And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so. ⁹ Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, "Hasten here Micaiah the son of Imlah. ¹⁰ And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. ¹¹ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: And he said, "Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Syrians, until you have consumed them. ¹² And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: For the LORD shall deliver it into the king's hand. ¹³ And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: Let your word, I implore you, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good. ¹⁴ And Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD said to me, that will I speak. ¹⁵ So he came to the king. And the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: For the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. ¹⁶ And the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD? ¹⁷ And he said, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: And the LORD said, "These have no master: Let them return every man to his house in peace. ¹⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil? ¹⁹ And he said, "Hear you therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. ²⁰ And the LORD said, "Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. ²¹ And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, "I will persuade him. ²² And the LORD said to him, "With which? And he said, "I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, "You shall persuade him, and prevail also: Go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you. ²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, "Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, "Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son; ²⁷ and say, "Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, "If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me. And he said, "Listen, O people, every one of you. ²⁹ So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead. ³⁰ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put you on your robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. ³¹ But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, "Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel. ³² And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: And Jehoshaphat cried out. ³³ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. ³⁴ And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: Why he said to the driver of his chariot, Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. ³⁵ And the battle increased that day: And the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at sunset: And the blood ran out of the wound into the middle of the chariot. ³⁶ And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, "Every man to his city, and every man to his own country. ³⁷ So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. ³⁸ And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armor; according to the word of the LORD which he spoke. ³⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ⁴⁰ So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. ⁴¹ And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. ⁴² Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. ⁴³ And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places. ⁴⁴ And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel. ⁴⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ⁴⁶ And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land. ⁴⁷ There was then no king in Edom: A deputy was king. ⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: But they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber. ⁴⁹ Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not. ⁵⁰ And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. ⁵¹ Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel. ⁵² And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin: ⁵³ For he served Baal, and worshiped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

³⁴ And Ben-hadad said to him, "The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

²⁴ And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.

⁴¹ And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

⁴⁴ And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

¹⁸ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: For the daughter of Ahab was his wife: And he did evil in the sight of the LORD.

¹ Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab. ² And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead. ³ And Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Will you go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and we will be with you in the war. ⁴ And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Inquire, I implore you, at the word of the LORD today. ⁵ Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? ³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs,

² And it was told to the Gazites, saying, "Samson has come here." And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, "In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him."

¹⁰ And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak you not a word of bringing the king back?

¹³ The son of Geber, in Ramothgilead; to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, three score great cities with walls and brazen bars:

⁷ And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me: Will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, "I will go up: I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.

³ And Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Will you go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and we will be with you in the war.

² And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should you help the ungodly, and love those that hate the LORD? Therefore is wrath on you from before the LORD.

²¹ O LORD, do I not hate those that hate You? And am I not grieved with those that rise up against You? ²² I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³³ Do not be deceived: "Evil communications corrupt good manners."

¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said: "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you",

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹¹ For he that bids him God-speed is a partaker of his evil deeds.

²⁶ And he that overcomes, and keeps My works to the end, to him I will give power over the nations:

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

¹⁴ And the men took of their food, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD.

¹ Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, "Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

¹⁸ And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, "Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, "Judah shall go up first.

⁹ And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring here the ephod." ¹⁰ Then David said, "O LORD God of Israel, your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech You, tell Your servant." And the LORD said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will deliver you up."

⁸ And David inquired at the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue: For you shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all."

³ But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, "Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

¹³ So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;

⁴ And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Inquire, I implore you, at the word of the LORD today. ⁵ Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, "Go up; for God will deliver it into the king's hand.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

² "I implore you inquire of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon makes war against us; it may be that the LORD will deal with us according to all His wondrous works, that the king may go up from us."

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "We beseech you, let our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are but a few left of many, as your eyes do behold us): ³ That the LORD your God may show us the way in which we may walk, and the thing that we may do." ⁴ Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, "I have heard you; behold, I will pray to the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it to you; I will keep nothing back from you." ⁵ Then they said to Jeremiah, "The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not do according to all things which the LORD your God shall send to us by you. ⁶ Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God."

³ "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: Should I be inquired of by them at all?

¹ And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me. ² Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ³ "Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Have you come to inquire of me? As I live", said the Lord GOD, "I will not be inquired of by you." '

¹⁹ Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

¹⁵ So he came to the king. And the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: For the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

²² And the LORD said to him, "With which? And he said, "I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, "You shall persuade him, and prevail also: Go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

¹⁴ And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, "Go you up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall inherit them: For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely. ¹¹ For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace'; when there is no peace.

