³ There he spent three months. When a plot was formed against him by the Jews as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia.

¹⁸ Paul remained a number of days more. Then after taking leave of the brethren he sailed away to Syria, and Priscilla and Aquila went with him. He had shaved his head at Cenchreae, for he had a vow.

²¹ When these things had been accomplished Paul took it in mind to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there I must see Rome also."

¹² When it was day, the Jews made a conspiracy and bound themselves by an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ There were more than forty who had taken this oath. ¹⁴ They came to the high priests and elders and said, "We have bound ourselves by an oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Now therefore you and the Council must ask the Tribune to bring him down to you, as if you were going to inquire more exactly about him, and we, before he comes near, will be ready to put him out of the way."

³ and begged as a favor that he would send for him to Jerusalem, intending to have an ambush and kill him on the road.

¹⁵ With this confidence I intended to come to you first, so that you might have a second favor,

⁵ For since we came to Macedonia our flesh has had no rest, but we have been distressed in every way, conflicts without, fears within.

²⁶ in journeys often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my own race, in perils from Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the open country, in perils on the sea, in perils among false brethren;
