¹⁴ You shall not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers, or of your strangers that are in your land within your gates:

³⁵ And if your brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with you; then you shall relieve him: Yes, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with you. ³⁶ Take you no usury of him, or increase: But fear your God; that your brother may live with you. ³⁷ You shall not give him your money on usury, nor lend him your food for increase. ³⁸ I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God. ³⁹ And if your brother that dwells by you be waxen poor, and be sold to you; you shall not compel him to serve as a bondservant: ⁴⁰ But as a hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with you, and shall serve you to the year of jubilee. ⁴¹ And then shall he depart from you, both he and his children with him, and shall return to his own family, and to the possession of his fathers shall he return. ⁴² For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: They shall not be sold as servants. ⁴³ You shall not rule over him with rigor; but shall fear your God.

¹² And if your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, be sold to you, and serve you six years; then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. ¹³ And when you send him out free from you, you shall not let him go away empty: ¹⁴ You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, and out of your floor, and out of your winepress: Of that with which the LORD your God has blessed you you shall give to him. ¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you: Therefore I command you this thing today. ¹⁶ And it shall be, if he say to you, I will not go away from you; because he loves you and your house, because he is well with you; ¹⁷ then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. And also to your maidservant you shall do likewise. ¹⁸ It shall not seem hard to you, when you send him away free from you; for he has been worth a double hired servant to you, in serving you six years: And the LORD your God shall bless you in all that you do.

¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry; ¹¹ which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.

⁷ that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: And a man and his father will go in to the same maid, to profane My holy name:

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, "Bring forth, and let us drink."

⁴ Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give: For the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