¹³ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say to them, 'You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.' " ¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies in My name: I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoke to them: They prophesy to you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their heart."

¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: They commit adultery and walk in lies: They also strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness; they are, all of them, as Sodom to Me, and her inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; 'Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: For from the prophets of Jerusalem has profaneness gone forth into all the land.' " ¹⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you: They make you vain: They speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. ¹⁷ Still they say to those who despise Me, 'The LORD has said, "You shall have peace" '; and they say to everyone who walks after the imagination of his own heart, "No evil shall come upon you.' "

¹ And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying, ² "Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, 'I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. ³ Within two full years I will bring into this place again all the vessels of the LORD's house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon: ⁴ And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon', said the LORD: 'for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.' " ⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of the LORD, ⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, "Amen: The LORD do so: The LORD perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD's house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place. ⁷ Nevertheless hear now this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people; ⁸ the prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence. ⁹ The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the LORD has truly sent him."

⁷ Have you not seen a vain vision, and have you not spoken a lying divination, whereas you say, 'The LORD said it'; albeit I have not spoken?" ⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you", said the Lord GOD. ⁹ And My hand shall be on the prophets who see vanity, and who divine lies: They shall not be in the assembly of My people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD. ¹⁰ Because, even because they have seduced My people, saying, "Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar: ¹¹ Say to those who daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: There shall be an overflowing shower; and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. ¹² See, when the wall has fallen, shall it not be said to you, 'Where is the daubing with which you have daubed it?' " ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will even rend it with a stormy wind in My fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in My anger, and great hailstones in My fury to consume it. ¹⁴ So I will break down the wall that you have daubed with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and you shall be consumed in its midst: And you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish My wrath upon the wall, and on those who have daubed it with untempered mortar, and will say to you, 'The wall is no more, neither are they who daubed it'; ¹⁶ to wit, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace", said the Lord GOD.

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts they shall heap up to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways; because of by whom the way of truth shall be spoken evil of. ³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, "Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah. ¹² And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. ¹³ And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, "No: For the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

⁶ But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him? ⁷ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: But I hate him; for he never prophesied good to me, but always evil: The same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so.

⁸ And his brothers said to him, "Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?" And they hated him all the more for his dreams, and for his words.

⁴ For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water).

And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him. ³⁸ So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes on his face. ³⁹ And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king: And he said, "Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, "Keep this man: If by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver. ⁴⁰ And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, "So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it. ⁴¹ And he hurried, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets. ⁴² And he said to him, "Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people. ⁴³ And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you: Because you have sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.

²⁷ And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. ²⁸ And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ see you how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: But in his son's days will I bring the evil on his house.

¹³ And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: Let your word, I implore you, be like the word of one of them, and speak that which is good.

²⁷ and say, "Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

²² And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²¹ Evil shall slay the wicked: And those that hate the righteous shall be desolate.

¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost surrounded by evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly."

⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹² A scorner does not love one that reproves him: Neither will he go to the wise.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

¹⁰ Which say to the seers, "See not"; and to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and His Holy One, to Him whom man despises, to Him whom the nation abhors, to a Servant of rulers, "Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD who is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and He shall choose You."

¹⁹ "I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him who is far off, and to him who is near", said the LORD; "and I will heal him." ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ "There is no peace", said my God, "for the wicked."

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, "Fear on every side." "Report", they said, "and we will report it." All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, "Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, "We beseech you, let this man be put to death: For thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt."

³ But Baruch the son of Neriah sets you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon." ⁴ So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, did not obey the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.

¹⁰ They hate him that rebukes in the gate, and they abhor him that speaks uprightly.

⁷ "O you that are named the house of Jacob, is the Spirit of the LORD confined? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good to him that walks uprightly?

¹¹ If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood speaks lies, saying, 'I will prophesy to you from wine and from strong drink'; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

²² And you shall be hated by all people for My name's sake: But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he who does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are worked in God."

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but it hates Me, because I testify of it, that the works of the world are evil.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love his own: But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

⁷ And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shall beget, they shall take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

¹⁸ Now at the end of the days that the king had appointed to bring them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

¹ Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, in front of the king's house: And the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, facing toward the gate of the house.

