⁸ And he communed with them, saying, "If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar, ⁹ that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it to me for a possession of a burial site among you." ¹⁰ And Ephron dwelled among the children of Heth: And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, ¹¹ "No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field, and the cave that is in it, I give it to you; in the presence of the sons of my people I give it to you: Bury your dead." ¹² And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land. ¹³ And he spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, "But if you will give it, I implore you, hear me: I will give you money for the field; take it from me, and I will bury my dead there." ¹⁴ And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, ¹⁵ "My lord, hearken to me: The land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and you? Therefore bury your dead." ¹⁶ And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

⁴⁴ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, "Take a censer, and put fire in it from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly to the congregation, and make an atonement for them: For there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun. ⁴⁷ And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the middle of the congregation; and behold, the plague was begun among the people: And he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. ⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. ⁴⁹ Now those that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside those that died about the matter of Korah. ⁵⁰ And Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: And the plague was stayed.

⁸ and he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

³ And Joab said to the king, Now the LORD your God add to the people, how many soever they be, a hundred times, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said to him, "Go up, raise an altar to the LORD in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

²² Then David said to Ornan, "Grant me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar in it to the LORD: You shall grant it me for the full price: That the plague may be stayed from the people.

³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up, and executed judgment: And so the plague was halted.

⁶ And Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ⁷ 'Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you saying, "Buy my field that is in Anathoth: For the right of redemption is yours to buy it." ' ⁸ So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, 'Buy my field, I implore you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: For the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD. ⁹ And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. ¹⁰ And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances. ¹¹ So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open: ¹² And I gave the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses who subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews who sat in the court of the prison. ¹³ And I charged Baruch before them, saying, ¹⁴ 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days."
