¹³ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for you do not go in, nor those going in do you permit to enter.

³¹ which of the two did the will of the father?' They say to him, 'The first.' Jesus said to them, 'Verily I say to you, that the tax-gatherers and the harlots do go before you into the reign of God, ³² for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, and the tax-gatherers and the harlots did believe him, and you, having seen, repented not at last -- to believe him.

Because you eat up the houses of the widows, and for a pretence make long prayers, because of this you shall receive more abundant judgment. ¹⁵ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you go round the sea and the dry land to make one proselyte, and whenever it may happen -- you make him a son of gehenna twofold more than yourselves.

²³ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you give tithe of the mint, and the dill, and the cumin, and did neglect the weightier things of the Law -- the judgment, and the kindness, and the faith; these it behoved you to do, and those not to neglect.

²⁵ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you make clean the outside of the cup and the plate, and within they are full of rapine and incontinence.

²⁷ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are like to whitewashed sepulchres, which outwardly indeed do appear beautiful, and within are full of bones of dead men, and of all uncleanness;

²⁹ 'Woo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the tombs of the righteous,

⁴³ 'Woo to you, the Pharisees, because you love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places. ⁴⁴ 'Woo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you are as the unseen tombs, and the men walking above have not known.'

⁵² 'Woo to you, the lawyers, because you took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves you did not enter; and those coming in, you did hinder.'

⁴⁶ The officers answered, 'Never so spake man -- as this man.' ⁴⁷ The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, 'Have you also been led astray? ⁴⁸ did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ but this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.' ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them -- he who came by night unto him -- being one of them, ⁵¹ 'Does our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he does?' ⁵² They answered and said to him, 'Art you also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee has not risen;'

²² These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him -- Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;

²⁴ They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, 'Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;'

³⁴ They answered and said to him, 'In sins you were born altogether, and you do teach us!' and they cast him forth without.

¹⁷ but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.' ¹⁸ And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus,

²⁸ saying, 'Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.'

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go;

¹ And Saul was assenting to his death, and there came in that day a great persecution upon the assembly in Jerusalem, all also were scattered abroad in the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles;

⁸ and there withstood them Elymas the magian -- for so is his name interpreted -- seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.

¹⁵ who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men are contrary, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the nations that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always, but the anger did come upon them -- to the end!

⁸ and, even as Jannes and Jambres stood against\'7bopposed\'7d Moses, so also these do stand against\'7boppose\'7d the truth, men\'7bpeople\'7d corrupted in mind, disapproved\'7brejected\'7d concerning the faith;

¹⁵ of whom also do you beware, for greatly has he stood against our words;