⁸ let the royal apparel be brought which the king wears, and the horse that the king rides upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: ⁹ And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man with whom the king delights to honor, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, 'Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.' "

¹⁴ Therefore do not listen to the words of the prophets who speak to you, saying, 'You shall not serve the king of Babylon': For they prophesy a lie to you. ¹⁵ For I have not sent them", said the LORD, "yet they prophesy a lie in My name; that I might drive you out, and that you might perish, you, and the prophets that prophesy to you." ¹⁶ Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, "Thus says the LORD; 'Do not listen to the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, "Behold, the vessels of the LORD's house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon": For they prophesy a lie to you.

And they turned aside to fight against him: And Jehoshaphat cried out. ³³ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. ³⁴ And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: Why he said to the driver of his chariot, Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. ³⁵ And the battle increased that day: And the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at sunset: And the blood ran out of the wound into the middle of the chariot. ³⁶ And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, "Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

²² Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and did not hearken to the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

¹⁴ But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: For they are foolishness to him: Neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man. ¹⁶ "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him?" I do send you to them; and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.' ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house), Yet they shall know that there has been a prophet among them. ⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. ⁷ And you shall speak My words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: For they are most rebellious. ⁸ But you, son of man, hear what I say to you; Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house: Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.

¹⁷ "Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel: Therefore hear the word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. ¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. ¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

²⁶ Therefore I testify for the record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I have not shunned to declare to you all the counsel of God.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the Word of God: But out of sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

² but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the Word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

¹⁴ Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

²⁷ And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, "Cry aloud: For he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleeps, and must be awaked.

¹³ And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, "No: For the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

⁴⁵ Then He came to His disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest: Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

²⁶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho: He shall lay its foundation in his firstborn, and in his youngest son he shall set up the gates of it."

²⁴ And the men of Israel were distressed that day: For Saul had adjured the people, saying, "Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on my enemies." So none of the people tasted any food.

¹⁵ And the king said to him, "How many times shall I adjure you that you say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?

¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God."

⁷ and cried out with a loud voice, and said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God, that You do not torment me."

¹³ Then certain ones of the vegabond Jews, exorcists, took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches."

¹⁷ which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

⁹ (In former times in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he spoke in this manner, "Come, and let us go to the seer": For he that is now called a Prophet was in former times called a Seer).

¹⁶ Then he said, "I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: And the LORD said, "These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace. ¹⁷ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good to me, but evil?

¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a branch of an almond tree." ¹² Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well: For I will hasten My word to perform it." ¹³ And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a seething pot; and the face of it is toward the north." ¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north an evil shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁵ For lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north", said the LORD; "and they shall come, and they shall each one set his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah. ¹⁶ And I will utter My judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.

¹ "Woe to the pastors who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!" said the LORD. ² Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed My people; "You have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: Behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings", said the LORD.

⁶ My people have been lost sheep: Their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away upon the mountains: They have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.

¹⁷ Israel is as scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: First the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones."

⁴ And I looked, and behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire enfolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the middle of it emanated the color amber, out of the middle of the fire.

⁴ You have not strengthened the diseased, neither have you healed those who were sick, neither have you bound up those who were broken, neither have you brought back those who were driven away, neither have you sought those who were lost; but with force and with cruelty you have ruled them. ⁵ And they were scattered, because there is no shepherd: And they became meat to all the wild beasts of the field, when they were scattered. ⁶ My sheep wandered all through the mountains, and on every high hill: Yes, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and no one searched or sought after them."

² For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: Therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.

⁷ "Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is My fellow", says the LORD of hosts: "Smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: And I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

³⁶ But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they fainted, and were scattered widely, as sheep having no shepherd.

¹¹ and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as if it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: ¹² In which were all sorts of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and fowls of the air. ¹³ And there came a voice to him, "Rise, Peter; kill, and eat." ¹⁴ But Peter said, "Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." ¹⁵ And the voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed, do not call that common." ¹⁶ This was done three times: And the vessel was received again into heaven. ¹⁷ Now while Peter doubted within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: But I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²² Though you pound a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

¹ He, that often being reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered, and said to Him, "Master, in this saying You reproach us also."

¹⁸ Again he said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left. ¹⁹ And the LORD said, "Who shall persuade Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spoke saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner. ²⁰ Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, "I will entice him. And the LORD said to him, "With which? ²¹ And he said, 'I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the LORD said, 'You shall entice him, and you shall also prevail: Go out, and do so even.' ²² Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil against you.

⁶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word. ²¹ Bless the LORD, all you His hosts; you ministers of His, that do His pleasure.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah.

¹ In the year that king Uzziah died I also saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and robe train filled the temple. ² Above it stood the seraphim: Each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. ³ And one cried out to another, and said, "Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: The whole earth is full of his glory."

