⁹ And I was alive apart from law once, and the command having come, the sin revived, and I died;

²¹ 'You heard that it was said to the ancients: You shall not kill, and whoever may kill shall be in danger of the judgment; ²² but I -- I say to you, that every one who is angry at his brother without cause, shall be in danger of the judgment, and whoever may say to his brother, Empty fellow! Shall be in danger of the sanhedrin, and whoever may say, Rebel! Shall be in danger of the gehenna of the fire. ²³ 'If, therefore, you may bring your gift to the altar, and there may remember that your brother has anything against you, ²⁴ leave there your gift before the altar, and go -- first be reconciled to your brother, and then having come bring your gift. ²⁵ 'Be agreeing with your opponent quickly, while you are in the way with him, that the opponent may not deliver you to the judge, and the judge may deliver you to the officer, and to prison you may be cast, ²⁶ verily I say to you, you may not come forth from there till that you may pay the last farthing.

⁴ For God did command, saying, Honour your father and mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death; ⁵ but you say, Whoever may say to father or mother, An offering is whatever you may be profited by me; -- ⁶ and he may not honour his father or his mother, and you did set aside the command of God because of your tradition.

²⁰ The young man said to him, 'All these did I keep from my youth; what yet do I lack?'

⁸ for, having put away the command of God, you hold the tradition of men, baptisms of pots and cups; and many other such like things you do.' ⁹ And he said to them, 'Well do you put away the command of God that your tradition you may keep; ¹⁰ for Moses said, Honour your father and your mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death; ¹¹ and you say, If a man may say to father or to mother, Korban (that is, a gift), is whatever you may be profited out of mine, ¹² and no more do you suffer him to do anything for his father or for his mother, ¹³ setting aside the word of God for your tradition that you delivered; and many such like things you do.'

²⁵ And lo, a certain lawyer stood up, trying him, and saying, 'Teacher, what having done, life age-during shall I inherit?' ²⁶ And he said unto him, 'In the law what has been written? how do you read?' ²⁷ And he answering said, 'You shall love the Lord your God out of all your heart, and out of all your soul, and out of all your strength, and out of all your understanding, and your neighbour as yourself.' ²⁸ And he said to him, 'Rightly you did answer; this do, and you shall live.' ²⁹ And he, willing to declare himself righteous, said unto Jesus, 'And who is my neighbour?'

²⁹ and he answering said to the father, Lo, so many years I do serve you, and never your command did I transgress, and to me you did never give a kid, that with my friends I might make merry;

⁹ And he spake also unto certain who have been trusting in themselves that they were righteous, and have been despising the rest, this simile: ¹⁰ 'Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer; ¹¹ the Pharisee having stood by himself, thus prayed: God, I thank You that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer; ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all things -- as many as I possess.

²¹ And he said, 'All these I did keep from my youth;'

¹⁹ And we have known that as many things as the law says, to those in the law it does speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God; ²⁰ therefore by works of law shall no flesh be declared righteous before Him, for through law is a knowledge of sin.

⁴ So that, my brethren, you also were made dead to the law through the body of the Christ, for your becoming another's, who out of the dead was raised up, that we might bear fruit to God;

⁶ and now we have ceased from the law, that being dead in which we were held, so that we may serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of letter.

¹¹ for the sin, having received an opportunity, through the command, did deceive me, and through it did slay me;

²¹ I find, then, the law, that when I desire to do what is right, with me the evil is present, ²² for I delight in the law of God according to the inward man, ²³ and I behold another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of the sin that is in my members.

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is enmity to God, for to the law of God it does not subject itself,

⁵ for Moses does describe the righteousness that is of the law, that, 'The man who did them shall live in them,'

¹⁹ for I through law, did die, that to God I may live;

¹⁰ for as many as are of works of law are under a curse, for it has been written, 'Cursed is every one who is not remaining in all things that have been written in the Book of the Law -- to do them,'

⁵ circumcision on the eighth day! of the race of Israel! of the tribe of Benjamin! a Hebrew of Hebrews! according to law a Pharisee! ⁶ according to zeal persecuting the assembly! according to righteousness that is in law becoming blameless!

¹⁰ for whoever the whole law shall keep, and shall stumble in one point, he has become guilty of all; ¹¹ for He who is saying, 'You may not commit adultery,' said also, 'You may do no murder;' and if you shall not commit adultery, and shall commit murder, you have become a transgressor of law;
