⁶ And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, "Why have you not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?

¹² "When you take the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then they shall give every man a ransom for his soul to the LORD, when you number them; that there be no plague among them, when you number them.their number: In Hebrew, them that are to be numbered ¹³ They shall give this, everyone that passes among those that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs): A half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD.half a shekel of Jewish money equated to 1/10'th of an ounce of silver, or 1 shilling and 1.688 pence UK money; per Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ¹⁴ Everyone that passes among those that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering to the LORD. ¹⁵ The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering to the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls. ¹⁶ And you shall take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial to the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls."

⁵⁰ But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it: They shall bear the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister to it, and shall encamp all around the tabernacle.

⁷ And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness. ⁸ And it came to pass, that on the next day Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

² And your brothers also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring you with you, that they may be joined to you, and minister to you: But you and your sons with you shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.

³ And Joab said to the king, Now the LORD your God add to the people, how many soever they be, a hundred times, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

⁴⁴ "Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He had appointed, speaking to Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.