¹⁴ Why hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, that rule this people who are in Jerusalem.

⁴ Hear the word of the LORD all of you, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

²⁰ Hear therefore the word of the LORD, all you of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

¹⁵ And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, you remnant of Judah; Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; 'If you wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

²⁶ And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: And on the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. ²⁷ And I saw as the color of amber, as the appearance of fire all around within it, from the appearance of His loins even upward, and from the appearance of His loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness all around. ²⁸ Like the appearance of a rainbow that is in the cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of One who spoke.

² "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own hearts, 'Hear the word of the LORD;

⁹ I beheld until the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days sat, Whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like pure wool: His throne was like the fiery flame, and His wheels as burning fire. ¹⁰ A fiery stream issued and came out from before Him: Thousand thousands ministered to Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: The judgment was set, and the books were opened.

¹⁶ Now therefore hear the word of the LORD: You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drop your word against the house of Isaac.'

¹⁰ And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, "These are those whom the LORD has sent to walk to and fro through the earth."

¹⁰ Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.

³¹ When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit upon the throne of His glory:

⁵⁵ But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, ⁵⁶ and said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God."

⁷ And of the angels He says, "Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire."

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation?

²² But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

² And immediately I was in the spirit: And behold, a throne was set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. ³ And He that sat there looked like a jasper and a sardius stone: And there was a rainbow all around the throne, that by sight looked like an emerald.sardius; or, ruby

¹¹ Then I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels all around the throne, and the beasts, and the elders: And the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his.

¹⁰ Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Surely you have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, 'You shall have peace'; whereas the sword reaches to the heart."

⁹ And if the prophet is deceived when he has spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out My hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.

²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

⁶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. ⁷ And the LORD said to Satan, "From where come you? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

²³ then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

¹⁴ But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

¹⁰ And it came to pass on the next day, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: And David played with his hand, as at other times: And there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

⁹ And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: And David played with his hand.

²⁰ And the LORD said, "Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

⁸ And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschews evil? ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Have not you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, "Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. ⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face. ⁶ And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your hand; but save his life.

¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: As he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not abide in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: For he is a liar, and the father of it.

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God."

⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

¹ Now the Spirit expressly speaks, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

⁶ We are of God: He that knows God hears us; he that is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ¹⁰ Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come: For the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived.

¹³ And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. ¹⁴ For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

¹⁷ For God has put in their hearts to fulfill His will, and to agree, and give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

³ and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years are fulfilled: And after that he must be loosed for a little season.

⁷ And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

²¹ And the LORD said to Moses, "When you go to return into Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in your hand: But I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

²⁰ But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: Has he said, "and shall he not do it? Or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good? ²⁰ Behold, I have received commandment to bless: And he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: For the LORD your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as appears this day.

⁴² And he said to him, "Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, Have you killed, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your blood, even yours.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: But I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so. ⁹ Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, "Hasten here Micaiah the son of Imlah. ¹⁰ And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. ¹¹ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: And he said, "Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Syrians, until you have consumed them.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, "Are you made of the king's counsel? Forbear; why should you be smitten? Then the prophet declined, and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.

⁹ And He said, "Go, and tell this people, 'You indeed hear, but do not understand; and you see indeed, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people dull, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

²⁰ He feeds on ashes: A deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

³ "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: Should I be inquired of by them at all? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him who comes according to the multitude of his idols; ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from Me through their idols." '

¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables: Because seeing they do not see; and hearing they do not hear, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.'

²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you beforehand.

¹¹ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: And he said, "Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Syrians, until you have consumed them.

²³ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you? ²⁴ And Micaiah said, "Behold, you shall see on that day when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.

⁵ The Lord GOD has opened My ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. ⁶ I gave My back to the smiters, and My cheeks to those who plucked off the hair: I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and broke it. ¹¹ And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, "Thus says the LORD; 'Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.' " And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

²⁶ 'The LORD has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that you should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison, and in the stocks. ²⁷ Now therefore why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you?

³⁰ He gives his cheek to him who smites him: He is fully filled with reproach.

¹ Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops: He has laid siege against us: They shall smite the judge of Israel upon the cheek with a rod.

³⁹ But I say to you, That you are not to resist evil: But whoever smites you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

⁶⁸ saying, "Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is he that smote You?"

⁴² "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him: For He said, 'I am the Son of God.' "

⁶⁵ Then some began to spit on Him, and to cover His face, and to buffet Him, and to say to Him, "Prophesy": And the servants struck Him with the palms of their hands.

