, there is no other God.' "

⁴² And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: And with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, who put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns on their heads.

⁸ And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: For the LORD has spoken it.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²⁸ Entreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer."

²⁴ And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed on the altar the burnt offering and the fat: Which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

² And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

¹ And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: And the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed those that were in the uttermost parts of the camp. ² And the people cried out to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah: Because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

¹⁵ And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: The garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: So it was a very great trembling.

³⁸ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

¹⁰ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² And Elijah answered and said to them, "If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁴ Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: Therefore let my life now be precious in your sight.

⁴ Thus has the Lord GOD showed to me: And behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and ate up a part.

¹³ And he does great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

²⁸ And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with him from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran, and dwelled there.

³ And David said to him, "From where have you come?" And he said to him, "I have escaped out of the camp of Israel."

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

¹³ Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, until the Assyrian founded it for those that dwell in the wilderness: They set up its towers, they raised up its palaces; and he brought it to ruin.

⁶ For lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not their's.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant.

¹³ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house:

² oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: Therefore my words are swallowed up.

¹⁴ He breaks me with breach on breach, he runs on me like a giant.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: And my hope has he removed like a tree.

² even today is my complaint bitter: My stroke is heavier than my groaning.

¹⁴ If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

² All things come alike to all: There is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that does not sacrifice: As is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: For morning by morning it shall pass over, by day and by night: And it shall be a terror only to understand the report.

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is done to me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger.

⁶ "And I have also given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and a want of bread in all your places: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD. ⁷ "And I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months until the harvest: And I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: One piece of land was rained upon, and the piece of land upon which it did not rain withered. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered to one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD. ⁹ "I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: When your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD. ¹⁰ "I have sent the pestilence among you after the manner of Egypt: I have slain your young men with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up to your nostrils: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD.after the manner; or, in the way ¹¹ "I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: Yet you have not returned to Me", says the LORD.

³² and they sent forth the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father; and said, "We have found this: Do you know now whether it is your son's coat or not?" ³³ And he knew it, and said, "It is my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Without doubt Joseph is torn in pieces."

³⁶ And their father Jacob said to them, "You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is not here, and will you take Benjamin away: All these things are against me."

³⁰ And Samson said, "Let me die with the Philistines." And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were in it. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than those which he slew in his life.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: And as he went, thus he said, "O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell on twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

¹¹ At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "A dry wind of the high places blows in the wilderness toward the daughter of My people, not to fan, nor to cleanse, ¹² even a full wind from those places shall come to Me: Now I will also give sentence against them.

²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: And great was the fall of it."

¹ There were present in that season some that told Him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answering said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were sinners more than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, do you think that they were sinners more than all other men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish."

⁴ Now when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not permit him to live."

² in which you walked in time past according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:

²⁹ And Reuben returned to the pit; and behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ And Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁶ David therefore sought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: But he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. ¹⁸ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: For they said, "Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not listen to our voice: How will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? ¹⁹ But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: Therefore David said to his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, "He is dead. ²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped: Then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate.

³ And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD on the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped, and praised the LORD, saying, "For he is good; for his mercy endures forever.

³ And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonished.

³⁹ And He went a little further, fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me: Nevertheless not as I will, but as You will."

⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time:

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: And he said, "Am I in God's stead, Who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

⁵ Now therefore do not be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: For God sent me before you to preserve life.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: He brings low, and lifts up.

¹⁸ And Samuel told him every word, and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD: Let Him do what seems good to Him."

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

¹⁵ Why the king did not hearken to the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, "which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁹ Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. And he said, "Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?

¹ A Psalm of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

⁹ I was dumb, I did not open my mouth; because you did it.

¹⁷ for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him.

³⁸ But You have cast off and abhorred, You have been very angry with Your anointed. ³⁹ You have made void the covenant of Your servant: You have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All who pass by the way plunder him: He is a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have set up the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice. ⁴³ You also have turned the edge of his sword, and have not made him to stand in the battle. ⁴⁴ You have made his glory to cease, and have thrown his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ You have shortened the days of his youth: You have covered him with shame. Selah. ⁴⁶ How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Shall Your wrath burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Remember how short my time is: Why have You made all men in vain? ⁴⁸ What man is he that lives, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. ⁴⁹ Lord, where are Your former lovingkindnesses, which You swore to David in Your truth? ⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants; how I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; ⁵¹ with which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD; with which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed. ⁵² Blessed be the LORD forevermore. Amen, and Amen.

¹⁵ As he came forth from his mother's womb, naked shall he return, to go as he came, and shall take nothing from his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁹ Also every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

⁷ Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

¹⁵ Why do you glorify the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea.

²⁴ Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the LORD, He against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, neither were they obedient to His law.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create calamity: I the LORD do all these things.

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High does not evil and good proceed?

⁶ Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD has not done it?

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is your eye evil because I am good?'

²⁸ to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel determined beforehand to be done.

²⁰ giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁸ In everything give thanks: For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, nor shadow of turning.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

⁴ behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: Yes, twice; but I will proceed no further. ⁶ Then answered the LORD to Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ⁷ gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you to me. ⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

²⁰ No rather, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"

⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and whole, lacking nothing.

¹² Blessed is the man that endures temptation: For when he is approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found to praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
