Mark 9 Cross References - Sawyer

1 And he said to them, I tell you truly, that there are some of those standing here, who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God having come with power. 2 (9:1) AND after six days Jesus took Peter, and James, and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves alone, and was transfigured before them; 3 and his garments became shining, extremely white, so that no fuller on the earth could whiten them. 4 And Elijah appeared to them; with Moses, and they conversed with Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and we will make three tabernacles, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah; 6 for he knew not what he answered, for they were afraid. 7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came from the cloud, This is my beloved Son; hear him. 8 And looking round immediately they no longer saw any one but Jesus alone with them. 9 (9:2) And coming down from the mountain he charged them to tell no man what they had seen, till the Son of man should have risen from the dead. 10 And they kept the word, inquiring with themselves what the rising from the dead meant. 11 And they asked him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah must first come? 12 And he said to them, Elijah comes first, and restores all things; as also it is written of the Son of man, That he shall suffer many things, and be set at naught; 13 but I tell you, that Elijah has come, and they have done to him what they wished, as it was written of him. 14 (9:3) And coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes disputing with them. 15 And immediately all the multitude seeing him, were highly pleased, and ran forward and saluted him. 16 And he asked, What were you disputing about with them? 17 And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I have brought my son to you, having a dumb spirit; 18 and wherever it takes him it convulses him, and he foams and grates his teeth, and becomes emaciated. And I spoke to your disciples to cast it out, and they could not. 19 And he answered and said to them, O faithless and perverse generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him to me. 20 And they brought him to him. And seeing him, the spirit immediately affected him with convulsions, and he fell on the ground, and rolled about, foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long a time is it since this came upon him? And he said, From a little child; 22 and it often casts him into fire, and into waters, to destroy him; but if you are able, help us, and have mercy on us. 23 And Jesus said to him, If you are able? all things are possible to him that believes. 24 And the father of the little child immediately crying out, said, I believe; help my unbelief. 25 (9:4) And Jesus seeing that a multitude ran together, rebuked the impure spirit, saying to him, Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more. 26 And crying out and affecting him with many convulsions, he went out. And he was like a dead person, so that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up, and he stood up. 28 And when he went into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could we not cast it out? 29 And he said to them, This kind can go out by nothing but prayer. 30 (9:5) And departing thence, he passed through Galilee, and desired that no one should know him, 31 for he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him. And when he is killed, on the third day he shall rise again. 32 And they understood not the word, and were afraid to ask him. 33 (9:6) And he came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house, he asked them, What did you dispute about on the way? 34 And they were silent; for they had disputed with each other on the way as to who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve, and said to them, If any one wishes to be first, he shall he last of all, and a servant of all. 36 And taking a little child, he put it in the midst of them, and taking it in his arms, said to them, 37 Whoever receives one such little child in my name, receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me, but him that sent me. 38 And John spoke to him, saying, Teacher, we saw some one casting out demons in your name, who follows not us, and we forbade him. 39 And Jesus said, Forbid him not; for no one will perform a mighty work in my name, and be able lightly to speak evil of me. 40 For whoever is not against us is for us; 41 and whoever gives you a cup of water because you are Christ's, truly he shall not lose his reward. 42 (9:7) And whoever shall offend one of the little ones having faith, it would be better for him if a millstone was put about his neck and he was cast into the sea. 43 And if your hand offends you, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than having two hands to go away into hell, into the inextinguishable fire. 44 (Added verse not retained in Sawyer) 45 And if your foot offends you, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life lame, than having two feet to be cast into hell. 46 (Added verse not retained in Sawyer) 47 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell, 48 where the worm dies not and the fire is not extinguished. 49 For every man shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good; but if the salt has become insipid, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another.

Matthew 3:1-12

1 (3:1) AND in those days came John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 Change your minds, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying; A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 And this John had his clothes of camel's hair, and a leather girdle about his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about the Jordan, 6 and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 (3:2) And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come for the baptism, he said to them; Offspring of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bear fruit, therefore, worthy of a change of mind; 9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for a father; for I tell you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham; 10 and already the axe lies at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which bears not good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water to a change of mind; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not fit to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and fire; 12 whose winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather his wheat into the storehouse; but the chaff he will burn with an inextinguishable fire.

Matthew 5:29-29

29 But if your right eye offends you, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand offends you, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should go into hell.

A reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went you out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Behold, they that wear fine clothes are in the houses of kings. 9 But what went you out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he of whom it is written; Behold, I send my messenger before your face, to prepare your way before you. 11 I tell you truly, there has not arisen among those born of woman a greater than John the Baptist; but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist till now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied till John.

46 and said to them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise from the dead on the third day,

John 1:6-36

6 (1:2) There was a man, sent by God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a testimony, to testify of the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but to testify of the light. 9 The light was the true [light] which lights every man that comes into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world existed through him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came to his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become sons of God, to them that believe on his name, 13 who are born not of superior blood, nor of a will of the flesh, nor of a will of man, but of God. 14 (1:3) And the Word became flesh and tabernacled with us and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only child with a father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14-36

14 (1:3) And the Word became flesh and tabernacled with us and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only child with a father, full of grace and truth. 15 John testified of him, and cried, saying, This is the one of whom I said, He that comes after me existed before me, for he was before me. 16 For we all have received of his fullness, and grace for grace; 17 for the law was given by Moses, the grace and truth were by Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he declared [him]. 19 (2:1) AND this is the testimony of John, when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who are you? 20 And he confessed and denied not, and confessed, I am not the Christ. 21 And they asked him, What then? are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No. 22 Then they said to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us; what say you of yourself? 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said. 24 (2:2) And those sent were of the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? 26 John answered them saying, I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you know not. 27 He is the one coming after me, the strings of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. 28 These things occurred in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 (2:3) On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who was before me, for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason have I come baptizing with water. 32 And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descend like a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. 33 And I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize with water, he said to me, On whom you see the Spirit descend and remain on him, this is he that baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.

John 1:34-36

34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. 35 (2:4) On the next day John was again standing, and two of his disciples, 36 and looking at Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God.

John 2:25

25 for he had no need that any should testify of man, for he knew what was in man.

John 3:14

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up;

John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that every one believing in him may not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believes in him is not judged; but he that believes not has been judged already; because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 3:27-30

27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it is given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but am sent before him. 29 He that has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice; this my joy, therefore, is fully attained. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 4:27

27 (5:4) And upon this his disciples came, and wondered that he talked with the woman; but no one said to him, What do you seek? or why do you talk with her?

John 4:47

47 Hearing that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and desired him to come down and cure his son, for he was about to die. 48 Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see miracles and prodigies you will not believe. 49 The nobleman said to him, Lord, come down before my child dies. 50 Jesus said to him, Go; your son lives. 22 For the Father judges no man, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father that sent him.

John 5:23

23 that all should honor the Son as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father that sent him. 24 (7:3) I tell you most truly, he that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life, and comes not into judgment, but has passed from death to life. 25 I tell you most truly, that the hour comes, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those that hear shall live.

John 5:45-47

45 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuses you, Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me. 47 But if you believe not his writings, how will you believe my words?

69 and we have believed and know that you are the Holy [Son] of God.

John 8:51-52

51 I tell you most truly, if any one shall keep my word he shall never see death. 52 The Jews said to him, Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, If any one shall keep my word he shall never taste death.

44 (15:7) And Jesus cried and said, He that believes on me, believes not on me but on him that sent me; 45 and he that beholds me beholds him that sent me.