¹⁹ Then they smote Him on the head with a reed, and spat on Him, and bowing their knees worshiped Him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off of Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'The servant is not greater than his lord.' If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My sayings, they will keep yours also.

² And the high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

⁸ And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of those that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell on twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

¹⁴ Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and bulrush, in one day. ¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail. ¹⁶ For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and those that are led by them are destroyed.

¹⁵ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; 'Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: For from the prophets of Jerusalem has profaneness gone forth into all the land.' "

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; 'Behold, I will cast you from off the face of the earth: This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.' " ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

²¹ Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in My name; 'Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; ²² and a curse shall be taken up by all the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon concerning them, saying, "The LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire";

³² Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: He shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for My people", said the LORD; "because he has taught rebellion against the LORD." ' "

¹⁷ Therefore thus says the LORD; 'Your wife shall be a harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you shall die in a polluted land: And Israel shall surely go forth into captivity from his land.' "

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

³ You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for you came forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: That you may remember the day when you came forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

⁵ You feed them with the bread of tears; and give them tears to drink in great measure.

⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread, and have mingled my drink with weeping

² It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: For He gives His beloved sleep.

²⁰ And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet your teachers shall not be removed into a corner any more, but your eyes shall see your teachers:

² Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

²⁶ 'The LORD has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that you should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison, and in the stocks.

¹⁵ Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: For they had made that the prison.

⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: And they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: So Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

⁵³ They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone on me. ⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, "I am cut off." ⁵⁵ I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

¹⁷ For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her. ¹⁸ For John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." ¹⁹ Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: ²⁰ For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. ²¹ Then when a convenient day came, Herod made a supper on his birthday to his lords, high captains, and chief estate owners of Galilee; ²² And when Herodias' daughter came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the damsel, "Ask of me whatever you desire, and I will give it to you." ²³ He even swore to her, "Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom." ²⁴ Now she went forth, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist." ²⁵ And she came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked it, saying, "I desire that without delay you give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter." ²⁶ And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for the sakes of those who sat with him, he would not reject her request. ²⁷ Therefore the king immediately sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought; and he went and beheaded him in the prison, ²⁸ brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel: And the damsel gave it to her mother.

²⁰ yet above all added this, that he shut up John in prison.

⁴⁵ But then, if that servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming'; and begins to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and be drunk; ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

¹⁸ and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

²³ And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely: ²⁴ Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and fastened their feet in the stocks.

²⁵ Moreover as he reasoned about righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, "Go your way for now; when I have a convenient opportunity, I will call for you." ²⁶ He also hoped that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might let him loose: Therefore he sent for him often, and communed with him. ²⁷ But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' office: And Felix, willing to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

¹⁰ Which things I also did in Jerusalem: And many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.

¹ For this cause I, Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

² For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹³ Go now, you that say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a city, continue there for a year, buy and sell, and win gain": ¹⁴ When in fact you all do not know what shall happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is indeed a vapor, that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which you shall suffer: Behold, the devil shall throw some of you into prison, that you may be proven; and you shall have tribulation ten days: Be faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of life.

²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me.

²⁰ But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. ²¹ And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken? ²² When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously: You shall not be afraid of him.

²¹ And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long halt you between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him: But if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. ²² Then said Elijah to the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. ²³ Let them therefore give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: And I will dress the other bull, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: ²⁴ And call you on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: And the God that answers by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, "It is well spoken.

³⁶ And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, "LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. ³⁷ Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that you are the LORD God, and that you have turned their heart back again.

¹⁰ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² And Elijah answered and said to them, "If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

²⁷ And Micaiah said, "If you certainly return in peace, then has not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, "Listen, all you people.

²⁶ that confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; that said to Jerusalem, "You shall be inhabited"; and to the cities of Judah, "You shall be built", and I will raise up the decayed places of it:

¹ Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

² Hear, all you people; hearken, O earth, and all that is in it: And let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the LORD from His holy temple.

¹⁴ And when He had called all the people to Himself, He said to them, "Hearken to Me, everyone of you, and understand: ¹⁵ There is nothing from outside a man, which entering into him can defile him: But the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile the man.

³⁷ Therefore David himself calls Him 'Lord'; how then is He his Son?" And the common people heard Him gladly.

¹⁰ and said, "O full of all craftiness and all mischief, you child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? ¹¹ And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season." And immediately there fell upon him a mist and a darkness; and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

² And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. ³ And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria? ⁴ And he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses. ⁵ And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Inquire, I implore you, at the word of the LORD today. ⁶ Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, "Go up; for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. ⁷ And Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him? ⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: But I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say so. ⁹ Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, "Hasten here Micaiah the son of Imlah.

