³⁹ but I -- I say to you, not to resist the evil, but whoever shall slap you on your right cheek, turn to him also the other;

² and the chief priest Ananias commanded those standing by him to smite him on the mouth, ³ then Paul said unto him, 'God is about to smite you, you whitewashed wall, and you -- you do sit judging me according to the law, and, violating law, do order me to be smitten!' ⁴ And those who stood by said, 'The chief priest of God do you revile?' ⁵ and Paul said, 'I did not know, brethren, that he is chief priest: for it has been written, Of the ruler of your people you shall not speak evil;'
