⁴ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept His commandments, and their lies caused them to err, the same errors after which their fathers have walked:

¹⁴ But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments; ¹⁵ and if you shall despise My statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that you will not do all My commandments, but that you break My covenant:

¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them. ¹⁷ Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come on us, because our God is not among us? ¹⁸ And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have worked, in that they are turned to other gods.

¹⁵ But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: You are waxen fat, you are grown thick, you are covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. ¹⁶ They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. ¹⁸ Of the Rock that begat you you are unmindful, and have forgotten God that formed you. ¹⁹ And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. ²⁰ And he said, "I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. ²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. ²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. ²³ I will heap mischiefs on them; I will spend my arrows on them. ²⁴ They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts on them, with the poison of dragons, of the dust. ²⁵ The sword outside, and terror inside, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. ²⁶ I said, "I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men: ²⁷ Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, "Our hand is high, and the LORD has not done all this.

¹¹ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: ¹² And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were all around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked the LORD to anger. ¹³ And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. ¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. ¹⁵ Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, "and as the LORD had sworn to them: And they were greatly distressed. ¹⁶ Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. ¹⁷ And yet they would not listen to their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves to them: They turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so. ¹⁸ And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: For it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of those that oppressed them and vexed them. ¹⁹ And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way. ²⁰ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, "Because that this people has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not listened to my voice;

⁶ And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.

⁹ Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹⁹ Also Judah kept not the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

¹¹ And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he tore his clothes. ¹² And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying, ¹³ "Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: For great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us." ¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelled in Jerusalem in the college); and they communed with her.wardrobe: In Hebrew, garments ¹⁵ And she said to them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me, ¹⁶ 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read: ¹⁷ Because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched." '

⁷ And be not you like your fathers, and like your brothers, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as you see.

¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. ¹⁷ Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: He gave them all into his hand.

⁷ We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which you commanded your servant Moses.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their backs, and slew your prophets which testified against them to turn them to you, and they worked great provocations.

²⁹ and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law: Yet they dealt proudly, and did not hearken to your commandments, but sinned against your judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them); and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear. ³⁰ Yet many years did you forbear them, and testified against them by your spirit in your prophets: Yet would they not give ear: Therefore gave you them into the hand of the people of the lands.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: Because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. ²⁵ Therefore the anger of the LORD is kindled against His people, and He has stretched forth His hand against them, and has smitten them: And the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the middle of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is outstretched still.

¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail. ¹⁶ For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and those that are led by them are destroyed.

¹⁵ Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with hell we are in agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: For we have made lies our refuge, and we have hid ourselves under falsehood:"

²⁰ He feeds on ashes: A deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

¹⁹ Hear, O earth: Behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor to My law, but rejected it.

² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: They shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.

⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁴ but have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:"

²⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will punish all those who are circumcised with the uncircumcised; ²⁶ egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all who are in the utmost corners, who dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart."

¹² and you have done worse than your fathers; for behold, all of you walk after the imagination of his evil heart, everyone, that they may not listen to Me:

¹⁹ O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth, and shall say, "Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit." ²⁰ Shall a man make gods to himself, and they are not gods?

¹³ "And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused My people Israel to err. ¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies: They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness; they are, all of them, as Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; 'Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: For from the prophets of Jerusalem has profaneness gone forth into all the land.' "

²⁵ "I have heard what the prophets said, "who prophesy lies in My name, saying, 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed.' ²⁶ How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Yes, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; ²⁷ who think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal. ²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?" said the LORD. ²⁹ "Is not My word like as a fire?" said the LORD; "and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? ³⁰ Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets", said the LORD, "who steal My words, everyone, from his neighbor. ³¹ Behold, I am against the prophets", said the LORD, "who use their tongues, and say, 'He said.' ³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams", said the LORD, "and do tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I did not send them, nor commanded them: Therefore they shall not profit this people at all", said the LORD.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD has not sent you; but you make this people trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; 'Behold, I will cast you from off the face of the earth: This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.' "

⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, 'The LORD said': And the LORD has not sent them: And they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. ⁷ Have you not seen a vain vision, and have you not spoken a lying divination, whereas you say, 'The LORD said it'; albeit I have not spoken?" ⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you", said the Lord GOD. ⁹ And My hand shall be on the prophets who see vanity, and who divine lies: They shall not be in the assembly of My people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD. ¹⁰ Because, even because they have seduced My people, saying, "Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar: ¹¹ Say to those who daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: There shall be an overflowing shower; and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. ¹² See, when the wall has fallen, shall it not be said to you, 'Where is the daubing with which you have daubed it?' " ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even rend it with a stormy wind in My fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in My anger, and great hailstones in My fury to consume it. ¹⁴ So I will break down the wall that you have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and you shall be consumed in its midst: And you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish My wrath upon the wall, and on those who have daubed it with untempered mortar, and will say to you, 'The wall is no more, neither are they who daubed it'; ¹⁶ to wit, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace", said the Lord GOD.