²⁸ So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

⁸ And Saul disguised himself, and put on other clothing, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: And he said, "I implore you, divine to me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name to you."

² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched there a wise woman, and said to her, "I implore you, feign yourself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not yourself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I implore you, and disguise yourself, that you be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get you to Shiloh: Behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

³⁸ So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes on his face.

¹⁰ And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

²⁹ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself, and I will go to the battle; but put you on your robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places such that I shall not see him?" said the LORD. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" said the LORD.

¹¹ And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: So that they wearied themselves to find the door.

² and had taken the women that were in it captive: They did not slay any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.

¹ And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: And there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

¹⁶ And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

²⁴ And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:

³³ Now the men did diligently observe whether anything would come from him, and did hastily catch it: And they said, "Your brother Benhadad. Then he said, "Go you, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. ³⁴ And Ben-hadad said to him, "The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away. ³⁵ And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I implore you. And the man refused to smite him. ³⁶ Then said he to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him. ³⁷ Then he found another man, and said, "Smite me, I implore you. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him. ³⁸ So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes on his face. ³⁹ And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king: And he said, "Your servant went out into the middle of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, "Keep this man: If by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver. ⁴⁰ And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, "So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it. ⁴¹ And he hurried, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets. ⁴² And he said to him, "Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

³⁰ Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, "Fight you not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.

⁶ Both the great and the small shall die in this land: They shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:

¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were severely afraid: And the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.

³¹ And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: But Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

¹ I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. ² Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

¹ A Song of degrees. Out of the depths I have cried out to You, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice: Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. ³ If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? ⁴ But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

¹ Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, ² and said, "I cried by reason of my affliction to the LORD, and He heard me; out of the belly of hell I cried out, and You heard my voice.

³¹ But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, "Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: You shall restrain the remainder of wrath.

⁴⁹ And David put his hand in his bag, and took from there a stone, and slung it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they did not know anything.

²⁴ And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.

²³ And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.

¹³ Therefore I also will make you sick in smiting you, in making you desolate because of your sins.

⁹ And they had breastplates, even as breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots with many horses running to battle.

²⁸ And Micaiah said, "If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me. And he said, "Listen, O people, every one of you.

⁷ And the LORD said to Gideon, "By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand: And let all the other people go every man to his place. ⁸ So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets: And he sent all the rest of Israel every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men: And the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

²⁴ And the children of Israel departed there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from there every man to his inheritance.

¹⁰ And the Philistines fought, and Israel was beaten, and every man fled into his tent: And there was a very great slaughter; for there fell thirty thousand footmen of Israel.

⁸ Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told to all the people, saying, "Behold, the king does sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: For Israel had fled every man to his tent.

¹⁶ So when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? Neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: To your tents, O Israel: Now see to your own house, David. So Israel departed to their tents.

²⁴ thus says the LORD, You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers the children of Israel: Return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They listened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

¹⁷ And he said, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: And the LORD said, "These have no master: Let them return every man to his house in peace.

¹² And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.

¹⁴ And behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all have come to pass to you, and not one thing has failed of it. ¹⁵ Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come on you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring on you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

²⁵ who frustrates the tokens of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish; ²⁶ that confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers; that said to Jerusalem, "You shall be inhabited"; and to the cities of Judah, "You shall be built", and I will raise up the decayed places of it:

³ I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass. ⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow brass; ⁵ I have even from the beginning declared it to you; before it came to pass I showed you it: Lest you should say, 'My idol has done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded them.'

²¹ "The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and did it not come into His mind? ²² So that the LORD could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed; therefore your land is a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day. ²³ Because you have burned incense, and because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in His law, nor in His statutes, nor in His testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is this day."

⁴ "Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings, all of you" ': But they did not hear, nor hearken to Me", says the LORD. ⁵ "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? And they returned and said, 'As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, in this manner He has dealt with us.' "

³⁵ Heaven and earth shall pass away: But My words shall not pass away.

¹⁸ Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the best gold.

²² For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of Hiram: Once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

¹⁹ And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

²³ The rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Nevertheless in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

³¹ Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

⁵ Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁰ Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he worked, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁷ Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

⁸ All Your garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.

⁶ Of the oaks of Bashan have they made your oars; the company of the Ashurites have made your benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.

