¹² and the law is not by faith, but -- 'The man who did them shall live in them.'

¹⁷ And he said to him, 'Why me do you call good? No one is good except One -- God; but if you do will to enter into the life, keep the commands.'

²⁵ And lo, a certain lawyer stood up, trying him, and saying, 'Teacher, what having done, life age-during shall I inherit?' ²⁶ And he said unto him, 'In the law what has been written? how do you read?' ²⁷ And he answering said, 'You shall love the Lord your God out of all your heart, and out of all your soul, and out of all your strength, and out of all your understanding, and your neighbour as yourself.' ²⁸ And he said to him, 'Rightly you did answer; this do, and you shall live.'

⁴ and to him who is working, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt; ⁵ and to him who is not working, and is believing upon Him who is declaring righteous the impious, his faith is reckoned -- to righteousness:

¹⁴ for if they who are of law are heirs, the faith has been made void, and the promise has been made useless;

¹⁶ Because of this it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, for the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that which is of the law only, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham,

³⁰ What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that is of faith, ³¹ and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive; ³² therefore? because -- not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,

⁵ for Moses does describe the righteousness that is of the law, that, 'The man who did them shall live in them,' ⁶ and the righteousness of faith does thus speak: 'You may not say in thine heart, Who shall go up to the heaven,' that is, Christ to bring down?

⁶ and if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becomes no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work.