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

¹ Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ² "Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, ³ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem; "Your birth and your nativity is of the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for your nativity, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, neither were you washed in water to supple you; you were not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you; but you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person, in the day that you were born. ⁶ And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live'; yes, I said to you when you were in your blood, 'Live.' ⁷ I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and become great, and you have come to excellent ornaments: Your breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you were naked and bare. ⁸ Now when I passed by you, and looked on you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness: Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you", said the Lord GOD, "and you became Mine. ⁹ Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with broidered work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: And you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper into a kingdom. ¹⁴ And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: For it was perfect through My splendor, which I had put on you", said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ "But you trusted in your own beauty, and played the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications on every one who passed by; his it was. ¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so. ¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them, ¹⁸ and took your broidered garments, and covered them: And you have set My oil and My incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My meat which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet smell: And thus it was", said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ "Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed these ones to them to be devoured. Are your whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain My children, and delivered and caused these ones to pass through the fire for them? ²² And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were polluted in your blood. ²³ And it came to pass after all your wickedness, ('woe, woe to you!' said the Lord GOD); ²⁴ That you have also built to yourselves an eminent place, and have made a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at every head of a road, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms. ²⁶ You have also committed fornication with your neighbors the Egyptians, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ Behold, therefore I have outstretched My hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary food, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way. ²⁸ You have also played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the harlot with them, and yet could not be satisfied. ²⁹ Moreover you have multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet even with this you were not satisfied. ³⁰ How weak is your heart", said the Lord GOD, "seeing you do all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; ³¹ in that you build your eminent place at the head of every road, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorn hire; ³² but rather as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! ³³ They give gifts to all whores: But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom. ³⁴ And you are contrary from other women in your whoredoms, in that no one follows you to commit whoredoms: And in that you give a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary." ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: ³⁶ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those who you have loved, with all those who you have hated; I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places: They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women: And I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and also you shall no longer give hire. ⁴² So I will make My fury toward you to rest, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will no longer be angry. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted Me in all these things; behold, therefore I will also recompense your way upon your head", said the Lord GOD: "and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, everyone who uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, 'As is the mother, so is her daughter.' ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who lothes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand: And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: But, as if that were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live", said the Lord GOD, "Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: Therefore I took them away as I saw good. ⁵¹ Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: They are more righteous than you: Yes, be confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters. ⁵³ When I shall bring their captivity again, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then I will bring back the captivity of your captives in the midst of them: ⁵⁴ That you may bear your own shame, and may be confounded in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate. ⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was discovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all who are around her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise you all around. ⁵⁸ You have borne your lewdness and your abominations", said the LORD. ⁵⁹ For thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. ⁶⁰ Nevertheless I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. ⁶¹ Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. ⁶² And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am the LORD: ⁶³ That you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done", said the Lord GOD.' "

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness: They did not walk in My statutes, and they despised My judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and they greatly polluted My Sabbaths: Then I said, 'I will pour out My fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.'

¹⁶ because they despised My judgments, and did not walk in My statutes, but polluted My Sabbaths: For their heart went after their idols.

¹⁸ But I said to their children in the wilderness, 'Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:

²⁴ because they had not executed My judgments, but had despised My statutes, and had polluted My Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

³⁰ Why does the house of Israel say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Are you polluted after the manner of your fathers? And do you commit whoredom after their abominations?

⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My Sabbaths.

²⁸ And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies to them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD', when the LORD has not spoken.

¹¹ And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms. ¹² She doted on the Assyrians her neighbors, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men. ¹³ Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way, ¹⁴ and that she increased her whoredoms: For when she saw men portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion, ¹⁵ girded with girdles on their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity: ¹⁶ And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted on them, and sent messengers to them into Chaldea. ¹⁷ And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them. ¹⁸ So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: Then My mind was alienated from her, like My mind was alienated from her sister. ¹⁹ Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. ²⁰ For she doted on their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses. ²¹ Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth, in bruising your teats by the Egyptians for the breasts of your youth.

⁵ we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and from Your judgments: ⁶ Neither have we hearkened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our princes, our rulers, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ O LORD, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion of faces, as at this time; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. ⁹ To the LORD our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; ¹⁰ neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. ¹¹ Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing, that they might not obey Your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. ¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: For under the whole heaven it has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

¹² Therefore I will be to Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness. ¹³ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: Yet he could not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

¹¹ Also, O Judah, he has set a harvest for you, when I returned the captivity of My people."

² The LORD also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings He will recompense him.

² "I have known only you of all the families of the earth: Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

¹⁸ What profits the graven image that its maker has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols?

²⁵ Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

⁸ Therefore he that despises, does not despise man, but God, who has also given to us His Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Consider that as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