¹⁵ The men of Dedan were your merchants; many isles were the merchandise of your hand: They brought you horns of ivory and ebony for a present.

¹⁵ And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end", says the LORD.

⁴ that lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

¹⁶ And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, where they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break My covenant which I have made with them.

¹² And when your days be fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹⁰ So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

²¹ And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, "Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.

³¹ And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.

⁵¹ Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.

² And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: And he sent messengers, and said to them, "Go, inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

¹⁷ So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

³⁵ And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

² And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

¹⁰ And Solomon's son was Rehoboam, Abia his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,

¹ And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

³¹ And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: He was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

²¹ And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

² Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.

¹⁰ And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom.

¹⁶ And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.

⁸ They have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them: They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, 'These be your gods, O Israel, which have brought you up out of the land of Egypt.' "

²⁰ And Samuel said to the people, "Fear not: You have done all this wickedness: Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart; ²¹ and do not turn aside: For then should you go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

²³ For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

⁵ Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

¹¹ And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father.

¹⁴ But the high places were not removed: Nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.

³ But the high places were not taken away: The people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

³ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: He did according to all things as Joash his father did. ⁴ However, the high places were not taken away: As yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.

³ And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; ⁴ save that the high places were not removed: The people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.

²² But if you say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: Is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

² And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God: ³ For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and broke down the images, and cut down the groves: ⁴ And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment. ⁵ Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: And the kingdom was quiet before him.

¹¹ And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, "LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with those that have no power: Help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you.

⁸ And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from Mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.

¹⁷ But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: Nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

⁷ And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, "Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD your God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of your hand. ⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you did rely on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand. ⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: Therefore from now on you shall have wars. ¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time. ¹¹ And behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ¹² And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: Yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

³ And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not to Baalim; ⁴ but sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in His commandments, and not after the doings of Israel. ⁵ Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance. ⁶ And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: Moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

³ Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the groves out of the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God. ⁴ And Jehoshaphat dwelled at Jerusalem: And he went out again through the people from Beersheba to Mount Ephraim, and brought them back to the LORD God of their fathers.

³ And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. ⁴ And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: Even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD. ⁵ And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, ⁶ and said, "O LORD God of our fathers, are not you God in heaven? And rule not you over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in your hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand you? ⁷ Are not you our God, who did drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever? ⁸ And they dwelled in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying, ⁹ if, when evil comes on us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in your presence, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, then you will hear and help. ¹⁰ And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not; ¹¹ behold, I say, "how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. ¹² O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: But our eyes are on you. ¹³ And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. ¹⁴ Then on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the middle of the congregation; ¹⁵ and he said, "Listen you, all Judah, an d all you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat, Thus says the LORD to you, Do not be afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. ¹⁶ Tomorrow go down against them: Behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and you shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. ¹⁷ You shall not need to fight in this battle: Set yourselves, stand you still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: Fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: For the LORD will be with you. ¹⁸ And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: And all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. ¹⁹ And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high. ²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, O Judah, an d all you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper. ²¹ And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers to the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, "Praise the LORD; for his mercy endures forever. ²² And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. ²³ For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. ²⁴ And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked to the multitude, and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. ²⁵ And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: And they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much. ²⁶ And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: Therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, to this day. ²⁷ Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. ²⁸ And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets to the house of the LORD. ²⁹ And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel. ³⁰ So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: For his God gave him rest all around.

⁴ Blessed is that man that makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes: I have hated the work of those who turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

⁵ As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity: But peace shall be upon Israel.

²⁷ Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left: Remove your foot from evil.

⁶ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: For he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: And he worked that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

¹⁴ Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers: For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness?

⁴¹ And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

²⁹ Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

³⁴ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

⁵ And they called to Lot, and said to him, "Where are the men which came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them."

¹⁷ There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

²² Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house all around, and beat at the door, and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, "Bring forth the man that came into your house, that we may know him.

²⁴ And there were also sodomites in the land: And they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

¹² And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

²⁶ For this reason God gave them over to vile affections: For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature: ²⁷ And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men performing what is indecent, and receiving in themselves the recompense of their error which was appropriate.

⁹ Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

¹⁰ for whoremongers, for those that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities all around them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

²³ And the LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from your bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger."

⁴⁰ and you shall live by your sword, and shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass when you shall have the dominion, that you shall break his yoke from off your neck."

³¹ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel. ³² And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: And the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: And the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead. ³⁸ And Saul died, and Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead. ³⁹ And Baalhanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: And the name of his city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab. ⁴⁰ And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth, ⁴¹ duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon, ⁴² duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar, ⁴³ duke Magdiel, duke Iram: These are the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession: He is Esau the father of the Edomites.

¹⁴ And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David wherever he went.

⁹ So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: And they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: And there was no water for the host, and for the domestic beasts that followed them.

²⁰ In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

⁹ moab is My washpot; I will cast out My shoe over Edom; I will triumph over Philistia." ¹⁰ Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?

³⁵ And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Eziongaber. ³⁶ And they removed from Eziongaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.

²⁶ And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.

²⁸ And they came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

²¹ For the king's ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram: Every three years once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

²¹ And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers to the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, "Praise the LORD; for his mercy endures forever.

³⁵ And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly: ³⁶ And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: And they made the ships in Eziongaber. ³⁷ Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, "Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has broken your works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

⁷ But there came a man of God to him, saying, "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

⁹ Kings' daughters were among Your honorable women: Upon Your right hand stood the queen in gold of Ophir.

⁷ You break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

¹⁶ and on all the ships of Tarshish, and on all pleasant pictures.

⁹ Surely the isles shall wait for Me, and the ships of Tarshish will come first, to bring your sons from afar, their silver and their gold with them, to the name of the LORD your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you.

³ But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: So he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

⁴³ And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: And Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

⁴⁰ So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁶ And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. ¹⁷ Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. ¹⁸ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: For the daughter of Ahab was his wife: And he did evil in the sight of the LORD.

¹ Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

⁵ Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. ⁶ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: For he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: And he worked that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD. ⁷ However, the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons forever.

²⁵ And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.

²⁸ Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said to them, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: Behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. ³⁰ And this thing became a sin: For the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan. ³¹ And he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi. ³² And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like to the feast that is in Judah, and he offered on the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. ³³ So he offered on the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast to the children of Israel: And he offered on the altar, and burnt incense.

⁹ but have done evil above all that were before you: For you have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back: ¹⁰ Therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man takes away dung, till it be all gone. ¹¹ Him that dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: For the LORD has spoken it. ¹² Arise you therefore, get you to your own house: And when your feet enter into the city, the child shall die. ¹³ And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: For he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam. ¹⁴ Moreover the LORD shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: But what? Even now. ¹⁵ For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger. ¹⁶ And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

²⁶ And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin with which he made Israel to sin.

³⁴ And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin with which he made Israel to sin.

³⁰ And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him. ³¹ And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him. ³² And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. ³³ And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

²⁵ But there was none like to Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

² And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: And he sent messengers, and said to them, "Go, inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease. ³ But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? ⁴ Now therefore thus says the LORD, You shall not come down from that bed on which you have gone up, but shall surely die. And Elijah departed. ⁵ And when the messengers turned back to him, he said to them, "Why are you now turned back? ⁶ And they said to him, "There came a man up to meet us, and said to us, Go, turn again to the king that sent you, and say to him, Thus says the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that you send to inquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from that bed on which you have gone up, but shall surely die. ⁷ And he said to them, "What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

³ Nevertheless he joined to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

²⁷ And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: For he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: For his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

²⁴ Now she went forth, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist."

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man hears My voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.

¹ And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, "I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, "I will never break My covenant with you. ² And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; you shall throw down their altars: But you have not obeyed My voice: Why have you done this? ³ Why I also said, "I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you. ⁴ And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. ⁵ And they called the name of that place Bochim: And they sacrificed there to the LORD. ⁶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man to his inheritance to possess the land. ⁷ And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel. ⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being a hundred and ten years old. ⁹ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. ¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: And there arose another generation after them, which did not know the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. ¹¹ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

⁷ And also by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam; and because he killed him.

³⁰ And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him. ³¹ And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him. ³² And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

²⁹ see you how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: But in his son's days will I bring the evil on his house.

² And he worked evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: For he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

²⁹ thus they provoked Him to anger with their inventions: And the plague broke out upon them.

³ A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; who sacrifice in gardens, and burn incense on altars of brick;

³ And He put forth the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looks toward the north; where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

¹⁴ Now, lo, if he beget a son, who sees all his father's sins which he has done, and considers, and does not such like, ¹⁵ who has not eaten upon the mountains, neither has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, has not defiled his neighbor's wife, ¹⁶ neither has oppressed any, has not withheld the pledge, neither has spoiled by violence, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment, ¹⁷ who has taken off his hand from the poor, that has not received usury nor increase, has executed my judgments, has walked in My statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. ¹⁸ As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
